JD – we did NOT protect the most vulnerable – those in LTC facilities. The death rate in those was atrocious. But, to be fair, every year in the past there have been lockdowns in LTC facilities because of various viruses, and there have been occasions when said viruses caused a lot of deaths in the facilities. We have to reimagine our LTC facilities to be more protective of the residents while allowing them the necessary social contact with family and friends, and that’s going to be difficult.
Can tell you right now that the lockdowns and the accompanying apocalyptic messages about “we are all doomed unless” have caused more havoc than the Wuhan flu has. Suicides and overdose deaths have skyrocketed, many small businesses (and their owners’ futures) have been killed, and mental health problems – including depression – are way up. The cure has proved to be worse than the disease.
BTW, should you think about referring to a certain church just outside Edmonton, my information is that there have been two cases of the Wuhan flu traced to that church; that was back last summer and the church quite properly reported them to AHC.

Had a safety meeting at work today. One of the assistants brought up the increased lockdowns and was gushing over how great it was that we were being kept safe. I noted that the lockdown’s effect on the world economy threw 100 million people back into abject poverty, shortening their lives by at least 20 years, and that if the average life expectency in those countries were 100 (it isn’t) then the lockdowns have had the same effect as killing 20 million people and that that’s between 5 and 10 times as many as the dreaded disease has.
There was a moment of silence, then the subject got changed. I like my job, so I shut up. It’s sad to say that I think it’s come to that, I almost didn’t say anything in the first place because the narrative is so important to so many. The only item that makes sense is to stop screening incoming passengers. At this point, what difference does it make? The acknowledged variants are all here…if more are discovered, they’ll already be here (or soon will be), since travelling is still allowed sorta…each variant will need to run its natural course, and will with or without human intervention…
