Dear Sir,
I write in response to your email requesting confirmation of the above named persons study at the University of Durham.
I can confirm that he first started his studies from 1 October 2000 on a postgraduate(research) course leading to a PhD, however for the academic year 2006/07 he is not registered with the University in order to continue with this course.
He certainly has not had this degree conferred, because he has not submitted his thesis yet and his name has not appeared on a pass list.
UPDATE – “ A Liberal candidate for the next election resigned Thursday amid mounting controversy over his intemperate views and exaggerated academic credentials. Farhan Chak offered his resignation after discussions with party officials, said Liberal spokesperson Elizabeth Whiting. The party accepted his resignation, effective immediately.”

The doctoral thesis is the most important component in determining the PHD. It takes, normally, about five (5) years to write, requiring long research, drafts submitted to one’s advisors, then, the final thesis is submitted to a group, which includes an external advisor…
So, Chak has absolutely no right to declare himself as a ‘PHD’. I’d bet that his excuse will be to say that he’s ‘planning his thesis’, ‘writing his thesis’.
Nope- that’s not valid. You can’t claim the title until your thesis has been written, finalized, approved – and until the University decides to award you that degree. It isn’t, as in Chak’s case, self-awarded.
Another Liberal tactic? Self-definition?
I asked him why he continues to use the PhD, if by his own admission, he never had one in the first place!!! Hahaha, what a loser! Also asked him if he really does believe the ‘9/11 + everything else wrong with the world is the fault of Western intelligence services’ hypothesis.

No Mark she has a Master’s in law and a resume far superior to Harper’s. That’s OK though Mark, count the PhDs in the C.R.A.P. you’ll find they are pretty sparse in comparison to the other parties.
