Y2Kyoto: Elevating Propaganda To Its Rightful Place

Daily Caller;

Researchers with the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) recently admitted to experienced zoologist and polar bear specialist Susan Crockford that the estimate given for the total number of polar bars in the Arctic was “simply a qualified guess given to satisfy public demand.”
Crockford has been critical of official polar bear population estimates because they fail to include five large subpopulations of polar bears. Due to the uncertainty of the populations in these areas, PBSG did not include them in their official estimate — but the polar bear group did include other subpopulation estimates.
PBSG has for years said that global polar bear populations were between 20,000 and 25,000, but these estimates are likely much lower than how many polar bears are actually living in the world.
“Based on previous PBSG estimates and other research reports, it appears there are probably at least another 6,000 or so bears living in these regions and perhaps as many as 9,000 (or more) that are not included in any PBSG ‘global population estimate,'” Crockford wrote on her blog.

Polar bear populations became the centerpiece of the effort to fight global warming due to claims that melting polar ice caps would cause the bears to become endangered in the near future. Years ago, some scientists predicted the Arctic would be virtually ice free by now.
Polar bears became the first species listed under the Endangered Species Act because they could potentially be harmed by global warming. But some recent studies have found that some polar bear subpopulations have actually flourished in recent years.

  1. Indeed.
Overheard on an ice flow where lots and lots of polar bears lay out in the sun….
“Boy, this weather sure is a lot easier to survive in, doncha think?”

  2. The researchers were forced to review their data when informed that polar bears could swim.

  3. We need to prohibit “Probability” from scientific analysis. The use of the words “May, Can, Could, Should” are all unscientific constructs of speculative probability.
Math idiots don’t understand that a “guess”, by an unqualified moron, does not have any probability.

  4. It occurs to me that the same people who demand that AGW is undeniable because of the asserted over 95% of scientists (regardless of discipline) think that it is are the same people who think fracking should be banned because it is unsafe even though an even higher number of true experts in the actual field and tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands ) of wells have been cracked with almost no environmental impact.

  5. Polar bears have been around for about 250 million years; longer than humans. During that time it’s been a lot colder and a lot hotter than now.

  6. AS Canadians we knew this ,but the media lied any way.
Even our own who knew better.
When it comes to phoney science we should be out raged at what they are doing to our survival by trying to force us back into the stone age. With bogus information to feed their green allies.
Not to mention governments always greedy for others money to fill their wallets.
    Not least these pseudo-science researchers.

  7. I think you meant 250 thousand years not 250 million years.
‘The scientists estimated that polar bears and the Alexander Archipelago brown bear population split somewhere around 150,000 years ago.’

  8. Classic climate science , proclaiming a trend from a single data point.
The GNWT Polar Bear scientists are activists, with no interest in bears or their welfare.
However they both demonstrate a fascination with the compliant media creatures, such as the presstitutes from CBC.
Justice would promote a new reality TV show, starring activists, lying bureaucrats and enviro-nasties, being filmed hugging a full grown polar bear.
Its a winner, they become one with nature and everyone else benefits.
