    Informative op-ed by Ms. Kheiriddin. It’s depressing reading on the surface, reading how much increased power Carney has. Indeed the Carney Liberal government has more power than, say, previous Liberal majority governments under Chretien and Trudeau II. Then we had a corporate media who would investigate federal scandals. Now our paid-for corporate media simply regurgitate PMO talking points.

    But Liberal/media majorities bring their own weaknesses. For one thing, as Canadians become power, they see the disconnect between the facile rose-coloured talk on TV news and reality. Second, the small, conservative media in Canada are growing, at the expense of the decaying, corrupt old media. The growing social media and AI make Liberal corruption visible.

    Carney’s weak points are the deteriorating economy and his connection to China. We should exploit these moving forward.

        I do agree about Mr. Carney’s sleazy personality. For example, about an hour ago I ran Patrick Pichette through the Election Canada donations page — the guy who spoke at the Liberal convention last week, advocating for a $500,000 exit tax for college graduates leaving Canada. He donated $1,750 to Mark Carney’s nomination run last year. Mr. Pichette is the CEO of a financial corporation called Inovia, based in London, UK. One could bet that Carney clinked champagne glasses with Pichette during his tenure as Bank of England governor.

        We should never give up. Look at the energetic anti-migrant demonstrations in the UK and Ireland. Why don’t we have like demonstrations here? If anything the anti-English police have raided conservatives’ houses for supposed “hateful” posts. So far we haven’t seen the same fascist practice here, although that may change. But here conservatives seem timid to take to the streets. To defeat the Liberals conservatives and independents have to organize. As it is Carney will continue to make things worse for the law-abiding working class, while enriching the ruling class.

    Carney is gracing us with a temporary ten cent saving? Why doesn’t he explain why gas costs up to $0.50 per liter more in Canada than in the US?     1. Maritimer, I just did a search on gas taxes here in Alberta. Federal tax was 10 cents, Alberta tax was 13 cents, the AI search assist said there was approximately 7 cents of Carbon tax that is applied at the industry level (unseen by citizens but passed on to consumers.) Finally there is GST which is applied after all the other taxes have been levied. Here in Alberta that amounts to about 7 cents (1.50+ gas, times 5% is another 7 cents.) Total taxes 10+13+7+7=37 cents per litre. • FYI the price of oil was around $100 per barrel from mid 2011 to April 2014, with a couple of 6 month periods thrown in. Nobody likes to pay high prices but what goes up usually goes down.

        And in April 2014, the average gasoline price in Canada was $1.342 per litre, what cost regulations? 0.40 – 0.50 dollars per liter?
