This is not the kind of history that any level of government should be making. But I guess it’s okay, as long as we call the spending “investment”.
The New Brunswick government says its investments in health care have helped push the budget into a record deficit. Introduced on Tuesday, the budget’s $1.4-billion deficit is the largest in the province’s history, according to Finance Department staff.

The federal government is putting $200 million toward a Canadian-owned launch pad so it can send satellites into orbit without the assistance of other nations or other foreign third parties.
And New Brunswick gets over $3 Billion in equalization.
Just a year or so ago, the NB budget was balanced.
In fact, the then PC Government used the Billions $ that Trudeau was shoveling to provinces, to pay the debt from $14 Billion to $11 Billion.
The joie de vivre folk were enraged they didn’t get their big spendathon and elected DEI dolt Holt, who in a most Liberal fashion, bought the teachers and the nurses and who knows who else, BEFORE doing the math.
Her promised balanced budget was a LIE.
A $1.4 Billion LIE.
Her budgets now promise, in the next 4 years, to wipe out the previous billions of debt reduction and then some.
Canadians are so badly governed, and such mice, it’s beyond pathetic.
There is only one country on Earth where the majority of citizens want to be free. In every other country, the serfs all want the government to take care of them, think for them and they don’t care if they’re enslaved for it. The government can waste all the taxpayer money it wants; even money it doesn’t have. The serfs only care about the free stuff. When countries fail, the only solution the serfs accept is more socialism.
Canada’s governments do not know why launch pads are as far south as we can build them (for northern hemisphere nations). The surface speed of the earth is maximum at the equator, providing a significant part of the initial acceleration as the rocket is launched toward the east. Farther north, more fuel and power will be required. The Soviets had to launch from the southernmost of their puppet states (Kazakhstan), as they had no equatorial bases with the supporting infrastructure, and they also landed on land rather than water, another hazard. They still launch from Kazakhstan, leasing the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

It’s an investment. Politicians, bureaucrats and crony capitalists make one hell of a (kickback) return on taxpayer dollars. Taxpayers, on the other hand, they just get screwed.
If any taxpayers deserve to get screwed, it’s Canadians.

Tax it at source, make it too complicated for Mathless Canadians(most of them), tax them ridiculously, give them a measly few hundred bucks and the poor wee morons will think they are getting a bonus.

So, there are about 800k people in NB. So, that’s $1,400,000,000 / 800,000 = $1,750 per person added to the debt. Ah, the government credit card, there’s no limit and there’s no payment due date. Right.
$200 million is the start point for that launchpad, it’s not the endpoint, it’s not even a reasonable promise to try and get it done point.
It will certainly launch a few bank accounts.

I think the government is involved in this launch, mostly because they don’t want to be using Elon Musk’s launch apparatus and the #Libranos don’t agree with Musk on anything, nor is there a slush fund to provide for the #Librano insiders who will become moderately wealthy by their proximity to this boondoggle.

The Gov’t of BC is building their own minor boondoggle by bringing new internet access to The Queen Charlotte Islands / Haida Gwaii for $24 million, for 5000 people, that’s $4800 each. The local band will own 50% of this so I guess they’re planning on making some money so there’ll be a monthly charge, just like there would be if Haida Gwaii used Starlink to access the internet, but Starlink is owned by the same guy who builds rocket ships and already has access to a launch pad. I guess if his politics weren’t so revolting to the #Libranos then Canada could swing a deal, perhaps include it with the free trade deal, lol…
