For those who haven’t been following the story (lance touched on it here), last week at a single-witness hearing conducted by Nancy Pelosi a law student at a Jesuit university testified that the costs of birth control for students such as herself are onerous – $3,000 over three-year stint, she averred – and should be included as a part of mandatory health coverage.
Her position is more than debatable on its own terms, particularly in light of information indicating that she decided to attend the Jesuit university “with the express purpose of battling (its insurance) policy”, but hey, why stick to the issue at hand when you can offend women on all sides of the political spectrum à la Rush Limbaugh:
“What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.”
Idiot. The Democrats have long enjoyed a hugely significant, double-digit advantage among female voters. Can you think of a better way to drive women who are potential Republican voters in the arms of the Democrats than by calling a young woman who disagrees with the conservative position a slut and a prostitute?
Rick Santorum can:
“I believe and I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created — in the sense of rape — but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.”

Republican’s (as in elected or wanting to be elected) falling for loaded questions are fools.
“Rush is an entertainer and he’s entitled to his views.”
And this is why we often lose
How dare he insult those who wear slutty prostitution as a badge of honour! Mandatory slutwalks for every able bodied man!
The real prostitutes are those whose moral code follows opinion polls.
Rush made a huge mistake with this one and it’s a shame he (once again) has brought disrepute to the conservative cause. With friends like Rush, you really don’t need enemies.
Now, if the progressives could feel the same way about Chris Matthews and the stupid remarks he makes, it would even itself out. But dems are given a pass.
gellen +1
Now it has come out in a couple of blogs that ms. Fluke is a 30 year old ‘former’ staffer of Nancy Pelosi, who decided to go to Georgetown law school because their health insurance did NOT cover the cost of contraceptives. Smoke and mirrors, everyone. . .
If the media is talking about this red herring, they aren’t talking about gas prices, or the size of the deficit, or any other myriad problems the Obama administration has caused.
Try this on for size:
“Can you think of a better way to drive men who are potential democratic voters in the arms of the Republicans than by giving a woman $1000/yr. of free birth control pills?”
American men should be asking Barry “Where the hell is my free Viagra?”
I stand shoulder to shoulder with Rush.
He’s right.
The Left would take a very Virtue and contrive to use it as a weapon to SHAME the right. They don’t really expect you to accept the concept of paying for a 30 y/o activist’s prophylactics, just so long as you’re ashamed to oppose it.
And I’m shocked that anyone here falls into such a trap.
But it doesn’t matter. The Proggies are nothing, if not patient. They have pulled you along this far, these last 40 years. Not too much farther now. . . just keep worrying about appearances.
Imagine you have an idiot relative. Let’s call him Uncle Bob. Important people are coming over for supper, your boss, let’s say, and you don’t want Uncle Bob around to embarass you. So you give Bob $20 and send him to the movies for the night.
In that vein, does anyone know how we could get Rush Limbaugh an ambassadorship in a small, out-of-the-way country?
As for Santorum, his dream of denying therapeutic abortion for rape victims is offensive to most people, male or female.
First she was 23, then she was 30… also this:
Cornell University awarded her a B. S. in Policy Analysis & Management, as well as Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies in 2003.
I am sure that must be a B.A. although BS sounds about right! Not a B.Sc. I hope because I don’t see any science in Policy Analysis or the Feminist Studies stuff.
Just a fighter for “Reproductive Justice”.
Silly me. Didn’t even know there was such a kind of justice.
“we could get Rush Limbaugh an ambassadorship in a small, out-of-the-way country?’
I’d take it easy with the “we” crap. yeah, better language could have been used, but so what? Limbaugh crosses the line, but i’d sooner have that than the mealy mouthed apologetic crap offered up by others.
He’s one of the few honestly conservative voices in the media and inspires millions, decidedly different from those who are a little too quick to grovel in front of alleged progressives.
If you have that kind of complex, deal with it, don’t grovel for other people who don’t agree.Perhaps you’d best stick with david frum.
He might have been better to call her promiscuous.
I think Rush Limbaugh was focused on a red herring issue – ie, the lifestyle choices of this woman. I don’t think he should apologize but he should make clear thathHis comments were focused on the lifestyle choices of this woman (and her cohorts. He objects to both their morality choices AND their insistence that the State should assist them in these actions.
I think that Santorum is equally missing the point – ie, the result of sex, which is, a child. This is also another issue.
The GOP seem to have missed the real issue in this case; after all, it was brought up in a session chaired by Pelosi. The real issue is about the STATE and its role in the lives of citizens.
