Actual repeat violent offenders in Canada are given lenient sentences but words the Trudeau Liberal-NDP government finds offensive can result in $70,000 (20k for “victims”, 50k fines to government) and a maximum of life imprisonment. The offended accuser can get anonymity and accused can be slapped with a gag order, which looks like a kangaroo court and star chamber combo.
Yeah, that’s not going to be abused for profit and politics- remember that Mark Steyn’s accuser, Richard Warman (a former commission employee), filed the almost all of the Section 13 Canadian Human Rights cases and the nutter in BC who kept bringing cases against immigrant women for not waxing “her” balls.
Then there’s Trudeau himself with his routine and verbally vile attacks on anyone who disagrees with him. He throws them in jail. He freezes their bank accounts. He illegally invoked the Emergencies Act. Considering the vague, subjective language of the Online Harms bill, a solution might be to flood the new bureaucratic Department of Hurt Feelings and Wrong Think with complaints. Thousands of complaints. Clog the system until it has so much backlog that it can’t function. Then hope the Conservatives get rid of the law and its bureaucracy.

Authoritarians never imagine that the laws they champion could be turned against them or their ideology. They think only the people they hate will suffer at the hands of government. Maybe they never took a history or psychology class. If they did, they obviously didn’t understand the lessons and/or don’t have the critical thinking skills to apply the knowledge. I think the explanation is that they are educated but also foolish an unwise.
They presume they will never lose control of such levers of power. And they will often take steps to ensure such.
Pickton has as much chance of being released as Charles Manson did.
