    The worst part is that local papers fill their international/national content from these wire services.
    I can’t wait until all of the local dead tree rags are bankrupted. Local news is going to be forced to the internet eventually. It’s less subscription money paid to the wire services.

  15. There’s little news left in newswires because there’s little honesty, integrity and balance left. Everything’s sensationalized to capture attention and most everything’s intentionally slanted to coincide with the liberal socialist view.
    Maybe part of the reason is that journalists don’t aspire to merely purvey the truth. After all weren’t the roles of Pravda and Tass much more “important” as the guardians and creators of social order? It’s not surprising that the words “Communist” and “Columnist” share so much in common.
    A chord was hit when Palin spoke of death panels. It wasn’t because those words were written expicitly in Obama’s unreadable 1000 page bill. It’s because such panels are the very plausible way for Obama to meet his “no extra cost” promise. Restricting care to shorten life and the termination of “imperfect” lives before becoming money drains is the hushed and hidden last chapter of this bill. The subversive role that the press is playing in pushing the Obamacare bill on the American public is as unmistakable as Pinocchio’s nose.
    But what is really saved and what important purpose do those in the media play when the cost is ultimately the death of our humanity, the stagnation of progress and loss of individual liberty?
    Remember the movie caricatures of crazy disheveled streetcorner Rasputins holding “THE END IS NEAR, REPENT!” signs? That’s really the job that MSM wants to monopolize. Could Obamacare have any chance of passing without them? How long until the Koolaide ward ribbon cutting ceremony at the local hospital?

  16. There is a genuine chance that Obama-care will die in the Senate.
    Despite the Democrats nominal 60 of 100 senate seats….another factor is very present.
    US Senators much like Supreme Court appointees have shown in the past….after being seated become extremely independent.
    Many times Supreme Court nominees have been selected because of their political leanings but to the chagrin of many a President ….these fellows (appointed for life and only removable by the SC itself) become extremely independent….
    This sort of thing has happened before in History…Henry(?) appointed Thomas Becket as Archbishop and then got that nasty surprise….
    US Senators by definition do not generally behave like trained seals….obedient to the whims of the likes of Harry Reed….
    US Senators rely on re-election as well. Many should be nervous about the midterms in 2010.

    wrt papers:
    It seems to me that except for a very small group of people, most people get some of their news from the web. That means to me that people check multiple sources if they are interested in an issue or a topic. This means that individual articles have much less pull on peoples opinion. That also means that the writer must be accurate and have integrity because the consumer has easy access to a variety of writers. I believe the days of being able to “wag the dog” are finished for most people because editors do not have a monopoly on information.
