…the Republican Party has picked up more seats in the House of Representatives than at any time since 1948 — that is more than sixty seats. Ike Skelton, Class of 1976, is gone. Many, many other Democrats are gone.
That, in and of itself, is significant. But that’s not the half of it. The real story is the underreported story of the night — the Republican pick ups at the state level.
(h/t)
And the other underreported story of the night – ACORN files for bankruptcy.

Welcome back. Don’t let it happen again.
The larger question is will the New Tea Party revitalized GOP act like constitutionally restrained republicans and rein in big government and tame the Fed or will they return to their smug,print-spend-debt, big govt GOP ways? 10th amendment legistators?
Fed GOPs -Ron Paul for house leader????
Oh no. The Messiah lost. Does that mean the planet isn’t going to heal nor the oceans recede.
Congrats Kate, on being the Smartest Radio Listener!
(But we already knew that.)
Ron Paul for house leader????
~Occam
Not a chance.
Ron Paul’s positions on defence of America are out of step with the vast majority of Republicans.
Ditto Wendy g. Thought I’d be first, but, second place will do.
As a long time lurker, I must congratulate Kate on her winning Smartest Radio Listener as well!
My tip of the hat to you!
And the Dems elected a dead person:
http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/11/democrats-elect-dead-person-in-california/
The census is going to hand over more seats and electoral votes to the red states. The state level races means the Republicans get an outsized say in who loses their districts in the shrinking states, and where the new districts go in the growing states. As well as cutting up Democrat friendly districts.
Even if the Dems stage a comeback next election, they will be fighting on unfavorable ground for a decade.
Republicans won control of both chambers of the N.C. General Assembly Tuesday, marking their first return to power since 1999 in the House and since 1898 in the Senate. 🙂
First link pointing to wrong spot Kate.
“Ron Paul’s positions on defence of America are out of step with the vast majority of Republicans.” – Oz
GOP’s support for redundant Mil tech contractors is out of step with most Republican tax payer’s budgets. Paul’s defence of America starts at secure borders.
Paul’s defence of America starts at secure borders.
~Occam
Yeah, well he isn’t the only Republican congressman who believes in secure borders.
It’s Ron Paul’s foreign policy that is out of step.
The value of the Republican pick ups in Pennsylvania and Ohio cannot be overstated. Those states are always crucial in presidential elections, and redistricting them under Republican control is going to make those states a much tougher battleground for the Democrats in 2012.
And Alabama isn’t the only state to get a Republican majority for the first time in over 100 years. North Carolina’s legislature also flipped last night. First Republican majority since 1870.
I’m surprised the Democrats got or retained as many votes.
Oh well. Let the games begin.
I hope the Reps’ starve ACORN to death, if the left want a paid for advocacy group let them fund said program.
What’s the use of House majority with Senate minority? Still can’t get any laws passed.
Shows that still great percentage of Americans is brain dead.
Canadian former Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm(D), term-limited out.
The MI governor-elect is a Republican.
We had an interesting choice in or Senate District. Both candidates were pro-life AND pro-Second Amendment. The Republican, Caswell, walked away with it though.

Obama has a veto pen too.
The best part of controling the House?
Congress controls the purse strings of the Federal government.
Added bonus is that they can defund anything they want eg. EPA, Obamacare, Stimulus II
Considering the last 2 years, gridlock is a good thing.
The red tide tsunami is good if for nothing else than a complete and utter lack of excuses if governments at all levels do not get smaller over the next four years. The GOP has a choice: either drastically downsize govt or the Tea Party will diverge and completely obliterate the big-gov neo-conservate GOP.
Mark, hope you are right and that this also starts in Canada. Downsizing in Canada could start with the Wheat Board and Oceans and Fisheries in Saskatchewan.
Add the CBC to that.
Yesterday’s elections in the US were good, but they
can by themselves at most slow the decline. The easy part is over. Much work remains to be done!
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/11/03/republicans-make-historic-gains-state-legislatures-pick-hundreds-seats/
“Overall, more than 6,100 state legislative seats were up for grabs in 46 states. Republican state legislative candidates made a net gain of more than 500 seats on Tuesday, giving them more seats than at any time since 1928, according to the NCSL.
In several states, the party took total control of one or two branches of government.
The GOP took back both chambers in Alabama, North Carolina, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. They also took control of the state legislatures in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio by winning the House — they already held the Senate in those states.
To boot, former GOP Rep. John Kasich ousted Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in Ohio. Republican Tom Corbett also took the Pennsylvania gubernatorial seat back from the Democrats, as did Republican Rick Snyder in Michigan. Republican governors will be in place in Alabama, Maine and Wisconsin as well.
Since redistricting is often subject to a veto by the governor, single-party control of government is ideal for Republicans trying to shape the districts to their liking.
In New York, Republicans were seeking to take back the state Senate, but it was still too close to call.
More chambers were expected to fall from the Democrats, as voters registered their disenchantment with an anemic economy, high unemployment and an overall gloomy national mood leading up to the midterm elections.”
“…though the tally is not final and Republican recruitment arm GOPAC pegs the party’s chamber pickups at about 23.”
So according to the Lame Stream Media all the red state voters are bumbling stupid racists who couldn’t understand the Obama’s superior intellect and fell prey to their fight or flight instincts because they are too dumb to think things through.
Must have been a tough night for George Soros too…
Thanks for that clip of Olberman et al foaming at the mouth with ‘lunatic, stupid, do not get it, have a neurological problem, psychologically unstable misfits, too dumb to be governed, etc. ad infinitum’.
We The People have spoken and rather emphatically; with the Demagogues clearly in massive retreat.