After all, the claim by this woman and Pelosi, etc, is that IF a woman is sexually active, THEN, she might get pregnant, and THEN, require medical care. As such, the Democrat view is that the State is ‘obliged’ to provide medical care and thus, by regression, birth control.
But how intrusive should the State be in one’s private choices and activities? If we engage in, let’s say, hockey or cycling or skiing, etc – these are all risky activities that might lead to injury. Is the State required to fund our protective gear?
What about our food choices? What about our homes – is the State required to fund our heating costs because otherwise, we might become ill?
I think that should be a major question – the role of the State or collective, in one’s individual life activities.
A collective medical policy is, in my view, supporting RISK; that is, the members of the policy share their money to support not everyday and individual healthcare activities, but health problems that are not common and are thus, a risk among the collective. If you want your policy coverage to support more, then, you must pay for this extra cost.
But, the Obama-Pelosi medical statism is that you don’t all share, equally, in these costs. In some cases, ie, you are a student or low income, you contribute very little to the costs. But, you receive the same benefits! As we’ve seen in Canada, this can’t be sustained even in our limited health care coverage.
Ya, the way to win is to skulk and hide while liberals and democrats force their secular social engineering policies upon the people. That’s what lead social services to call the police and have a father strip searched and his home invaded because his 4 year old drew a picture of a gun.
To those of you who think we should be silent on issues, it is that silence that has allowed the left to fill that void you leave.
Rush’s shtick is to be a bombastic blowhard. Generally, he has good points but his tendency to go too far is not one of his better characteristics, IMO. Calling someone you disagree with a sl*t is not much different than calling them a racist – both are used to shut down any chance of discussion.
The problem for Republicans is that their zeal to do battle in the culture wars and loss of credibility in fiscal conservatism has resulted in a significant decline in registered Republicans.
“It’s hard to imagine a more favorable climate for an opposition party to gain voters than an election year with an unpopular White House incumbent under whose watch the economy has been and likely will continue to be awful. Yet a mere nine days before the beginning of 2012, a USA Today study found that Republican registration in the 28 states where party affiliation is recorded was down 800,000 since 2008, including 350,000 in eight swing states.Who’s gaining? Not the governing Democrats, who deservedly lost twice as much.”
http://reason.com/archives/2012/02/07/catching-up-with-independents
As far as I can see, it is a race to the bottom for both parties. Disillusioned voters are pretty much disgusted by Dems, Reps and their attack dogs. Maybe it would be better if both parties ended up like the Progressive Conservatives and the Liberal Party – a new start with fresh, modern ideas may restore some trust in the POTUS and Congress.
WTF,, the cost of a condom is less then a cup of coffee. If she is having that much sex, then she needs a shrink, not a IUD. I hate these manufactured outrages that the left dreams up.
does anyone know how we could get Rush Limbaugh an ambassadorship in a small, out-of-the-way country?
As for Santorum, his dream of denying therapeutic abortion for rape victims is offensive to most people, male or female.
This. There are far more enlightening and enlightened commenters on the right than Limbaugh, who needs to retire.
Get this EBD off your blog, Kate.
Statement from Rush.
That Fluke woman is worse than a slut, she is a ‘political slut’, using this idiotic issue to force people with higher morality that her and her democrat friends into paying for her birth control.
If this slut can afford to go to Georgetown university in the law faculty, she should be able to afford some birth control pills or at the very least date guys who can afford condoms.
This is pure disgusting leftist political filth and nothing more.
I doubt anyone is boinking that hose-bag anyway. She will waste a grand a year pretending. Hell give her a $9.95 vibrator and you will have improved her sex life by at least 90%.
Santorum is absolutely not ready for primetime. (Cr@p, it’s gonna be Romney, isn’t it?)
I’m gonna back Rush on this.
Its simple, what if instead of a woman, it was a guy saying he wanted his protection paid for, then ask what possible consequence is he trying to avoid.
I would like to be able to go around telling people I prefer the Republicans over the Democrats. The problem is, when I do, someone busts out a quote like the one from Rush or Santorum, and asks me to defend this kind of stupidity. Then there’s an energy-draining argument, and I’ve got stuff to do. Stop making my life hard, guys.
Rush illustrates the absurd with absurdity. He fires people up. Calls it as he sees it.
This child has a history. She is more or less a Democrat Operative designed to change the issue away from freedom of conscience and religion that Obamacare is seeking to take away.
