Meta is planning sweeping layoffs that could affect 20% or more of the company, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, as Meta seeks to offset costly artificial intelligence infrastructure bets and prepare for greater efficiency brought about by AI-assisted workers.

  3. Interesting how a technology which was supposed to slash costs by increasing efficiency has actually raised costs so much that it could sink the whole company.

    I think most people would be shocked and disturbed at the sheer half-assedness of the software that runs everything. The last five software companies I’ve worked for did not, in any meaningful sense, even test their software before releasing it. One of those was a medical software company. One was a financial software company.

    There’s neither incentives nor consequences, and it’s been getting worse over the decades.
