  1. That article reads like a piece out of the onion.
You can juxtapose this with the pitcures from East Germany in the earlier post. That one really hits home by showing: same people, same culture, two different ways to organize economies, socialist government run vs free market capitalism.
But Detroit compared to Germany, would be same same way to run the economy, free market captilism, but two different cultures.

  2. If only the government controlled birth control distribution and made it free a life could have been saved. Or alternately if birth control was outlawed a life could have been saved.
I feel conflicted which arm of the government i should be appealing to in order to avoid this unnecessary tragedy situation in the future….

  3. Good one, Kate. This is the same Detroit which has been ruled by progressives since forever. How’s that workin for yah?
I saw a quote in the report about there being no respect for life. Well duh. You can thank another progressive ideal for that one. Abortion.
What a cesspool that place must be.

  4. “Detroit Councilman Kwame Kenyatta…..”
“Kwame Kenyatta”? You’ve GOT to be kidding.
I’ve got a sawbuck that says they celebrate Kwanza and not Kwistmas at Kwame Kenyatta’s house.

  5. From the story….Detroit Councilman Kwame Kenyatta is drafting an ordinance that would require gas station owners to hire security guards to protect the public.
Hilarious….I thought that was what they paid the police to do,,,,serve and protect. Another Obama rent seeker protege, fanning the flames of class warfare for political gain. Keeping blacks on the plantation pays well.

  6. northernont,
The police won a case where a citizen took them to court for failure to protect. The police argued that it is NOT possible to protect the citizenry from harm.
They won and sadly admitted that they are nothing but expensive maid service after a crime.

  7. according to an employee,
the overnight clerk came out with a gun and fired a warning shot which struck the customer in his shoulder.
He later died at local hospital.

We need to ban handguns and condoms.

  8. Fenkell and Myers. You want to see what the whole country will look like in 20 years, go there. Forty years ago, a thriving, solidly middle class neighborhood of single family homes.
Now, a war zone to rival Fallujah.
Kill somebody over a condom? Heck, at Five and Fenkell, they’ll kill somebody over an empty bag of Cheetos.

  9. I think this is the moment that the “right to contraception” meme has officially jumped the shark.
It’s right in there with Global Warming causes marital discord.

  10. Heh. Here’s an alternative:

“Health Care Republican Style: Agents of Republican BP kill man for seeking medical help.”

  11. Eskimo- Kwanzaa is not their priority these days. I was watching Detroit News station this morning ( no worthwhile Canadian networks appear to broadcast news on the weekends). The big story? Today is their St. Patrick’s Day parade!!! I mean..I know there is the term “Black Irish” but I thought it referred to something else. Ya learn something new every day. Kwame O’Kenyatta indeed!

  12. Figures. They take the one guy in Detroit who actually uses birth control and whack him.

  13. Ever see the movie Robocop? It’s set in Detroit of the near-future (and considering the movie came out in 1987, that near-future is our right-now). It does a good job of portraying Detroit, though perhaps shows it through rose tinted glasses just a bit.
The price of condoms? I’ve known ever since I was 13 and thought it would make me cool to have one that you can get them for 75 cents out of the vending machines in gas station bathrooms.

  14. [The price of condoms? I’ve known ever since I was 13 and thought it would make me cool to have one that you can get them for 75 cents out of the vending machines in gas station bathrooms.]
Man, you know you’re getting old when you remember the gas stations selling them for a quarter.
Guess I’ve been out of the loop longer than I thought.

  15. Not quite true, The Grey Lady. Crime scenes are usually MORE of a mess after the pigs get through than they were before. But in general, “Law Enforcement” routinely excels at their primary job function of Praetorian Guard. They may not do crap to protect Mere Citizens, but nobody better try messing with their Masters or their Brothers in Blue…

  16. What a slut! Shoot him!
And I used to think the worst part about buying condoms was hiding them under a loaf of bread and hoping the cashier doesn’t do a price check or make a snide comment like, “Have a good evening.”
Time to join the Condoms Are Too Damned High! party.
    Robocop – if only.

  17. “Figures. They take the one guy in Detroit who actually uses birth control and whack him.”
    After-Birth control.

  18. Had the deceased waited only a little longer, he might have bummed a spare of One-Percenter law-school schnorrer Sandra Fluke, from her subsidized stash of Ivy-League level prophylactics.

