New Governor, Same As The Old Governor

Strategic Partnering, Jan 16th

In a more divided and uncertain world, Canada is building a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy. To that end, Canada’s new government is working with urgency and determination to diversify our trade partnerships and catalyse massive new levels of investment. As the world’s second-largest economy, China presents enormous opportunities for Canada in this mission.

Beaver Brook could be the largest North American producer of antimony — a critical mineral threaded through the entire spectrum of modern military hardware, from small arms and artillery shells to advanced missile seekers and night-vision goggles.

But China owns the mine and shut it down in early 2023 — one year before Beijing imposed export controls blocking antimony sales to U.S. military end users, driving prices from about US$5,900 per tonne to more than US$50,000.

  1. Let’s nationalize that mine. It won’t reopen due to local issues, but it would be a feel better!

  2. “But China owns the mine and shut it down in early 2023 — one year before Beijing imposed export controls blocking antimony sales to U.S. military end users, driving prices from about US$5,900 per tonne to more than US$50,000.”

That is the Chinese playbook folks. Wake TF up!

  3. Why are Chinese companies allowed to own companies or real estate in Canada when we cannot do the same in China? If Canada is going to spend 5% of GDP on military, instead of wasting it on more trannies in uniforms, why not invest in ingots of rare minerals labeled as our strategic military reserve.

The biggest problem if we ever go to war with China will be our reliance on them. We won’t be able to build a ship because we have forgotten how. We will instantly lose hundreds of thousands of people to disease when they cut off our drugs. But then we have retards like Turdeau who sent all the PPE reserves to China after the Wuhan outbreak, leaving us with none.

    1. Good question, though I personally have no desire to invest in China or travel there.

Bad Orange Man will come save our bacon if China becomes an issue.

    2. “Why are Chinese companies allowed to own companies or real estate in Canada…”

Because the #Lieberals are in power.

If that changed, I’m sure the ownership of the mine would change with it. Along with a lot of other things in this country.

Vote Conservative next time. Maybe they’re not that great, but at least they’re not #Lieberals.

      1. I concur but at the same time any politician or political party that advocates for conservative philosophy faces an uphill battle.
Canada as it was created, is based on how things worked in jolly old Westminster at the time.
The power is and always will be awarded on a system of patronage and merit is only coincidental to how things work.
So they convince enough people that they can’t survive in a world were they can self govern themselves and they need to be chaperoned by government lest the world devolve into anarchy.
This is part of the reason anti-American rhetoric resonates so well in the safe liberal ridings.
Those mice have never figured out why the cheese is free.
Until the day comes that they run out of other people’s money, conservatives will continue to fight that uphill battle.

      1. There ought to be an animated film about Superman’s Canadian cousin, Maurice Strong. The Kryptonian craft crashes outside Oak Lake, and the rest is goofily stupid fiction. So, quite true to life.

  4. What’s the problem? Canadians love peace. Shuttering a mine that supplies the weapons and mechanisms of War is a good thing … for all the ‘nice’™️ ‘peace loving’ ‘gentler and kinder’ Canadians. Right? Most of your nation cheers Communist China and cannot wait until they take full control of your country …

  5. Lying conniving destructive commie Zipperheads + lazy corrupt socialist cheapskates = American invasion and the seizing of all resources.

  6. The Red Chinese acquired this mine in ‘09. The CPC are not going to fix anything either.

    1. “The CPC are not going to fix anything either.”

Possibly. But, if they thought their seats depended on removing the Chicom taint from Canada, they might.

With the #Lieberals, for sure nothing will change except to get worse.

  7. All for one and one for all.
How long until China establishes a major military base in British Columbia?

  8. I am so tired of every Gov’t announcement starting with “In a more divided and uncertain world” or some variant.
Way to take a side shot at Trump in order to justify whatever your unthinking or downright bozo next move might be.
Actually, I find the world less uncertain with Trump in power. Maybe uncertain for the chardonnay sippers at Davos, as they see their reign of error being threatened by facts, common sense, and national interests rather than Davos narratives. But I love to see the EU elites, the UN, WHO, and the Davos chatterers finally given the disrespect they deserve. May their uncertainty flounder into irrelevance.

  9. Most voting Canadians prefer China to the US and would rather live in a Shithole than be free.

  10. Mar 12th 2026, Marc Carney announces, “Canada’s plan to construct and “defend” Grays Bay Road and Port”.

    Q: defend from who?
    A: not China.

Q: would Carney invoke national security measures to secure Canadian sovereignty over these areas?
A: secure from China? not a chance in hell.

Q: would Trump invoke national security measures and simply take them away, not from Canada but from China?
    A:

  11. I am surprised that variants of the word “expropriate” don’t appear in this post or the woefully ignorant substack article you linked.

Canadian governments at all levels have the power to “expropriate” (==seize, grab, take or ‘condemn’ as the Americans say) property. Canada having a legal system descended from the UK it can be done with or without compensation.

Why is this not happening? That’s the real question.

The answer is spineless and pig ignorant politicians at all levels. ie, the usual answer to the cause of Canadian problems.
