There was nothing trollish about what I posted. I simply offered a contrarian view to your obvious bias so you removed it. You’re lying. What a surprise! Especially right after I sent you an e-mail admonishing you for releasing my email address. Good thing I saved all of the commentary myself, isn’t it Kate?
How sad. So much for free speech.

  2. Kate, I think you’re quite right to ban “arthur”, in fact I think I predicted it, but I was kind of hoping to see if he could produce a link to the SPC nurse’s rant against Iraq and Afghanistan, in which she also praises “Fahrenheit 911”. Not that I expected much though.
    I’m afraid the witty, thoughtful liberals are all on their own blogs right now, debating Jack’s surge, Paul’s meltdown, Buzz’s perfidy, and how the evil Harper is brainwashing the entire country.

  3. I had to ban someone once, myself, just once. They really hate that. They’re in denial that they did anything to bring the ban upon themselves. Think they have a “human right” or something to come onto people’s blogs and behave as they see fit. Typical leftists. Admittedly, I felt bad about banning the poor soul, but one must stick to one’s principles, else chaos will certainly ensue.
    Yep, leftists really make sure they remember to think before commenting…
    Leftists have a little box they’ve been effectively issued by the left. Inside it’s perceived to be comfortable. But they’re in denial of the fact that there’s a whole world out there beyond the confines of their box.
    They think inside the box as prescribed. Rarely do they dream of escape, if indeed they know it’s possible. Too painful to leave the box. Therefore, they remain as they are. Pity.
    Seems like recently quite a few folks have ventured outside the box and come to realize how terrible things have actually been under Liberal rule…
    I surely hope so…

  5. Meg Q, I think some of the more cerebrally adept of the Lie-beral persuasion are too busy putting their exit strategies into motion, flying south, but not just for the rest of the winter. And by south, I mean off of the continent. After all, I wouldn’t want these Lie-beral’s offending the sensibilities of any southern ladies.

    Don’t blame you. I’ve run into authordecco previously and he tends to make unsubstantiated comments. When challenged he (or she) becomes ‘abusive’ and beligerent.

  12. Some very interesting comments here that
    highlight two important facts as I see them:
    1). The left is now the reactionary
    estahblishment, devoid of any new thoughts;
    2). Having gained control of the thought outlets
    of the state (universities, TV, newpapers, radio,
    etc.), they are now losing that control to the
    internet; where, as far as I can see, it is the
    right that is the most cogent and pertinent.
    This really pisses off the left. Thus they
    want to sue, or ban, or use the CRTC, to control
    this anarchistic (or is it libertarian?) medium.
    It is the right which has the momentum today,
    and will maintain it for 20-30 years.
    Thankfully, just in time when the West faces an
    awful external enemy.

    Dippers live in a utopian fantasy world where only they are smart enough to redistribute other people’s hard earned wealth so as to end poverty, suffering and discrimination.

  14. If you want to get banned .. just go a left wing site and challenge anything that’s being lied about there.
    Their sites all suffer from premature ejectulation.
    There is never time to actually discuss an issue to a logical conclusion. If there was .. they might experience a cranial orgasm that would shatter their beliefs and make them feel a lot more grown up like a well earned orgasm always does.

  17. It is indeed unfortunate, Kate, that such measures need occasionally be invoked, but has anyone ever seen a popular private property that is open to the public operate without bouncers or equivalent security?
    Sure, everyone has their bad day, usually you can just call them a taxi and they’ll be fine tomorrow, but when one patron constantly pukes on the dance floor, it’s time tell them they’re not welcome any more.
    Bet you never thought, Kate, when you started up Small Dead Animals, that you would end up among other things being a virtual publican. Cheers!

    Your blog; your rules. A.D. has no more right to vent his bile on your bandwidth with impunity than he has to relieve himself on your lawn without getting a charge of #6 birdshot in the a**.
    Free speech is the right to express yourself without government interference, not the right to make a nuisance of yourself. A.D.’s “free speech” is the freedom of the spoiled preschooler, who demands the right to pick his nose, shout obscenities and throw tantrums in public without any worries about retaliation or control. He doesn’t want freedom of speech; he wants freedom from responsibility.
    Anyone who doesn’t like being banned, or who feels the need to spout off uncontrollably, can start they own blog. That is, if they think people will bother listening to their incoherent anting (could work – at least a few people listen to mine).
    Incidentally, this sort of thing reconfirms my decision not to allow comments at RTP. It might cost us a few hits, but we make up for it by not having to buy Mylanta in job lots.
    All the same, hats off to those of you who have gone the other way and allow these people airtime; you have the patience of saints.

    Your troll has the right to freedom of speech.
    As such, I invite him to design and post on his own blog any time he choses to do so.
    A troll’s right to speech doesn’t over-ride someone else’s right not to listen.
    I think trolls are amusing. But they should at least be polite.

    The imp knows that the keys to effective discourse in an open forum are dialectics, rhetoric, and wit. The imp knows that common grace, self deprication, and playfullness are valueable behaviours.
    The troll, though, the troll thinks that attacking is more effective than engaging. Thus, trolls are in general avoided by imps, for they tend to be less than useful.
    Trolls live under bridges and bother people.
    Imps build bridges while having fun too.

  27. On Mike Duffy Live tonight, the Puffster brought up the George Laliberte smear on Maurice Vellacott.
    John Duffy replied that the campaign office to which the call was traced is in a mall and therefore open to anyone … anyone could have made that call.
    I am not making this up.

