Canada is a different place than the US, and Harper could not have done the kinds of things Trump did. Look how Trump is pretty universally loathed in Canada! It is unfortunate, but it is how Canadians manage to distinguish themselves (psychologically) from Americans. Being socialist makes Canadians feel suprerior to the US. It is crazy, but it is a reality that any Canadian leader must contend with. I think seeing the US thrive under Trump, while our economy and society go downhill might wake up a few Canadians. It would be inappropriate to designate this a day of remembrance for the Muslim deaths when we do not yet have a clear idea why Bissonette acted and whether or not he acted alone. (I know that is the official story, but I would like to hear some statements from Bissonette himself confirming that.) Regardless of this issue, I am pretty sure the PM will go for this one.
