So do I. My flag has a Union Jack in the upper left-hand corner and the letters “HBC” in the lower right. It’s the original flag of much of western Canada, back when it was known as Rupert’s Land.
I can’t wait to see it flying from every flag pole.
Nice to hear someone else has an HBC flag. The history of HBC is the history of Canada.
The HBC flag flies at the trap shack.
When I placed my order, I mentioned to the clerk on the other end of the line that it was what was original flag of much of this part of the country. She, being from an eastern region, apparently didn’t know what I meant by Rupert’s Land.
She sounded young enough to be my granddaughter and would have been, no doubt, a product of our present educational system. When I was a youngster some 50 years ago, I learned all about how Rupert’s Land was established and that the Hudson’s Bay Company was the company that controlled it. I guess the kiddies don’t have to learn that any more and, thanks to Prinz Dummkopf and his SJW ilk, that’ll remain that way.

When I was in school, history was a very important subject and we were taught all about Rupert’s Land. I rarely missed school for fear of missing out and if I did a classmate brought or phoned with the details of homework. We had hours and hours of it.
Yesterday, out and about, I overheard two teenagers talking about school. One said,”I think I aced my exam today and I think I got at least half right.” WHAT? If we did that when we were teens, we would’ve been torn to shreds and cast to the lions for food! That wouldn’t have been good enough. Sir George was a most unusual man. I’ve forgotten how many trips he made across Canada by canoe. He was a Company man who never lost sight of the companies objectives and his mission to carry them out.
I’ve been fortunate to spend some time in the HBC archives on Vaughn St in Winnipeg doing research. Holding the personal journals of a Bay man in your hand is a humbling experience. Written in their own hand (hundreds of years ago) with a quill pen and ink out on the frozen prairie at days end…. kids should run to this place of history.
Simon Fraser is another interesting man, who was tasked by the Northwest Fur Company to expand the trade west of the Rockies. The Norwesters were the ones who took the trade to the natives, while the Hudson’s Bay crowd sat in their forts and waited for the Indians to come to them. (Years ago, while researching the trade, I came across an old Hudson’s Bay Company history which justified having the Indians travel many miles – and many months – to do the trading as, if memory serves, it aided in conservation.)
Anyway, Simon headed into the interior of what is now central British Columbia to set up trading posts and try to discover a route to the Pacific. He is reputed – though it’s hard to find cited sources – to have had a “wife” in every village along the way. I do remember a visit to BC by Princess Margaret where she was given a bouquet by a “Fraser” girl up Prince George way, though Lord Lovatt was on record as denying he had progeny. Lord Lovatt was definitely wrong; in later days, Simon married and established his official family in Ontario. But I still wonder how many “Frasers” live along his old route.

P.S. Here’s a tid bit of history that is totally irrelevant but rather quaint. When Wolfe was at the ready to attack Quebec and claim it for England he sent notes to various subordinates stationed at various places along the Saint Lawrence River in an effort to consolidate his spy ring and ultimately make the decisions that he had to, like when to attack the enemy.
One day when I was at the Calgary Library not too long ago, I came across a copy of one of his missives. He had the most beautiful cursive handwriting that I have ever seen. It is a lost art today, it was swirly and curly. A love letter from him would’ve been rather amusing, and his style did not fit the serious topic at hand. I was drawn to it, distracted by it, and captured by it, as I imagined the day that it was written. It was on the day of the attack on Quebec. Little did he know that his death was near, perhaps this was his last note. I felt privileged to have seen this and can still see it in my mind’s eye.

