Charge Of The Al Cavalry

Pelosi to the rescue;

… introducing a bill which would essentially cripple the surge—which is having success—have an arbitrary date of withdrawal, regardless of how close America is to achieving success, and doing it in a way which is sort of ignoring reality. She’s operating as if this is November ’06, when she wins the House and the war is going badly, and not November ’07, when everything has changed on the ground. There was a report in the New York Times today that al-Qaeda’s been driven out of Baghdad. That’s a big story, completely ignored by Democrats who have only one mantra, which is Defeat and Withdrawal.

And not a moment too soon!

An important sheik from an Iraqi province had a reunion on Thursday with some Vermont soldiers at the state National Guard headquarters.
[…]
“We would like to express our appreciation to the National Guard and to the state of Vermont.’’ […] “Today in this state … we present this victory … to the families of the victims of the soldiers in Iraq … and specifically express our appreciation to the state of Vermont.’

  1. Representative Pelosi and Senator Reid are prime examples of why America needs Term Limits
God Bless Vermont, anc Cudo’s to the Sheik Ahmed Abu Risha .

  2. Why the Democrats seem more interested in the political capital to be gained from defeat than in defeating such a dangerous and evil enemy is beyond me. Surely they can see the danger to the world that defeat would bring?
As Arthur Herman said in his excellent March, 2007 article “How to Win in Iraq”,
Most wars are lost, not won

The progress that has been made in such a short time is remarkable.
    From “Badgers Forward”, January 2007:
In December 1951, Oliver Lyttelton, the British Colonial Secretary had a meeting with Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Chief of the Imperial General Staff Field Marshal Montgomery. Lyttelton had just returned from Malaya. The British were tied down in a quagmire, a guerrilla war. They had been there for four years with no end in sight. Following the meeting Field Marshal Montgomery sent the Colonial Secretary this note:
    Dear Lyttelton,
    Malaya
    We must have a plan.
Secondly, we must have a man.
When we have plan and a man, we shall succeed; not otherwise.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Montgomery (F.M.)

We have our man. On Friday, the US Senate confirmed LTG David H. Petraeus for his promotion to General and to become the Commander of Multi-National Force – Iraq
One can make too much of historical parallels, but history can be instructive as well. The anti-war crowd calls Iraq, Vietnam. Many in the pro-war crowd like it to World War II. I argue the Malaya Emergency can teach us equally as much about this type of war and more importantly can help us find our way to victory. The British found their man in General Sir Gerald Templer; he developed and implemented a plan that allowed the Emergency to be declared over seven years later. While that seems like a long time, Templer instilled the spirit and plan in the British Army and the Malayan people.

LTG Petraeus has many fans and as one is prone to rub some people wrong as they rise through ranks, some detractors. My opinion of him based entirely from what I have read and the results I have seen from his work. I have never met the man. When he commanded the 101st Airborne Division here in the early stage of the war his one of the quietest areas in Iraq.
The President has outlined a plan, a plan that does more than just “surge;” it involves continuing the training of the Iraqi Security Forces; it involves the increasing economic aid to Iraq and a way to help give Iraq a future worth creating.
We have the man, we have the plan. Let’s help him help us and implement the plan with our full efforts.
Templer was only in Malaya eighteen months, but when he left he was able to drive from the capitol to the airport in a open car. That would be analogous to LTG Petraeus driving down Route Irish to BIAP in an open car.

  3. For conduct unbecoming a democracy I would sentence Pelosi to five years of hard charity.
    By order of:
Hans-Christian Georg Rupprecht BGS, PDP, CFP
    Commander in Chief
    Frankenstein Battalion
    2nd Squadron: Ulanen-(Lancers) Regiment Großherzog Friedrich von Baden(Rheinisches) Nr.7(Saarbrucken)
    Knecht Rupprecht Division
    Hans Corps
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  4. Pelosi’s job is not to end the war but to corral all the anti-war sentiment and displace it. Don’t fear the reaper.

  5. I simply cannot understand what the hell is wrong with these people. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Meh!

  6. There are two reasons pelosi and the dems are working so hard to sabotage the surge in Iraq.
#1: The dems are so heavily invested in the idea of defeat, that any success in Iraq threatens their credibility. The surge has had considerable success these last few months; this is a major body blow to the dems, and they are reacting accordingly
#2: They still have to placate their ever-widening loony left base, and must be seen as opposing any type of military action in Iraq, even the surge (regardless of success)
I used to think leftoid partisanship was isolated to canuck politics, and that the dems would work together with the republicans on many issues of US national interest. Hah! Pelosi and the rest of the moron left are proving to be just as partisan, if not more so, than our libs/NDP. Never mind that you may be harming your country by your actions: score the political point at all costs.
    Sad, really.

  7. If you thought GWB was unpopular – second only to Harry Truman all-time in the past 100 yrs – with approval ratings dipping down into the low 30s, Nancy Pelosi and the majority dem leadership is barely above 10% approval ratings. If Rudy gets his mojo working 2008 will be a bloodbath for the dems in both houses.

  8. the nancy pelosis of the world don’t give a rats ass about anything but re-election. it’s funny strange because they’ll be the first ones to cave if ever faced with a real threat and gawd knows we don’t need no more stinkin’ surrender monkeys

  9. Impeach them all. If by “all,” you mean the Democrats in the Congress, well, too bad, but members of Congress cannot be impeached. I say again, too bad, becasue they are such a deserving group for removal.

  10. The SOBs can’t be impeached but both Houses of Congress can, by majority vote, expel any Member or Senator. A rarely used power, it’s only been exercised in a very few cases of extreme corruption.