Unless you listen to Rush, make no comments you cant back up. It will only cost you a few penny’s a day to sign up for a superior education on how to combat liberal stupidity!
He might have been better to call her promiscuous.
No, she wants to be paid to dispense her favours, she’s a whore.
Randy Sandy does seem to be a whore, but it’s not because of her sex life, whatever that may be.
I like Limbaugh but I do agree, he messed this one up.
I stand by Rush. Any woman that screws that many times in a day is lucky if she is only called a slut. If she wants to be paid for her screwing, she’s a whore.
Bottom line- and Rush clarified this yesterday.
He doesn’t care how frequently she screws but she’s not doing it on his dime.
Santorum is absolutely not ready for primetime. (Cr@p, it’s gonna be Romney, isn’t it?)
I hope it will be Ron Paul, Black Mamba. Ron Paul will restore the Constitution to Americans – if they are not afraid to be liberated from the tyranny of Big Gument. It would certainly help Canada if the Americans elected the only Conservative on the ticket, since Ron Paul is a free trader – our economy would boom.
We, the People of North America could still turn this Titanic around…if enough people have the courage to elect the Right Man.
LAS…let’s talk stats:
Of the 100,000 abortions in Canada, do you know how many are for the purpose of ‘getting rid of the products of conception’ after rape? Very minimal…the body doesn’t do conception in stress.
And if it is even 10…there are hundreds of couples wanting to adopt.
I’m with Rush…he usually says outloud what some of us are thinking. And he can. He’s media, not a politician. Bill Maher speaks the mind of the lib-Dems. If only he turned out to be the God’s gift to the Republicans.
Rush is the conservative voice that occasionally appeals to the Republicans.
I’m reminded of this story;
George Bernard Shaw once found himself at a dinner party, seated beside an attractive woman. “Madam,” he asked, “would you go to bed with me for a thousand pounds?” The woman blushed and rather indignantly shook her head.
“For ten thousand pounds?” he asked. “No. I would not.” “Then how about fifty thousand pounds?” he continued.
The colossal sum gave the woman pause, and after further reflection, she coyly replied: “Perhaps.” “And if I were to offer you five pounds?” Shaw asked.
“Mr. Shaw!” the woman exclaimed. “What do you take me for!” “We have already established what you are,” Shaw calmly replied. “Now we are merely haggling over the price.”
You know, back where I come from, we used to say something about girls like that…
Let’s date ’em.
Am I the only one that sees the prog pattern in this. First they create an issue out of a non-issue. Then they parade victims of the issue out on the stage. Then they pass laws that infringe and trample all over the rights of others to protect the victims.
Then it is discovered that the issue was indeed a non-issue. Then the supposed victims are found not to be victims at all. Then when the laws kick in we find that whole new bureaucracies laden with govt employees are created to enforce them. Then we are told in very small print that these new laws will cost the tax payers trillions more then first estimated.
This pattern of deceit has been repeated over and over and yet it blinds so many.
My guess as to why most conservatives are piling on Rush and Santorum is fear of losing votes for any pres. candidate in 2012.
The truth is that 25 years ago Ms. Fluke would have been called a slut, but even she would never have been willing to claim in public, to need a truckload of birth control.
As for therapeutic abortions for rape victims, I am reminded of, I believe it was an episode of “20/20” about 20 years ago. Barbara Walters was doing a segment on black poverty in Baltimore. At one point she is interviewing a 15 year old mother with her little daughter. The question is asked about the father. The answer: I was raped.
“Why didn’t you have an abortion? You know that was possible.”
Her answer: “I couldn’t do that to her. I couldn’t take away the bad thing done to me by taking away her life. That would still be wrong and now I have a beautiful little girl that I am responsible for.”
Abortion is still wrong in the eyes of many of us and at least Rick Santorum is willing to stand up for what he believes. He just needs to learn how to take better control of the interview so that the interviewer, even a chump like Piers Morgan gets a little on edge talking to him.
bluetech – “Of the 100,000 abortions in Canada, do you know how many are for the purpose of ‘getting rid of the products of conception’ after rape? Very minimal…the body doesn’t do conception in stress.”
I’m afraid it seems to be the other way around. This is one of many studies:
http://www.springerlink.com/content/wp5cnp43k6byxj4d/
That being said, I have no problem with Santorum holding to the doctrinal Catholic position on abortion. That’s what Catholics do. (Personally, I have never understood what logical, as opposed to emotional, argument could be made for opposing abortion in all cases except for rape. If you believe a fetus is a human being, and its right to life trumps the right of the mother to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, the method of conception seems irrelevent to me.) No, the problem with Santorum here is that he seems to have no notion of image-management, which is pretty damning for a politician. Everyone sort of thinks he’s a wannabe theocrat. If he’s not grown up enough to play down that angle then he needs to take his dolly and go home.