I’m watching The Trial of Billy Jack on TCM right now. Ouch! What 1984 didn’t do to warp SJW minds, this flick probably did.
No wonder it was regarded as one of the 50 worst movies of all time.
lol !!!
I recollect a reviewer referring to the, what was it, ‘dude ranch’ with all the bells and whistles and who the fcuk (not their exact words) paid for all that radio and sound eqpt.
etc etc.
I think that was the end of ‘billy jack’s’ career.
As I mentioned earlier, it made it into the book The 50 Worst Films of All Time by Harry Medved with Randy Dreyfuss.
The Trial of Billy Jack is in distinguished) (?) company as the book also lists such clunkers as Airport 1975, The Ambushers (the worst of the Dean Martin Matt Helm flicks), Lost Horizon (the one made in the early 1970s, not the one starring Ronald Colman), and The Conqueror in which John Wayne plays Genghis Khan and, yes, it has to be seen to be believed!
I can attest to this. Two men I worked with both could be in that story.
One was Kurdish, married his 1st cousin and have 5 kids. Weird family dynamics.
The second Pakistani Muslim had just married off his daughter to his brother’s son. They had to travel back to the homeland as they could not get married here in Canada. They are pumping out the kids.
When are the Western Governments going to say that if marriages do not conform to Canadian (western) laws, their health care costs. because of genetic disorders, shall be borne entirely by the family? Public health dollars will not be used.
The inbreeding is in part caused by people stuck in their sparsely populated villages. As they move into urban areas, the gene pool gets deeper. Urbanization is solving a lot of problems.
Whose a$$ did you pull that out of?
Did you even bother reading the article? England not urbanized? Germany?
Switched over to cnn last night it is usually good for a laugh,Lemon was on I have never seen a more arrogant, narrow minded, pompous, left wing weasel in my life.

