Go renewable. For the environment.
And the UK, which means it’s worldwide.
Asbestos has been discovered in at least 1,000 wind turbines across Britain following the import of components from China, it has been revealed. The parts, contained in brakes used in lifts and hoists, are understood to have come from third-party Chinese suppliers and contain a white asbestos known as chrysotile. […]
The type of asbestos has been completely banned in the UK since November 1999, making it illegal to buy, sell or export any materials with it, according to The Sunday Times which first reported the story.

My first thought was the New York Giants.
Not the first time I’ve heard that. LOL
Several things have been banned in the last couple of generations, and yet they were widely used previously and without any significant widespread issues. Including asbestos. And lead. And uranium. These products were chosen with good reason.
Asbestos dust is harmful when inhaled, but then so are many other materials. Lead is harmful when eaten, but then so is glue. Have you tried to find a food thermometer lately that contains mercury?
Now we’re told that combusting petroleum products is harmful for the atmosphere, but is it?
Whose interests are served by limiting what people may use? What is the cost to find replacements? Who gets to continue using the restricted products?
I agree, the ban was stupid. But it hits the proponents of these things right between the eyes with irony.
I remember in the late 90’s, while living in Toronto, there was a widespread report about arsenic in pressure treated lumber which was primarily used to build decks. On of my neighbors was going on and on about it and I said to her “If your child is licking the deck boards, then you have way more problems than arsenic in the pressure treated wood!” To her credit, she did a double-take and burst out laughing, realizing the truth of what I said.
OMG … I have up close and personal experience with asbestos hysteria. It concerned a high rise office building in Berkeley. One of the tenants was a Law Firm who were annoyed by the construction of neighboring tenant spaces … so they hired a testing agency to look for asbestos in the fireproofing coating the structural steel beams and columns. Yes … they found asbestos.
That triggered asbestos abatement throughout the entire building. Suffice to say it became an utter shitshow … and the minor inconvenience these asshole Lawyers experienced by a couple of small tenant improvements … became exponentially worse … for every single tenant in the building. Yeah … and that Law Firm moved out and sued to be released from their lease.
I could go on with horrific details … but I won’t.
You don’t really want asbestos in your brake pads, given that they wear into dust.
Something that is permanent, such as fireproof coatings or tiles, no problems. Some of the bungalows I work in have wallboards made of the stuff.
If we don’t import from China what will all the slaves do who need to be kept busy while waiting to donate their organs?
L – How much asbestos will be imported in the 50,000/yr. Chinese electric S.U.V. fleet for the next decade?
Will paramedics, have to wear N-95. masks and put on those white body suits before attempting life saving measures and/or treating the injured? Police, tow truck drivers, city clean up crews?
Will those vehicle owners have to pay higher insurance rates ?
Depreciation ? Will it be federal and provincial governments purchasing Chinese electric vehicles to prove they are not racist?
Will the Chinese police operating in Canada, while enforcing Chinese law buy all of them.
P.M. Carney’s “Strategic Partnership” with China unravels one asbestos fibre at a time.
Never mind asbestos – EVs of any kind are already hazardous when attempting an MVA rescue. If the frame is energized due to a short, that’s deadly to the EMTs; if the battery case is compromised you’ve got toxic chemicals and spontaneous runaway fires. They’re just plain dangerous vehicles.
Don’t leave out Ethyl Glycol intoxication
The giant wind factories are a blight on the environment. First and foremost … a visual blight … utterly RUINING the beauty of our wide open spaces. Second … they kill vast numbers of birds. Third … they produce dangerous, unhealthy low frequency vibrations. And fourth … there is no viable plan for disposing of the toxic composite blades.
