I do the Mike Pence thing too – never be in an office alone with a female – coworker, direct report, whatever.

Because if I am accused, under Michigan law, I pretty much have to prove myself innocent. The law is the law, no sense complaining, I simply adjust my behavior so I can’t be taken advantage of. There are bad people in business (especially automotive!) and some of them are female. Those people are more than willing to blackmail you if you aren’t smart.
Good advice. That’s something anyone with an ex-wife should have learned through experience. When dealing with any accusation from a woman, a man is always guilty until proven innocent. Yes, it’s not fair; lots of things in life are not fair.

I know, a chickensh*t way out that hurts his children even more, but still a testament to the type of real pain and suffering that scorned women can target at their victim. Pitting children against their very own loving father is now an honored tradition with many bitter, hate-filled divorcees. And our courts avidly enable it.
The workplace seems to be turning into yet another playground for those bitter, scorned and angry women out there to f*ck with those men they decide to target. Also, filling workplaces with snowflakes and PC’ness is yet another way for socialists to undermine capitalism.
The workplace and flirting/dating certainly has become a minefield in our ultra sensitive, ultra neurotic culture. Who could possibly conform to every rule that now defines harassment including sexism, racism, microaggressions, preferred pronouns and the list continues to change and devolve. If you look at human rights decisions, pretty much everyone at some time or another is guilty. “Show me the man (or woman) and I’ll show you the crime. No one has immunity.
I’m not so sure that’s what’s going on here though. To me it sounds like one of those things that happens in marriage that has nothing to do with gender wars. Over time conditions and understandings happen that couples have personal reasons for respecting. These aren’t anyone else’s business but their own.
It doesn’t surprise me that both sides of the gender war immediately assume the worst about each other. Most gender warriors do not seem to be successful at long term relationships and really believe the other group is always evil.

The last decade or so I made sure I was never alone with any of our female office staff, not that I did not trust them on a personal basis, but because of the fear that societal trends had instilled in me and I thought that men do not stand a chance in the courts even if falsely accused.

Office politics is always a mine field of varying risk. There are abusers and the abused almost everywhere. I’ve just about seen it all. Generally, older women not new to the workplace were safer (more emotionally stable) behind closed doors but younger ones, much less so. The much dreaded performance reviews pretty much had to be that way. These environments are one reason that when I went out on my own almost 20 years ago, I swore that I would never have another employee and I never did. Being an outsider on a temporary project made me the happiest person in any office.