Ken, agreed. As I’ve been arguing at ThePolitic, it’s about time the govt got out of lots of things, like Health Care.
Thanks Oz, ya beat me to it.
I just don’t get it. Do the Liberals not understand what we were after. We wanted to hamstring Obama and we did. That alone was a Victory. Now, if we can stop Obama from making frivolous trips to India that would be great.
The Senate has historically been much more bi-partisan than the House. With a majority in the House and the slim majority of Dems in the Senate, they would be insane not to keep this up.
Besides, there’s another election for 1/3 of the Senate in 2 years time and the people are watching.
This election has kicked the s##t out of the arrogance of the Democrats. One hopes they have learned a lesson in cooperation with the GOP.
Well Ratt I think a lot of Americans would love to pay for Oblamebush’s trip to India. Not near as many of them want to pay for his trip back to the US.
They must know that they will soon be investigated. Time to fold up shop and leave town.
Let the shredding begin!
I’ve seen (and heard) several pundits in the States say that many an investigation will be launched into such issues as Acorn, the new black panthers, SEIU etc. because the GOP in the Congress now has the power of the Congressional Subpoena.
I wonder if anyone will send a Subpoena to the State of Hawaii, Department of Vital Statistics?
Just try telling a Congressman that you can’t produce the documents he demanded to see.
“We shredded them” isn’t going to cut it.
At the very least the IRS is going to be saying that they had to keep them for 8? years and the penalty for destroying them is going to be steep.
grok, Chris, and Oz:
You grossly misunderestimate the arrogance of this Administration and its toadies. Congress CAN subpoena. And scream. But it CAN’T arrest. Of course, the DoJ and FBI will be GLAD to do their bidding, don’t you think? Based on the previous fine performances by those organizations…
And ABCNNBCBS and their dead-tree fellow travelers will undoubtedly put out a fair and balanced story of EVERYTHING that goes on, just like they always do…
Its a start, but America has a long ways to go yet.
Not least keeping a fire under the Republicans for 2 more years.
This is just a bit of what has to be reversed.
The biggest part will be a return to the Constitution being its been shredded by a Judiciary out of control.

It’s a wrap.

Leftists are all focused now on their lint.

“He has strange views about race, opposes abortion, doesn’t trust the Federal Reserve Bank, hates deficits, promotes gun ownership, wants to keep the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay in operation and to do away with the US Department of Education.
And now he wants to lead the Tea Party faction within the Republican Party in the US Senate. It will be the first of its kind in history.”
Ach du lieber! Da big words:
“All of them were quick to use big words. They spoke of “the hand of God,” of “revenge” for Washington, of the new power of the common man. “The people have spoken!” cried Kelly Ayotte, a protegé of Tea Party patron Sarah Palin and the newly appointed Senator for New Hampshire.”

Occam –
” redundant Mil tech contractors “?
The US defense industry consolidated almost 20 years ago. Grumman and Northrop combined, Lockheed and Martin Marietta, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing did also, Raytheon acquired defense units of Hughes, E systems, etc. Having only one or two producers of any critical materiel is very unwise.
Who are the redundant military contractors, among the big dollar categories of defense acquisitio?
AGW Gore has passed the Big Icicle Footprint to O’snow.

“Snow to Spread from Michigan to New York, North Carolina”
“It is only the first week of November, and we already have a lake-effect snow event set to unfold across Great Lakes and snow in the forecast for areas from northern New England to the mountains of North Carolina the next few days.
The wintry weather is arriving right on time according to the 2010-2011 AccuWeather.com Winter Forecast, which is calling for an early winter in the East and a busy lake-effect snow season for the Great Lakes.
Rain will mix with or change to snow from west to east across the Great Lakes through the end of the week, starting with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Wednesday night, Lower Michigan and northern Indiana Thursday and areas farther east through New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia Friday.”