  19. Not quite true, Jim. The ones who have NOT been disarmed do not tend to be victims…

  20. Good vs. Evil. Man vs. Nature. Detroiters vs. gas tstation owners.
“Ron Scott, with the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, said they are working on conflict resolution between gas station owners and Detroiters…”
    The eternal struggle.

  21. On a more serious note (if murder over a contraceptive device isn’t serious enough), I don’t understand how the left-wing can whine about keeping government out of Americans’ bedrooms and then when it suits their “free-sex/free-consequence” agenda the left doesn’t hesitate to invite government into the bedroom which then drags in taxpayers and insurance policy holders in order to subsidize the private sexual choices of women.
But now that we’ve been invited in under the guise of “healthcare”, it only seems fair the rest of us can comment all we want on what’s going on in those formerly private bedrooms. And I’ve yet to hear a cogent defense of the alleged social virtue of forcing struggling middle-class insurance policy holders to subsidize the birth control devices used by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton. At minimum, shouldn’t such sweeping (unconstitutional) mandates at least be means test? Listening to these contraceptive commisars bellyache about women not being able to afford $9/month Walmart birth control pills is a little over the top. But maybe if women didn’t have to fork over $4/gallon for Obama gas and weren’t some of the 14% of Americans who are unemployed and 19% who are underemployed in an economy thats yielding skyrocketing food prices and a real world 8% inflation rate under the Obama regime, maybe they could afford that $9 perscription, ya think?

  22. Detroit hasn’t got any money for police. The only function of government that more or less works is the fire department.
“But Detroit compared to Germany, would be same same way to run the economy, free market capitalism, but two different cultures.”
Not culture exactly. One has a high murder (and other crime) rate, one does not. Detroit is almost as bad as New Orleans before Katrina.

  23. No no no, you guys got it all wrong. This is about RESPECT. Or as they say in Deetois, respec’.
“What it comes down to, said Scott, is respect. “I’ve been in similar situations in some of these stores where I’ve been disrespected. And now we’re talking about young, specifically African-American men.” It gets worse from there. And you wonder why the store guy shot the customer? Not.
The title of my post was “What is it that keeps Detroit F-ed?”
    http://phantomsoapbox.blogspot.com/2012/03/what-is-it-that-keeps-detroit-f-ed.html

  24. will always remember the condom despensers in the Redwater bar. labeled “Mountie Rainhats”

  25. The city, State, and Feds wrote Detroit off long ago. They created a situation that forced a white migration to the suburbs by their social engineering and affirmative action programs.Suddenly there is no one left but the takers, the contributors have left and now the financial picture is in the tank because the people that remain have never paid taxes and do not intend to start paying them now.Detroit is doomed unless there is some Fed,State or other program to save it,things do not look good.!

  26. Tex Taylor notes:
Man, you know you’re getting old when you remember the gas stations selling them for a quarter.
Are you telling me the price has gone up to 50 cents? I’m outraged. Another way you know you’re getting old is not having had to use a condom because all the women you ran into were on oral contraceptives. Back in a simpler time when any unexpected microbial transfers could be cured with a shot of penicillin.
Expect Obozo to spin this into a death that would have been prevented by Obamacare if it wasn’t for the interference of the Catholic church.

  27. all conservatives have to do is define liberalism as a religion…
the libs’ belief in a higher power is just manifested in their own certainty that they are wiser than others, and thus, above them. god doesn’t decide, they do.
once one sees liberalism for a religion, the recent kerfluffle/irony of demanding religious groups paying for someone else’s ‘religiously’ held beliefs becomes obvious.
makr my words, maslow’s heirachy of needs is being refined to accomodate the pill.

  28. It gets better.
His friends take him to the hospital thinking they can get there faster. When they arrive there are problems (an altercation of some sort)with security. Twenty minutes later “Fat Mike” is admitted, dead.
    http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/latest_video/Customer-Killed-Over-Price-Of-Condoms-20120310-rs
Watch closely at 30 sec. and at 1 min. 40 sec.
Ah yes, a Magnum moment. Buying condoms you can’t afford to impress your friends.
    (They were clearly price labeled.)
Of all people, “Fat Mike” knew the sacred nature of Little Debbie snack cakes. He did a terrible thing; and for that he will never eat a Little Debbie or fill a Magnum ever again. In Detroit these are the finest things in life.
    R.I.P. “Fat Mike.”