Interesting article on the US involvement in Syria. From the article…
One of the SDF’s ISIS detainees is Adrien Guihal, who served three years in prison in his native France for plotting with others to attack the police and a subway station. Back in France he was also a preacher. The SDF consider Guihal a dangerous terrorist. Guihal denies it and says he only worked for ISIS as a translator. A member of the SDF was present for our interview.
Holly Williams: Do you want to go back to France?
Adrien Guihal (Translation): Yes
Holly Williams: And does France want you back?
Adrien Guihal (Translation): No, I don’t think so. France’s position is they don’t take back citizens who were in the Islamic State.
Holly Williams: So what does that mean? Does that mean you could be here for several years, perhaps the rest of your life?
Adrien Guihal (Translation): It’s not in my hands.
Adrien Guihal has not yet officially been charged with a crime. He and other foreign ISIS prisoners from some 40 different countries are, for the time being, in legal purgatory.
Sen. Lindsey Graham: So you’ve got 600-plus foreign fighters, not Syrians, and the Europeans don’t wanna deal with this.
France doesn’t want ISIS fighters back and Europeans don’t want to deal with the hundreds of ISIS “detainees”. Canada on the other hand…
Canada on the other hand “braces” for the return of the ISIS fighters.
Unlike the United Kingdom, which has revoked the citizenship of ISIS fighters so they cannot return, Canadians who go abroad to commit terrorism have a “right to return,” according to a Briefing Note prepared for Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale.
60 fighters have already returned and another 190 are still fighting (er, vacationing overseas).
Ours is the correct approach-so long as they are arrested upon returning. The Euros and Brits are true to form devaluing their own citizenship.
Spoken like the truly naive idiot you are.
The correct approach when dealing with ISIS fighters is a ditch, a bullet to the back of the head, and a shovel full of quicklime. That’s a better fate than ISIS meted out to most of their captives, unless you prefer to treat them as they treated others, drowning, beheading, disembowling, burning alive, flaying alive, hurling off buildings.
They all viewed the same videos as I, and went willingly to do the same, hoping perhaps to be rewarded with a young slavegirl or two.
ISIS and their supporters are beyond contempt and, like you, deserving only of ridicule.
It really worries me to see what this country has become we have terrorists returning to Canada,we have a pm and a justice minister who not only welcomes them but also can’t figure out a crime to charge them with.Perhaps treason? Why in the name of God arnt the opposition as well as all the premiers screaming blue murder over this fiasco.Ralph and Justin need mental help.
So we have 4 times removed the citizenship of a Ukrainian who at 17 was drafted by the SS to serve as an interpreter and was involved in no military action. The Supreme Court has restored his citizenship 3 times and they are trying it again.
Meanwhile the most despicable war criminals since the Mongols are welcomed back.
Well that’s Juthin’s way of trolling the muslim community for votes.
As the Western Canadian energy industry implodes who really cares? Certainly not our federal government who were the designers of this collapse. This is a two faced group who are squeezing the flow of capital from the industry and thusly killing it off.
What disturbs me more is how disconnected people in the West are. The acceptance level of the status quo is numbing. Here in BC the voting for proportional representation is almost complete and it will pass. Very little debate and most people are voting with no idea of the ramifications. The NDP have prohibited spending by ‘special’ interest groups by limiting spending to $1000 with more than onerous reporting to Elections BC. IMHO we will get the government we deserve not realizing they will be almost impossible to get rid of.
I have one fiend already moved to Australia and I am looking as well.
Canada is well on its way to Venezula!
I’ve had my dealings with the B. C. provincial government during the process of settling my father’s estate. I’ve dealt with governments led by 2 different premiers (first Clark and, now, Horgan) and each got a lot of money from what was to be my inheritance.
I’m looking forward to the day when I’m finally done, the house and lot are sold, and I can wipe the dirt of B. C. from the sole of my boots once and for all. There’s nothing left for me there and B. C., quite frankly, isn’t worth living in any more.
I’ve been in the CA hills where the houses are built adjacent to the canyon walls. The buck brush and shintangle that grows in those canyons is impenetrable.
It’s a tinder box of explosive fire material that year after year accumulates until a lightning strike or human carelessness ignites it. Fighting a wind fueled fire in those places is inviting certain death.
That landscape used to burn regularly but now we build there and wonder why these things happen?
I’m sympathetic with those who lost everything including loss of life but what other result would you expect given the conditions?
PM Theresa May may be in trouble with her Brexit deal. Palace coup in the offing?
The Broward Country vote counting fiasco sounds like something the liberals would pull in Canada. They should appoint the brave sheriff and his flock of hens to count the votes down there, shouldn’t be to dangerous for them.
Alright all you SDA dopers …
My biPolar schizophrenic 34yo son JUST got tossed into the mental hospital for the 4th time in his life. Why? Because he stopped taking his prescribed bipolar and schizophrenic drugs and restarted smoking Dope again – instead. And who facilitated this change? Our local (Oakland, CA) marijuana dispensary. Not just by SELLING the Dope, but by convincing my son that “western medicines” for bipolar were poison, and that the “natural” drug – marijuana was all he needed. They convinced him that his Doctors (psychiatrists) were killing him. He told us all of this as we begged him to take his medication, and to STOP smoking Dope. The ‘true-believer’ dopers are very dangerous people. And they’ve just utterly destroyed a life. Legitimizing this dangerous drug will prove to be one of the WORST catalysts that brought down Western civilization.
Thus ends 7-years of my son holding a job, and being a functional (albeit marginally functional) citizen. He is now a burden on the State. My son has been living with his mom and I, and now he cannot ever live with us again after his latest round of violent behaviour (it’s a myth that dope makes everyone … mellow). I could show you his Fackebook Page … the one dedicated to #Hitlerwasright and the “reversed polarity of the planet”. So bizarre … that his Fackebook account was shut down.
And if you’ve never seen one of these facilities (mental hospitals) … they’re grim. Really fucking grim! (Sorry, but I am literally shaking with anguish as I write this). The hospital will keep him overdosed on sedatives (and worse) to manage his behavior … he will be zombified when released, and will only be brought back to life if he gets a competent, caring psychiatrist. Which is unlikely in the Medical/Obamakkare system.
