T- look, I may disagree with Israel’s rejection of Palestinian statehood and its W.Bank settlements, but two facts are basic reality. Israel exists and the Palestinians exist. These two realities aren’t going to disappear and a solution has to be found that enables both.
My repeated suggesion is a two-headed state with political sovereignty for both over a majority of issues but an embedded economy that sets up a type of federated ‘single nation’. Israel requires the W. Bank water, and Palestine requires the protection of Israel..for Iran would swallow a separate Palestine up in a nanosecond and use it as a base against Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon..as well as Israel.
Obama, in my view, has no understanding of the history and geography of the area and simply follows the mechanical leftist view of one side is good and the other is bad…a perspective similar to the mechanical view of the ‘right’, which sees any criticism of Israel as anti-semitic and has the same historic and geographic ignorance and the same black and white polarities.

I very strongly criticize Israel for its policies about the Palestinians – and have received a lot of flak here for doing so. But this criticism has nothing to do with its ‘being Jewish’ or ‘proud of it’ and so on. And he had a reason to make sure it was not used during the campaign and to make sure it WAS used at the innauguration. Sorry – me no dhimmi, I reject all three points in your argument. I think that you should state that, IN YOUR VIEW, my views are errors. I think it’s correct argumentation not to self-define one’s argument as The Truth.
a) Islamic fascism began long before the existence of Israel. The fact that the fascists are using it as an ad hoc cover doesn’t negate that Islamic fascism has, in my view, entirely different causes. Kindly note the facts that Islamic fascism functions as a violent force against other Islamic people, in the ME, in Africa, in Europe.
I suggest that you read Lawrence Wright’s ‘The Looming Tower’ as a start. See also various analyses of fascism. See also problems in societies where the population grows exponentially but the political structure remains operative in a mode that is only suitable for a smaller population ..i.e., it is two-class rather than three class.
The key problem with that, is that it requires repressive force to prevent the emergence of that vital middle class. And a middle class is a CIVIC rather than tribal mode. Islamic fascism is an internal war to maintain tribalism (two-class) and prevent the civic three-class system.
b) You reject a ‘two-headed’ state; I support it. You feel I am in error; I feel you are in error. Again, my view is that SINCE the Israeli increase in population requires a food production system far in excess of dry horticulture, which is the ‘natural’ food production of the region, THEN, Israel requires water. A lot of water. That’s found in the West Bank. It cannot support its population, who also have a modern lifestyle, with food and water..without control of the W. Bank.
Therefore, it is not simply ideological as you consider; it is economic.
Yes, in my view, the Palestinians certainly want their own state. Do you think they prefer occupation and being without a citizenship and freedom of movement? Do you think that they should not be angry about this? Why not?

I think that Obama is actually doing the right thing here.
Israel did something stupid. They dissed the American VP when he was specifically on a trip to restart peace talks. I don’t care if you are a democrat or a republican it’s not showing a lot of respect for the people that support you and probably fund you. They slapped the US. It is true that they apologized but that was only after they realized that they screwed up.
Netanyahu (sp) and right wing groups that support him made a strategic blunder because they saw Obama as weak and they were going to test how weak he was. They basically said that peace was not important to them but that a land grap was.
East Jerusalem was occupied by the Israeli’s in the 6 day war in 1967. They have been colonizing it ever since (squaters rights, etc., change border allocatiions, etc.).
Netanyahu (sp.) got a big surprise in Washington. He got slapped back and spanked by Obama for being a girly boy and he was told to grow up. There was little news about what happened during the talks but it is clear that attitudes in Israel have changed and attitudes in the Palistinian areas (and other Arab nations) based on the newspapers have changed. Obama has actually isolated Hamas and Hezbolah (sp.) because they perceive Obama as being fair. Israel now realizes that Obama wants a real peace agreement and he wants it now and he is not blindly going to supprt Israel especially if they are playing games.
I think that we will finally see a peace agreement this year. It doesn’t solve all problems with islamists but it (just like Iraq) is a game changer and finally something is happening.

The charge of anti-semitism is one I take very seriously, as I am sure you do. You levelled this charge at Obama and now base it on his attendance at the church of Jeremiah Wright – claiming that since Wright is an anti-semite, Obama must be one as well.
I should like you, then, to prove that Wright is an anti-semite. I’ve done some research and I’ve been unable to verify your assertion.

Israel should not have to remove any settlements in a peace agreement with the Palestinians, Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya’alon has told The Jerusalem Post, adding that just as Arabs live in Israel, so, too, should Jews be able to live in a future Palestinian entity.
“If we are talking about coexistence and peace, why the [Palestinian] insistence that the territory they receive be ethnically cleansed of Jews?” Ya’alon asked during a wide-ranging interview that will appear in the Post’s Yom Ha’atzmaut supplement on Monday.
“Why do those areas have to be Judenrein?” he asked. “Don’t Arabs live here, in the Negev and the Galilee? Why isn’t that part of our public discussion? Why doesn’t that scream to the heavens?”
“… the US administration had misdiagnosed the root of the conflict here as territorial, when in reality it was about the failure of the Palestinians to recognize the right of the Jews to be here in any permutation.
“Those who want to continue the Oslo process, who want us to continue to give and give and give, without a Palestinian willingness to recognize our right to a national home, are cooperating with the phased plan for Israel’s destruction,” Ya’alon said.”

That is, to single out, for complaint, people by their religion rather than their work role or their closeness to Obama..suggests anger against the religion/ethnicity rather than the person. What does the religion/ethnicity have to do with keeping Obama from Wright? Nothing. Then why claim that it does?
Same with Wright’s insistence that Israel was carrying out ‘ethnic cleansing’ in Gaza. I certainly was/am criticial of Israel’s actions in Gaza but I don’t feel it had a thing to do with the Palestinian ethnicity but with the Hamas agenda…and it certainly couldn’t be defined as genocide.
Oh, and Wright is quite sure that the I-P conflict is the root cause of Islamic fascism. Exactly what Obama thinks as well.
You attempt to deny the influence of Wright on Obama’s views by your false argument that IF one Catholic says X, then ALL Catholics say X. The reason this is invalid is because the Wright-Obama situation is completely different because there is no direct influential link between the two Sets of Catholics.
Wright was the pastor, the mentor, of the Obama family for 20 years. This is a direct and authoritative link. A person who rejected Wright’s anti-American, anti-white and anti-Jewish rants would have left such mentorship immediately.
