Temperatures reached their lowest point in 30 years, plunging to -2C in the capital, Riyadh, and to -6C in mountainous regions blanketed by snow.
At least 10 people have died in the country as a weather system driven South from Siberia sent temperatures plummeting.

Snow in Hawaii too.
Flocked isle mountains to get more snow
By Rod Thompson
rthompson@starbulletin.com
KAILUA-KONA » Hail rattled parts of Kona and a new blanket of snow covered the summits of Hawaii’s three tallest mountains yesterday, and soon the first dusting began to melt off.
The Mauna Kea Weather Center forecast snow flurries and possibly heavy snow today and into tomorrow night on the 13,796-foot mountain.
“It’s ugly up there,” said Gemini Observatory spokesman Peter Michaud in Hilo after receiving a report from the mountain.

This is why the term “climate change” is used instead of global warming.
A snowball’s chance in _____ ????????
Surely, your not saying that the enlightened kingdom bears a resemblance to ______.
Kate, Kate, Kate! There’ll be more hatemail for sure now.
There’s a commenter over there who is blaming “Tsunamis” on human activity. Do ‘warmers get any dumber?
Yeah, right, because the Gaia-worshiping Fascists (Hitler would be sooo proud of AlGore) know that the Gig is up on their global scheme.
Does that also mean that any variation in climate is the result man? Just curious, how exactly are we altering the temperature of the sun?
“Climate
Extreme heat and aridity are characteristic of most of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the few places in the world where summer temperatures above 50 °C (122 °F) have been recorded[citation needed], 51.7C (124F) being the highest ever recorded temperature. In winter, frost or snow can occur in the interior and the higher mountains, although this only occurs once or twice in a decade. Lowest ever recorded temperature is -12.0C recorded at Turaif.
From the Wikipedia article on Saudi Arabia
I just discussed this article with a couple of colleagues from Saudi. “It never gets that cold in Riyadh”. Damned global warming . . . oops — climate change.
And remember – even periods of “normal” weather are expected under the climate change model.
It ain’t the IPCC – it’s Monty Python, with thermometers.
might cool off a few jihadi hotheads . . . it is a sue sign god is pissed off with their cause and paying them back.
In English the comment title reads “Guy doing donuts in the snow.”
Donuts are universal, eh?
And remember, all the effects of global warming/climate change will be bad. You want it warmer, it’ll get colder; you want it drier, it’ll get wetter; you want it windier, it’ll get calmer blah, blah, blah.
Only a fool would think that this shows that global warming is false.
Global warming is proved by collecting data from hundreds (if not thousands) of different locations over a long period of time. Then calculating averages.
The extreme temperature data in some specic location for some limited period of time only affect the calculus of the averages in a very limited way.

Sauce for the goose…..??
“Global warming is proved by collecting data from hundreds (if not thousands) of different locations over a long period of time.”
This explanation is incomplete. If you’ll allow me…
“Global warming is proved by collecting data from hundreds of different locations in the United States, while adding paved parking lots, water treatment plants, air conditioners, barbeques, and burning barrels in the vicinity of temperature measuring devices, over time.”

Snowballs in hell! Ha Ha!
These extreme weather events are being caused by asteroid tu24 rolling through the earth’s magnetosphere.

In the UK the fools want to ban patio heaters. Maybe I’m missing something but wouldn’t the use the patio heaters for cool nights go down as the planet heats? The problem should then correct itself.
Here’s a funny line:
“Environmentalists argue that heaters not only pump heat directly into the atmosphere but also climate-damaging CO2”

“..Only a fool would think that this shows that global warming is false…”
No, you’re right about that. However, longer term trends are definitely showing no global warming since 2002 or so. This “climate plateau” we’re in now has been recognized by the head of the IPCC as worthy of interest, since clearly the global warming “signal” has gotten lost in natures climate noise, at least lately.