Definition of a prostitute. Someone paid money to have sex. This lady has sex so she needs money. Not much difference if you ask me!
Impregnation via rape is a horrific situation to say the least. Nonetheless if abortion is morally wrong because it involves the killing of an innocent human being then the way the pregnancy occurred makes no difference. I’m not necessarily saying we should deny abortion to rape victims, just that the argument is illogical.
Rush fell headlong into the trap laid by Obama. Obama opened this issue up for this very purpose. Dumb move.
Smell a set up. The women was recruited, and possibly paid, or promised favors to take the action she has. An attempt to buffer the Catholic Church contraception issue.
“Idiot. The Democrats have long enjoyed a hugely significant, double-digit advantage among female voters. Can you think of a better way to drive women who are potential Republican voters in the arms of the Democrats than by calling a young woman who disagrees with the conservative position a slut and a prostitute?”
David Letterman called Sarah Palin a slut. Bill Maher called her a c*** & when called on it, he grinned and called her a c*** again. Since they’re both big Democrat supporters, and no Democrat criticized them or demanded an apology, I’m sure liberal women will take this misogyny into account come election time and run to the Republicans.
No, really. I’m SURE they will.
The fact that we are even talking about this Sandra Fluke beeotch is the reason the DemocRats always win. They set the agenda, they shape the conversation, they report on it, they move on to the next set-up when its to their advantage.
So until such time as the Republicans stop playing straight man to the DemocRats and their media freak-show, the Republicans are going to keep getting shellacked. Like what’s happening now.
Something else the Dems have been very good at is getting their people into the mid-level political posts in state governments. As in, the people who run the elections in a lot of states are all DemocRats. Illinois, for example.
Until Republicans start taking that stuff in the machinery over as well, they are going to keep getting run over.
HOWEVER. This year, no matter what bullsh1t the Dems pull, they are friggin’ toast. Barry going to lose, the Senate and the house are going massively Republican, and there’s not a d@mn thing they can do to stop it.
The Tea Party is still out there, bigger and meaner than ever. Just because the Dem orchestrated media isn’t reporting on it doesn’t mean it ain’t happening.
here lemmi throw gas on the fire ,
women are allowed to vote? news to me! …LOL!!!
HA HA HA HA!!
what a joke topic. rush was trying to be funny, now every conservative has to answer for it. i was listening live and did indeed laugh and thought little of it
Doesn’t ANYBODY check anything before spouting off? The above “quote” was NOT even close to what Rush actually said. The Internet is a wonderful thing, except when when it transmits misinformation at the speed of light, and, everybody picks it up and runs with it anyway – in the wrong direction.
@Ellie in T.O. above. You make a valid point as many do here whether they support Rush or not. Here’s my suggestion.
While most of us generally pride ourselves on taking the moral high road and tend to not lower ourselves to the demeaning taunts of the left, maybe it’s time to change our tack. Every time we, or someone with more celebrity like Rush, says something that the delicate left would consider ‘disgusting’, just make sure we have something credible and provable in our pockets (or link library) that points to the latest crass garbage from a twit like Maher.
That way we can respond in kind and when lambasted, simply point to the even worse garbage spouted by a common media clown and say that at least we didn’t use the ‘c’ word (for example).
Being nice gets you a job in Calcutta and a Sainthood in a couple of hundred years. Sometimes we have to be less nice.
Rush was put in a position where he had to apologize. If he had chosen his words more carefully, he could have made his point and not demean himself in this way.
This is an election year.
And conservatives had better remember that because they haven’t got a hope in you know where with the field they’re running.
LAS said: “What? The TP is dead. Gone. Invested-no sorry SOLD itself wholly into the GOP primary process. For nothing.”
Have you been to the USA recently? I have. People are -p1ssed- down there. Even in California the only cars with Obama stickers are hippie-mobiles.
The media is doing everything they can to silence the Tea Party and marginalize its organizers. You don’t do that to a movement that’s already dead, you do it to something scary that’s coming to kick your @ss.
LAS is living breathing proof that some people can be fooled all the time.
Sorry EBD
Rush called it. Now move on.
Think AB would waste time on this?
I don’t think so. Battles there to be fought, don’t turn aside for a bitch slapping with a queer.
