Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hmmmm…West Point Grey…West Point Grey. That certainly rings a bell but for the life of me I can’t remember where I’ve heard it before.
While I was a grad student at UBC, I lived just off campus in the Endowment Lands in Point Grey. It’s a veeeeerrryy snooty neighbourhood. I was in constant danger of being run over by Jags and Rolls Royces.
Many 40 year-old homes in the suburbs are now priced at $2 million plus…
100 thousand a year increase in the area I live in, in eastern Ontario. Who the hell is buying this shit and who is carrying the mortgages????
Across the street from me a house sold for 800k. It is not an 800k house. It is brand new. They are built with reduced concrete foundations, chip board and tyvek, plastic siding, and postage size lawns. We really are stupid.
It’s not like you have a choice. If you need somewhere to live that’s what it costs.
VOWG
800K is peanuts around here, hell they pay1-3 million and burn the sucker down, so they can rebuild a castle on the lot. Many fires around here because the county refuses to issue demolition permits and then building permits. On a gravel road near here 20 acre lot listed for 1.7 million, no house on it.
3 bedroom houses are renting for $4000 in the suburbs of Victoria. Money is worth nothing.
hahahahahaha, sooner or later the freaking bubble will burst. I managed to reduce my cost of living by at least a thousand dollars a month, maybe more. How long that will last with the level of insanity in this country is anyone’s guess. There really is no cure for what ails the people of Canada.
I remember people saying “the bubble will burst in the 1980s” when interest rates were over 10%. The market corrected then doubled, then doubled again. Since 2004 when I bought my place near Rockwood prices have quadrupled. Insanity not only lasts forever, it grows year over year.
Bottom line is that Interest rates have gone in 1 Direction since the Early ’80’s….so, Cheap money fuelled the housing industry for Decades….Up until a few weeks ago if memory served me correct, rates as low as 0.90% were avail. So with your average 3 bedroom home with attached dbl garage Price going for at Bare minimum here in
Calgary at ~ $550,000.
Whats gonna happen if they ACTUALLY raised rates to say 2.5%.or higher to counter inflation..?? One would suspect that would cause a Massive crash in home pricing….MAYBE...
But then, it isn’t Caucasion Canadians doing the buying now is it…?? (unless they are selling their legacy homes from the 70’s/80’s in the cities for a cpl mil+ and moving to the Far burbs.)
Wife works for the largest home builder in Calgary – and she does all the Welcoming pkgs / Pre occupancy reports etc. etc for new home buyers….95+% of whom have names she cant even pronounce….
Those are TRUDEAU’s “new” Canadians..
Hunker down for the inevitable CRASH is the right thing to do.
Did they post the for sale ad in one of the Shanghai papers , or one of the Mexican drug cartel newspapers or a Saudi paper , as other than a Trudeau , ex-Chinese communist party member etc. who has that kind of cash ?
BTW : was watching a discussion this morning where the current thinking is that a 2% interest rate would tank the US economy … and without mention the Canadian economy and they were recalling 20% rates in the 1980’s.
… shades of the 1930’s Wiemar Republic inflation
I recently shredded some of my older financial papers. Among them were statements for my bank line of credit from around 20 years ago. I was reminded that I paid well over 12% interest on the outstanding balances back then.
Brian
indians around here pay several million in cash all the time.
It would be equitable for the residents to have the city expropriate that land and build a 30 story building to accommodate 3rd world refugees while the neighborhood adapts to diversity. They could flaunt their virtue.
All I have to offer are these worthless Rubles.
Huh … seems you need lots of rubles to heat your home in Europe … very valuable when trading for energy
We know you lost your marbles a long time ago.
For me, I normally see expensive real estate and think ‘wouldn’t it be nice to be able to live there’ but the two most expensive places in Canada, Vancouver and Toronto, I find unattractive and drab. As an added disincentive both cities are full of liberals as well as far too overpriced for me. As far as the $81M acreage in Vancouver I hope the owner finds someone stupid enough to pay that.
5 acres? You could fit a needle exchange center, a safe injection site, and a huge hotel for the homeless there, and pay for it with municipal taxes paid by the libtards that live there. They could call it “Seagull Park” instead of Pigeon Park.
The high prices mean you can launder money that much quicker