– Thanks dopers!
– Thanks legalized marijuana (he gleefully told us that we couldn’t “legally” stop him from smoking it”).
– Thanks “Medical” marijuana dispensaries. And the “true-believer” pushers staffing the dispensaries.
– Thanks storefront “Doctors” who issued my seriously mentally ill son a “prescription” for DOPE without reviewing a single page of his 1,000+ page medical history.
– Thanks leftists for pushing this oh so “progressive” agenda
I am a tough son of a bitch who survived and thrived despite a shitty, fucking childhood … but I am just SHATTERED right now. Watching the slow speed train wreck of my child accelerated by the dope pushers until he crashed and burned has BEAT me! I have no words, except FUCK!! Fuckers!!
Your welcome. Feel free to idiotically blame me and a plant for any of your unfortunate life events, and for somehow causing the obvious consequences of not taking BP medicine.
Kenji,
One of our children has a poorly wired brain and has been in and out of the hospital at least 4 times between the ages 18 and 25. He does not use drugs. His issues are triggered by a drop in food intake, loss of weight followed by psychosis. We have to bring him to the Emergency ward of a medical hospital where he is first treated as a medical issue, then several hours or a day later as a mental health issue. The conversations with the medical and mental health staff are always the same. There is no room for mental health patients, nowhere for them to go. At least 50% are regular drug users with many smoking pot as they coast between serious drug uses. Medical research has shown men aged 18 to 25 have a greater chance of developing mental health issues if they are using drugs, including marijuana.
My opinion on pot is that the legalization here in Canada was triggered by our current Prime Minister, his family’s use of the drug and his brother’s subsequent conviction. He is ignoring the perils of pot and does not realize that today’s pot is not what his mother was smoking back in the 1960s. I’ve also noticed the media’s near total lack of criticism of pot and its health issues. Most of the articles relate to the business opportunities or lack of supply. No doubt as legal pot leads to more mental health issues among our youth there will be media coverage of the health issues but without a link to the legalization of marijuana. The blame will be placed on conservative government’s lack of investment in mental health centers.
Hang in there sir.Dont forget to take of yourself.
*
today’s grow-op dope bears no relationship to the sh*tty
ditchweed we puffed in highschool… nevertheless…
— OTTAWA — Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau declined to make
a connection between his marijuana policy and his mother’s
relationship with the drug, heavy use of which she has said
contributed to her own experiences with mental illness.
“Every time I was hospitalized it was preceded by heavy use of marijuana.”
Which explains why Jnr. loves it so much… Nutty Mummy exposed him to it in-utero.
If only she had gone in to get her tubes tied…
If you don’t like it, don’t use it. It’s really that simple. We won.
Your victory is as hollow as your soul. My image of you is as a NPC. Just a placeholder nothing more. And legalized weed is going to swell your ranks. Lots of expressionless, brainless, NPC’s … self-medicated.
Thanks to my friends here who expressed sympathy for my son. It is a great sadness in my heart, to have him going through this again. I won’t bother reprinting the articles again, but medical research has well established the danger of dope on the adolescent brain. And yes, Neo, the chocolate box of designer dope is NOT my son’s grandmother’s dope. Sheesh, there aren’t even any “twigs and seeds” in the bottom of your “lid” anymore.
I have 3 kids, 2 of them are the most … literally … perfect, dream children you could ever imagine. Their adult lives are starting out sensationally. And my one son has serious mental health problems. 2 of my kids never smoked dope, 1 did … you do the math.
My sympathy on that tragedy too Kenji.
Years ago I had a friend who bummed out every time he smoked dope with us,friend of mines brother has spent last 40 years in institutional care ,best guess his family has is teenage dope smoking triggered something.
As he was smart, outgoing and alive until the experimenting.
I notice the resident troll has all the empathy of a typewriter, must be a bot cause it is “always about me”, no matter what the topic .
As well as the damage to developing minds, the new “freedoms of legalized dope ” here in Canada have the most interesting bunch of crimes and summary penalties tacked on.
I suspect the stoners are really going to enjoy Mary Wanna Court, with the same presumption of guilt as Traffic Court.
Saw one today,14 years for growing too much grass in your own home..Just remember do not steal your government hates competition.
As for the born agains on the medical benefits of grass..Fools names and fools faces are always found in public places.
These “experts” were probably very persuasive to your son as they have the zeal and enthusiasm of their new faith.
As for the medical doctors signing off..money is probably their motive as ever.
Just possibly a silver lining of the current craze..if enough young people are crippled by the premature altering of their brain chemistry, maybe a reset will be discovered.
As one of the drawbacks of the criminalization was to shut down all research into medical uses of THC and the associated canniboids.
Otherwise behold the Lotus Eaters as they will walk amongst us again.
Kenji, not sure what to say except my sympathy for the plight your family is in. My wife has seen young people in a hospital ward that had their brains fried by this wonderful new dope thing.
Kanji, perhaps there is some light left in that tunnel of despair. There is a new drug called Nuplizid (pimavanserin) made by Acadia Pharmasuitical, that is currently used for the treatment of psychosis associated with Parkinson’s desease. The drug is currently in testing mode with the FDA for the purpose of treating delusional psychosis in bi-polar and schizophrenic patients with encouraging results to date. The difference between this drug and the existing staples widely used currently, is that there are virtually no side effects. In other words, use of the new drug doesn’t simply turn the patient into a zombie, which often results in the patient choosing to discontinue the use of medication. Once FDA approval is granted, this new drug will be a godsend for the thousands of people who suffer from psychosis (and their families). Ask your son’s doctor to follow this drug as an FDA approval is expected some time in 2019.
Best of luck.
Thank you Syd. I have recorded the drug name and will discuss with his psychiatrist. I cannot blame my son for not wanting to be over medicated where the side effects overwhelm the positive results … but it is a very, very, slippery slope in the case of these psychotropic drugs. Too little and the descent back into psychosis is rapid and irreversible short of a long hospital stay to restore balance of brain chemistry.
Sad to learn the news about your son, Kenji. Hope he gets better soon, as well as yourself, your spouse, and rest of the family.
John Carpay shouldn’t apologize.

