    to recap, that was the time the elementary teachers allowed the recess nazi to charge at me intending to beat me up for fun an entertainment.
    he ran into a propeller aka my left fist. after knocking him down, with which l hit him in his blonde haired blue eyed face probably a dozen times until the andrenal rush was spent.
    it sufficed. the only one more surprised at the outcome than him was me.
    it sufficed further to deter any more bullying for the rest of my time at that place.
    then in high school the jocks were far more interested in girls than using me as a punching bag.
    the nazi never showed his face again having gone home and hung himself.
    l lay his blood on the hands of the teachers creating the environment he engaged in the attempt.
    1960s, anybody remember posters, reminders in class, announcement over the intecom ‘if somebody is bent on abusing you in any way pls follow this procedure’? no?
    because they never did.
    ’twas open season, a taste of the wild west. the common refrain ‘all part of growing up’.
    p.s. there are MANY forms of bullying. looks like one of them continues in BC in 7th grade.

      grade 7 in the 60s…I was learning about explorers like Champlain and enjoying geography.
      yeah, we all had a schoolyard scrap.
      if you are that old, you should best have gotten over it long before now.
      The topic at hand, here, is about latter day indoctrination of our yutes, not about your inability to get over your special slings, arrows, and slights.

      1. mmmmmm nah, lm having vastly too much entertainment myself retelling how l was a WW II vet 18 years after the official end. and besides which being autistic with inordinate powers of recollection, curiously the factor of time lapse is not so prominent.
        and the irritating part that triggers the recollections are STILL HAPPENING. so there.
        the silver lining is the devastating psychological injury is a shell of its once mighty self and morphs into a broader commentary on society. aka the bigger picture.
        where bullying is still de riguer. THAT part l leave to *others* to ‘handle it handle it handle it’
        are you saying there is NO NEED anymore to use strategies against bullying?

        besides which, my experience may give others hope in that no matter how bad things get they can turn around drastically and decisively.

  3. How did all that Indian collectivism work out for them? If we European, Christian, Westerners were as savage as the natives … they’d ALL be dead. And we’d be fertilizing our crop lands with their bones. They never got so lucky as to have been conquered by white Christian Colonials … I’m getting quite annoyed by their lack of assimilation (except for all that free money and land we give them). They assimilate just fine behind the wheel of a new dual quad pickup truck and snow machine. Right Ke-mo sah-bee?

    1. furthermore if IF there were civilzations, even and especially lo tech ones, their artifacts would be ground up, eroded, corroded over the last 20,000,000 years. whose to say? then were THEY ‘1st peoples’? because compared to dinosaurs which left bones=fossils over the course of a billion years, is it possible those left over the course of 200,000 lifetime of THAT civilization the odds of finding evidence dwindles?

  9. Land acknowledgment: Here where we stand the people that convinced the English they owned the place sold it for forever welfare. This is Crown land now, bought fair and square. I know this because I pay the crown for the privilege to stay on it. Or else. So there will be no smoking of weird weeds or fungi, no banging on drums, and no incoherent chanting. Enough bollocks.

  10. I see it’s a hostile crowd, but I myself see nothing inherently offensive in a land acknowledgment. Obviously you can make an offensive acknowledgement, I believe the King indeed was reported to have delivered one in Ottawa last year. But the acknowledgement usually used in Calgary doesn’t strike me as objectionable in any way. If they’re actually going to teach people to make better ones, I think that’s cool. Okay, I won’t get my hopes up, but let’s admit the possibility.
