spotted this in a comments section of online National Post regarding 3 levels of govt response to housing development fee(fie foe fum)s in Tranna:
regarding Toronto housing development fees:
Which begs the question: if the city knows that taxes and fees are driving up the cost of living, why not find ways to reduce them across the board, instead of trying to undercut the private sector by doling out special favours to its own pet project?”
Ummm, we’re talking about Toronto, where just one week ago they made a big announcement with Mark Carney, Doug Ford and Olivia Chow sharing a stage, expounding on the topic of providing “relief” intended to make house-building more affordable by subsidizing development fees.
Follow the bouncing ball with me…
They all agree that one of the major impediments to increasing housing starts are the eye-watering amounts the City of Toronto charges as “development fees” – so to “solve” this issue, Mark Carney is ponying up $4.4 Billion future tax payer dollars (that he will borrow) and Doug Ford matched that commitment with $4.4 Billion future tax payer dollars he does not have either (it will be borrowed) and they will be paying those borrowed dollars to developers IN ORDER TO SUBSIDIZE the fees they pay to the City of Toronto.
So to summarize, two levels of government are incurring DEBT in order for e third level of government to count that debt as REVENUE.
If you tried doing that in the private sector, you would swiftly find yourself in jail for FRAUD.
Two points which make this even worse:
1) at no point did it occur to anyone that maybe the actual fees could be lowered
2) we are right now in the midst of two by-elections, the stakes for which are converting a minority government into a majority government. NO MEDIA who reported on this event bothered noting the bad optics of announcing this in the midst of an election campaign.
scathing and spot on
lower fees? now that’s ridiculous.
lowering fees, would be to libtards like jailing actual criminals!
HIGH SPEED RAIL:
Every north american commuter rail project completed in the past 50 years went 200-300% over budget and has ridership less than half of what was forecast
https://instapundit.com/787396/
And no transit system in the western hemisphere is self-supporting, to say nothing of the absurd possibility of profitable.
Yet … the CA High Speed [sic] Rail Authority has continually claimed that the train between some remote “LA” Station and Fremont CA with be “revenue neutral” … self sustaining … and “affordable”.
A cursory look at their assumptions reveals the utter absurdity of ALL the underlying economics. Which just gets worse with every cost overrun.
It’s the old double and half rule. If it’s government, double the cost and cut the benefits by half and you’re close to the result. If FN are involved then switch to the quadruple and quarter rule. If it’s in Quebec, the five times, one fifth rule. If it’s in Newfoundland or involves a pipeline the ten times, one tenth rule.
Oh, sure. Now they want to evaluate the jabs…
‘Humiliating’: Pfizer cancels COVID vaccine trial for lack of interest as global scrutiny mounts.
Pfizer and its COVID mRNA vaccine partner BioNTech abruptly pulled the plug on their trial for healthy 50-64 year-olds, telling trial investigators in a March 30 letter they were coming up short on the 25,000-30,000 enrollment needed to generate enough data to evaluate the jabs, Reuters reported, citing a letter it viewed.

Why, yes. Yes, I do…
In January, Iran had a stronger Navy than Canada.
Now Iran’s navy has been sunk.
I hope everyone now understands how completely full of Mark Carney is.

Carney will take Canada to WAR with the US? LOL … with his Brampton Army of turbans? LOL

A Steve Forbes essay stating why the two-week cease-fire is bad. One cannot reason with rabid dogs.
Forbes and you, just don’t git it, it’s all about politics, mid-terms are in the wind I hear.
One of the things I like best about my President’s administration has been the unmasking of the so-called experts and elites, our oh-so-superior leaders, as a bunch of arrogant dunderheads.
What? Jane? You don’t believe that Jake Sullivan is the TOP US expert on Iranian relations and diplomatic negotiations? He’s a Rhodes Scholar! And Yale educated!
The original cost of the Trans Mountain pipeline project was approximately $5.4 billion in 2013.
The final cost of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion has been reported to be around C$34 billion, which is significantly higher than the initial estimate of $5.4 billion.
No bloody kidding, ‘significantly’ does not really cover the actual difference.
Though as it is, the cost is not a problem to the government pigs, the bureaucratic pigs and assorted hanger-on’s that profited handsomely from their scam.
If anybody, but even the last homeless think that the Q’bec-Ontario track is going to cost $90 B, of course they are completely removed from reality.
The population of this country really does not care that it’s going downhill.
Once the highest standard of living in the whole universe and here we are today.
The population likes it, if it even gives a thought to it.
The high speed rail is budgeted at $90 billion, will likely cost $200 billion and will lose $500 on every passenger carried just like Via. Great idea.
