Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Yep, let’s see how long it takes Kos to realize he’s been found out, and fix his little theft. (Or just delete the whole post and pretend he didn’t do it).
PS: is anyone else disturbed by Kos’ use of the term “Kossacks” to describe his alleged vast army of faithful followers? I’m as fond of a clever pun as the next person, but weren’t the Kossacks, like, gang rapists and that? Haven’t we decided that’s a war crime now…?
Maybe I shouldn’t get my Russian history from Woody Allen movies — somebody enlighten me…
I do wonder how many people are aware of the concept of hotlinking, though.
It’s most definitely not right and with many websites that I have worked on over the years it happens often. All of my sites are now set up to kill hotlinking by default. If I want a site to allow it then we’ll make the change. That said, most people don’t realize that they’re doing it. It just doesn’t occur to them that they’re stealing bandwidth.
However, even a hat tip, acknowledgement or a link would have, at the very least, been more appropriate.
Exactly Brad. To just put up the graphic as if he (Kos) had photoshopped it all on his own… Bad move.
Kathy, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cossack – Cossack was a general term used to describe a group of people that later became synonomous with military (pre- & post-USSR).
Though in this case I think Kos did cross the line, there are a lot of bloggers, myself included, who do load images from other sites from time to time. Generally, I try to limit it to larger hosts like CBC (which I’ve helped pay for) or CNN, etc. (as does Drudge, Nealenews, etc) and not steal bandwidth from smaller sites.
Likewise, I spot others doing it to me from time to time, and that’s ok, though I do reserve the right to replace an image if it’s being used inappropriately.
Some bloggers don’t like you to just download their graphics – there are copyright issues involved, too. I once asked Stephen Taylor what he’d prefer re: a pie graph I wanted to use – he asked me to load from his site, in case he made minor changes.
I suppose the best advice is if in doubt – just ask.
Kate–you could have saved on the words jerk, thief and cheapskate and just used the word Liberal–that term encompasses all that he is and more.
Yep, Kos is a rip off artist alright. He stole the images that JoeSherlock stole right out from under him. Notice that JoeSherlock mentions
“By the way, the original image Kos siphoned-off was one that I had bashed together in PhotoShop back in February 2005, using MSNBC and ‘The Simpsons’ source material.”
So stop yer belly aching and take it like a woman.
“Two individuals whose humour, opinions, and overall greatness in all things bloggy, that continually keep my spirits elevated are James Lileks and Kate McMillan. These two consistently have the best blogs on the net. They make me think and they make me laugh. If youve never checked them out stop reading this crap and do so. Quick. Hurry.”