You won’t find this anywhere but here!

Don’t you know that all cultures are equal?
apparently the sultan of brunei’s fambly tree resembles what in the electric trade (and elsewhere) is known as a ‘rat’s nest’:

The inbreeding is in part caused by people stuck in their sparsely populated villages. As they move into urban areas, the gene pool gets deeper. Urbanization is solving a lot of problems.
Whose a$$ did you pull that out of?
Did you even bother reading the article? England not urbanized? Germany?
Switched over to cnn last night it is usually good for a laugh,Lemon was on I have never seen a more arrogant, narrow minded, pompous, left wing weasel in my life.
It’s in the name.
Canada on the other hand…
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-remains-to-be-done-in-the-final-phase-of-america-war-on-isis-60-minutes/
Canada on the other hand “braces” for the return of the ISIS fighters.
Unlike the United Kingdom, which has revoked the citizenship of ISIS fighters so they cannot return, Canadians who go abroad to commit terrorism have a “right to return,” according to a Briefing Note prepared for Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale.
https://globalnews.ca/news/4205480/canadas-plan-freturn-isis-fighters/
This seems to support Trump’s attacking California for their disastrous fire control which has led to these explosive fires.
https://gellerreport.com/2018/11/california-forstfire.html/
That was a very cool set of wheels lost to the fire:
https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/priceless-one-of-one-hot-rod-destroyed-in-california-fire
And speaking of those fires, in California and indeed Oregon and Washington, the powers that be, our guardians of the planet, have decided that it is better to see people die in a fire than to allow easy access for a dangerous CO2 producing automobile.
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2018/11/15/2015-paradise-downtown-street-project-reducing-4-lanes-to-2-may-have-created-dangerous-evacuation-bottleneck-during-campfire/
I’m sympathetic with those who lost everything including loss of life but what other result would you expect given the conditions?

another powerful political opinion… this time on the

Maybe she should follow Gwen Jacob’s example:

Fuckers!!
So sorry to hear that grim news Kenji; mental illness is a cursed disease.
“Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s safe”
https://calgaryherald.com/cannabis/cannabis-news/canadian-medical-association-president-calls-pot-legalization-uncharted-territory
Hang in there sir.Dont forget to take of yourself.

today’s grow-op dope bears no relationship to the sh*tty
ditchweed we puffed in highschool… nevertheless…
— OTTAWA — Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau declined to make
a connection between his marijuana policy and his mother’s
relationship with the drug, heavy use of which she has said
contributed to her own experiences with mental illness.
“Marijuana can trigger psychosis,” she said. “Every time I
was hospitalized it was preceded by heavy use of marijuana.”
but, never mind… we’ll sell it to teenagers.
