Neil MacDonald is at it again.
In an [Honest Reporting Canada] complaint sent this morning to Marissa Nelson, Managing Director of CBC.ca, we asked if CBC can prove that the Federal Government has “threatened” hate crimes charges against boycott Israel advocates? Can the CBC even site one such example? The article itself does not contain anything to substantiate this charge except conjecture and Mr. Macdonald’s deductive reasoning, along with his forming conclusions based on some statements made by senior officials like Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney and his spokespersons.
In fact, Mr. Macdonald only says that “The Harper government is signalling its intention to use hate crime laws against Canadian advocacy groups that encourage boycotts of Israel.” This may or may not be the case, but there’s a marked difference between signalling intentions and claiming outright that the government has already “threatened” those who boycott Israel.
I read this story earlier on Yahoo, presented as fact. Of course, Yahoo’s main feed is the CBC, which explains everything. I looked for it again just now, and Shazaaam, it isn’t there!
The CBC really is a piece of sh!t.
Never let the facts get in the way of a good hit piece, or, if it saves just one CBC job then itis worth it.

Agreed Chris. In the age of instant news and social media the cbc is finding itself irrelevant. Keeping clowns like McDonald around and letting them spew crap will catch up to them. The cbc audience is aging and as the the old guard at the corpse slips over the wall their influence will be negligible. Can’t wait until slaphead mansbrige hangs ’em up.

McDonald seems to be a bit fact short but the Conservatives need to pay attention the the practice of Free Speech. The vile people at BDS have or should have the unfettered right to be just as anti-Semitic as their warped little agenda demands. It is not the proper role of government to control or punish Free Speech.
Those of us who support Israel can do everything from organising “Buy Israel” campaigns to drawing Mo cartoons. What we cannot and should not do is engage government to prohibit speech. Because the Conservatives are not going to be in power forever and the wide boys of the Liberal and New Democratic parties need to face a wall of principle support for Free Speech when their hands are on the levers of power.

The CBC must have a dedicated staff that looks for any nugget they can clamp down on that will slag Harper. If they can’t find one they just make something up. The actual facts may be closer to what was reported by WFB (below). If the US gov was inadvertently (or perhaps deliberately) funding anti-Israel groups , it is quite feasible that some groups like Amnesty etc. were milking the Canadian taxpayers as well.