  29. The following is a comment I originally made on Liberal and extremely devoted Paul Martin fan Jason Cherniak’s blog regarding his accepting blogger Stephen Taylor at his word that the “Blogging Tories” are not in any way an arm of the Conservative Party.
    The reason I’m posting it is to contrast strong yet reasoned respectful disagreement with that of “arthur”:
    “Jason, thank you for taking a principled stand on the matter. I think you’re right that this is a red herring. Free speech is good speech.”
    “I am not a blogger, but a new commentator. I also like to write, so for the first time ever, this election motivated me to write some letters to the editor, some of which were published, including in [at the time] yesterday’s National Post if you want to read my 3-paragraghs’ worth.”
    “And yes, this is the issue that highly motivated me. Those ads scared me (that a ‘Democratic leader’ would attack his own army during an election campaign I just thought was bizarre and I wondered how far he would go and had to conclude that there are no limits on his conscience whatsoever and few on his judgement – it also terrified my girlfriend, whom I love – she’s from another country and she feared military violence in Canada after watching that ad and was scared for me… and who can blame her given that the ads were designed to produce physical fear?) I feel that the leader you admire, Paul Martin, is badly out of touch with what matters.”
    “That’s one person’s opinion. Others may agree he showed awful judgement, but think his positives outweigh his negatives.     “The Liberal Party has had good leaders in the past. I’d be thrilled if they’d field one.”
    AFTERTHOUGHT: I respect arthur’s right to think what he thinks, feel what he feels, and say what he says. What may choose to to realize, however, is that if he’s particularly outrageous and offensive there will come a point where a private person will not want to listen to him anymore.
    He can get his own blog and attract his own audience who share his views and prefer his communication style.
    In the meantime, if he chooses to comment, he may want to try:
    1. common respect;
    2. presenting his own views passionately;
    3. and logically.

  30. Just heard the John Duffy comment as well about anyone being able to go in and use the phone.
    I have been in Axworthy’s campaign office. It is in a strip mall setting – used to be a credit union. When you walk in there is a table for secretary/reception about 20 feet inside the door. It’s fairly wide open so if someone was to sneak inside to use the phone everyone would see him/her doing it.
    There is no possible way the phone call could have been made the way the Liberal Talking Pimple claimed it was. More Liberal Crap.
    Sick of it.

    Just saw a report on TV where a Conservative candidate was accused of sexual assualt at a town hall meeting in a mall (firgive me for not knowing which riding, it’s happened so fast), and the call has been traced back to Liberal Party headquarters.

  33. Artie if you’re still reading…here are a few rules you might want to follow if you wish to dialogue with the rest of the outside world:
    1) Realize that almost all people (hello Mr. McLelland), regardless of political affiliation, wish to make their place of origin a better place in which to live
    2) Realize that name-calling, baseless aspersions to character, and general trolling are not conducive to an illuminating discussion on policy and long-term strategy
    3) Realize that not everyone thinks as you do and may be persuaded by reasoned arguments rather than the attacks outlined in point 2
    4) Realize that if you reject point 3 in favour of point 2, the person who hosts the blog that contains said remarks reserves the right to prevent others from being contaminated by your baseless attacks and assumptions
    Once you adopt these general rules of discussion, you will likely find that your point of view is much more welcome regardless of the prevailing POV of the company around you. You may even find yourself thrown out of fewer social gatherings and…wonder of wonders…find more people who are willing to thoughtfully engage you in discussion and what’s more…heaven forbid…you might even actually agree with what other people have to say. Give it a try sometime.

  36. O/T. Watching Mansbridge and the rest of Pravda trying to trip up Harper. Everything from lobbyists being on the CONSERVATIVE payroll to why there are two slogans, one in French for Quebec and the other in English. So far he is holding his own. Mansbridge is trying to ask him loaded questions, but Harper is cutting him off at the knees with intelligent answers vice fear mongering and smear. How refreshing to actually have a Party leader with a vision vice one willing to sell his soul to the highest bidder (Martin/Hargrove love affair).

    Stephen Harper did just great this evening on the National. He answered every question, no stuttering, stammering or beating around the bush.
    Poor Mansbridge did’nt have too much to do but sit there with a verrrrry serious look on his face. If you want soemone who is honest and straight forward Mr. Harper is the man. I held my breath throughout the whole ordeal but Stephen Harper seemed to take it all in stride. Jan. 23 can’t come soon enough because I believe I’m getting ulcers.

  49. This is the second website in which arturdecco has invoked some higher authority to prosecute the administrator/author of a site. Here, it’s a subtle warning — “good thing I saved all the commentary myself” — but over at the Shotgun Arturdecco has turned into a running joke for his threat to call in the RCMP.
    That’s why it’s funny that getting banned here would cause him to mewl “So much for free speech.”
    I can’t confirm this, I’m working on it, but supposedly on a third site he threatened to “tell Mom”.
    BTW, thank you, The Left. Please try to secure such funding as is necessary to restore Arty’s natural habitat. I’m not sure how long he can survive the new one. Keep hope alive.

  50. Did anybody else find the “audience” to be a rather stiff lot, frowning and scowling. A typical sampling of cbc viewers I suppose. I liked Deb Gray’s response to that last caller’s question. He prefaced his question with the suggestion that Harper ran a devious campaign and when challanged to give an example, could only muster a half hearted quesion on health care which Deb Gray answered in less than six seconds, short, sweet, and to the point!