Kmn, Environmentalism, like Quebec Separatism, is primarily for people who are bad at math.
The kind of idiot who thinks a frickin’ patio heater is going to “pump heat directly into the atmosphere” (where ELSE would it go?) is the same kind of idiot who thinks Quebec can separate from Canada and not be bankrupt and starving five years later.
Vive Le Quebec Libre and free Canada from the boat anchor that is bilingualism. And don’t expect me to send food when the Quebec Peso is trading at 10k to the dollar.
sacre bleu! it’s just all chemical reactions anyway!
So tell me deep thinking frog, what chemical makes you a Gaia-worshipping Fascist?
Could it be a ripe stinky brie, a Gauloise, or a Chateau de Grenouille?
I had a guy in my cab swear to god that our record low temps of -44 where caused by global warming.Said something about higher temps causing extremes in temps in both directions. All I could was Im sorry I thought it was about warming!
Quebec separatists: the tail that wags the Canadian political dog.
A quick Google brings up this Youtube video of all the snow they had in Saudi Arabia. Be prepared to be astounded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH2rA2D1_mo
AGW. LOL. Time to move on.
Priceless.
Inconvenient truth.
All these astonishingly unusual plummeting temperatures in the most surprising of places.
Suddenly, as GHG emissions are at all-time global highs, we witness global deep freeze. Not warming.
I don’t care what the Chicken Littlists will say to dismiss the significance of this (I recall a recent report that it actually snowed recently in Baghdad for the first time in memory) apparent global cooling. Because I trust my own observations and reasoning based thereupon, rather than corrupted data and mere hypothesis masquerading as “sound science” (and the science isn’t sound, if it’s in its infancy and continues to develop and all that).
What’s causing the global cooling? Who knows? I’m sure Al Gore will invent a theory and call it an “Inconvenient Truth” and scare the hell out of us, and, he hopes, some money, some of which should reach his own pockets somehow…
I’d rather buy a bottle of Al Gore’s Snake Oil, not an intangible, unobservable figment of his bizarre imagination.
No, snow in Riyadh doesn’t prove that Global Warming is false.
But Quebec_Separatist and his fellow ecofascists have been using every thermometer-uptick for the past five years as an excuse to scream OMIGODTHESKYISFALLINGESTABLISHAMASSIVECENTRALPLANNINGBUREAUCRACYIMMEDIATELY and we do so enjoy sneering at you (in a positively Gallic contempt) when the reverse occurs.
Regards,
Ric
You’re still missing the point. Only the severe weather events that prove AGW can be used as data points….geez…otherwise we have to talk about averages. Where have you guys been?
I find these climate people in a complete reality void. They can’t get anything right, first it was global cooling, then global warming and now climate change. These stupid bastards can’t get anything right, and because of that I’m really really scared that now they have picked climate change they might be wrong again and the climate will quit changing.
Seems logical to me
uh oh, anecdotal observation Kate is on the loose again. But if we must accept these non scientific observances, then you prove the point of “climate change” supporters. Weather extremes and weird phenomena are a part of climate change. The scientific community has been seeing it as climate change vs global warming for quite some time now (over a decade). “Global warming” has stuck longer than it should have because it was the first term to describe what scientists started to see more than three decades ago. As the science has evolved so has the terminology, to better reflect what’s occurring as we understand it better.
Steve, read Ric Locke at 8:06 PM until it sinks in.
Of course the climate is changing. It’s always changing! Sometimes it gets warmer, sometimes it gets colder. This planet has always been in a state of change. Life is like that.
the ministry of climate synch will decide..mwaahahaha
“Quebec separatists: the tail that wags the Canadian political dog.”
Hmm, I think those days are waning. Fast.
The demographics are no longer in their favour and economic centre of Canada continues its relentless march west.
The separatist beast looks pretty neutered to me. Or as PM Harper put it:
“Our position is clear. Do the Québécois form a nation within Canada? The answer is yes. Do the Québécois form an independent nation? The answer is no and the answer will always be no…”
A clever, politically astute – and polite – way of saying to Québec: “Whatever, we’re too busy with the real world for you now.”
And another thing………
People who believe in the “climate change” THEORY demand that I have to prove its false.
Sorry, but I think that humans could not change the climate even if we tried.
It is just a THEORY!!!
And if you tell me the “science is settled”………please don’t come crying to me when your kids fall over the edge of the flat Earth when they finally leave home.
Just wait until spring thaw – all we’ll hear about then is global warming, even though spring thaw has come every year about the same time for eons – thank goodness.
January heat to break records in the west
By James Luffman
January 28, 2008 16:31
A number of Western Australian towns are on track to break January temperature records, according to weatherzone.com.au
After 28 days the town of Telfer in the inland Pilbara has an average maximum temperature for the month of more than 44 degrees, a mark not seen since records began there 31 years ago. Included in the average is an astounding 48.1 recorded on the 10th, the hottest day on record at the site.
Other locations with 30 or more years of records where the average maximum temperature for January is likely to set a new high mark include the Interior and Goldfields towns of Warburton and Wiluna with 42 degrees, and Merredin in the Central Wheatbelt with 36 degrees.
Perth’s average maximum for the month is likely to be 33 degrees, the highest since the current site commenced in 1994, but short of the 34 degree mark set at the previous station in 1962.

For those who berate global warming “skeptics”, speaking as a scientist I have to say that “settled science” is an oxymoron; “skeptical scientist” is a redundancy.

Also of note, forecast high for Iqaluit, Nunavut tomorrow is -1. According to
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/nu-21_metric_e.html
it should be roughly -24. Wow, is it ever easy to grab onto one or two days and try to make a point with them. Not that I’m sold on GW, but the frequent posts pointing out extreme weather are a little beneath this site.
Wow, Libforlife… record breaking temps in Australia! Of course, the results are derived from stats no older than I am. Sensationalism in MSM reporting of the weather? Naaaaw!
The managing director for the Farmers Almanac was on CNN this morning. She calmly stated, “It’s the weather, it’s cyclical, usually due to sun activity.” She went on to say that they are predicting a global cooling.
The winter is an inconvenient embarrasment for the AGW cultists. Where’s John Cross?
Yukon Gold it seems to me record temperatures in Australia, even though it’s a short record, is just as valid an argument as the moronic climate change deniers make here based on weather reports.
Idiots!

“is just as valid an argument as the moronic climate change deniers make here based on weather reports.”
these deniers are usually just makin phun of lieberal fools who beleeve in albertgoreical
that any one would base major political and ?or financial decisions on the “garbage” of climate change science is rather scary
so I will ask to present me with a PROGRAM that will acurrately run a climate model, and then try and cum up with a computer that will run said program
I’ll give you a few years to do so
(hint, niether of the above exist)
Has anyone ever noticed that whenever MSN or other media outlets do a slideshow on the “effects” of global warming, all the shots seem to be from favourite exotic tourist destinations of the well-heeled beautiful people?
our record low temps of -44
Did I miss something important? I was in Houston all last week on business.
Apparently a decent townhouse in a good neighbourhood there costs about $120K. Hmmm, TexasCanuck, any comments?
