Y2Kyoto: Shut Up, They Argued

Everything old is blue again.

This week I was invited by a colleague to try out the BSky app as an alternative to X/Twitter. They told me that it is far more welcoming for discussion about energy and climate. Sure, I thought, I’ll give it a try.

I actively posted there for a bit and learned that climate activists have created a Bsky climate “blocklist” that focuses on me and anyone who mentions me — Matt Yglesias of Slow Boring and Ted Nordhaus of The Breakthrough Institute are also on it. The blocklist prevents those on it from seeing the posts of those who join and creates a disincentive for anyone to mention those on the list, lest they get added to it. This is not a new strategy for some climate scientists and journalists.

People are free to create their social media echo chambers however they like, of course, but one detail is worth mentioning — One person promoting the block list is one of the lead scientists of the U.S. National Climate Assessment. That degree of intolerance among those selected to represent the climate science community is a problem for climate science and politics.

  1. Looking forward to Trump science grants that reward research debunking agw. I love listening to commies tell me how easily scientists are bought.

  2. Bluesky has taken the opposite approach to X. While X is the wild west, allowing almost any post — even those they probably shouldn’t — Bluesky wants to control the narrative, making it a safe space for progressives.

Which means Bluesky is going to be boring as hell to most readers.

    1. Bluesky is operated by the “Twit” Safety Team that quit when Musk took over, they reportedly have a 10,000 post review queue of democrats ratting on other democrats who are saying “unsafe” things.

  3. Reason 469 why the government should not fund research. The climate hysteria, state funding, political complex is incestuous, corrupt, and has spread to all disciplines. State funded “scientists” engaged in private sector censorship even if on their own time is essentially an extension of state censorship.

  4. Why anyone who is not a warped leftist would join BlueSky is beyond me.
“Conservatives” who join that sh1thole just give it legitimacy to claim its neutral, while responses to MSM gaslighting will be just as locked down as they were in Twitter in 2020.
I’d say anyone who claims to be a conservative or libertarian who joins that echo-chamber is in reality controlled opposition, at best.

  5. Progressives hate debating because they are really bad debaters. It’s that simple. It’s why they seek to control and cancel people instead of to convince people. Allowing diverse views and differences of opinion means a loss of control. A person who is confident in their opinion doesn’t resort to “Shut up, he explained” with a strongly implied “or else”.

    1. Al Gore said … “the planet has a fever…”. Isn’t that enough for you? It is for the vast majority of poorly educated citizens …

      1. Yep. I also remember when Rush Limbaugh had a countdown clock based on when Al Gore said the world would end. Oddly, none of the climate catastrophe cultists doomsday predictions ever happen. Yet we’re supposed to forget all of their failed predictions but heed their new, updated warnings as they preach about fire and brimstone.

        “The science is settled”.

  6. Cancel culture is alive and well on Bluesky. I’m tempted to post a Jordan Peterson talk and see how long it stays up

  7. Hmm, guess this politician shouldn’t post in a progressive safe space –

    Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT)
Hi, I’m Steve Daines. My pronouns are Republican Majority,”

  8. I have worked with scientists for over 40 years. They are some of the most unstable and highly emotional people you will meet. Add to that a peculiar high intelligence and extreme determination and I’m not surprised they have guards at the gate of the echo chambers. I wouldn’t let a climate scientist walk my dog. But if you want something completely different here is Jørgen Peder Steffensen (Niels Bohr Institute) talking about Greenland ice cores.

My favorite part … “we picked the worst time to conduct a temperature experiment. We started at the coldest period of the last 8,000 years (1875)”. I paraphrased his comment.

  9. I predict BlueSky will last 6 months at the outside, maybe 3. See “Rob Reiner” and his rant against the platform. If crazy Rob doesn’t think it’s blue enough, you’re in trouble.

  10. Leftism as currently practiced has entered a terminal decline phase, as stricter and stricter purity tests are applied. Last person out please turn off the lights is an apt metaphor.

  11. Gavin Newsom declared 3 years ago that CA was in the grips of a never ending global warming drought. Insisted that the drought will never end. And right on cue, the earth mocked Gavin by unleashing 2 epic storm years in a row. And THIS rainy season is starting like few do with multiple FEET of snow in the sierra BEFORE THANKSGIVING and huge rainfall throughout N.CA.

Go ahead … read the numbers and find a never ending drought?

So now … the “permanent” blue skies have turned gray … so now the global warmists claim EXTREME weather … bomb cyclones … atmospheric rivers… oh my!

Yeah … no social media arguments needed. Nature mocks their echo chamber

  12. The OCEANS have Risen how Much…?
    ….a Big FAT ZERO.
I’m pretty sure that anyone on this forum knows full well “Climate Change” is & always HAS BEEN utter BS…

We can thank Maurice Strong for initiating the entire scam. CO2 levels are at their lowest levels EVER….but hey that Hockey Stick..
