It would be enlightening to see a racial/national origin analysis of the people subjected to MAID.
MAID has gone way beyond its original intent. It’s now being repurposed as a healthcare cost minimizer. There’s also rumors that the expansion of MAID to younger, healthier people is tied to the lucrative organ donation market. If true, that’s pretty disturbing.
What also is making me raise an eyebrow is advanced care directives. We recently had a new will drawn up and decided to include an advanced care directive. After reading the clauses that define the reasons for discontinuing treatment, implementing DNR and starting end of life care I became uncomfortable. Some of the things on there I wouldn’t consider sufficient to stop treatment but perhaps I’m reading it wrong. The lawyer also didn’t add in our request concerning no organ donation, which we emphasized in writing and during the in-person meeting. I assume they are working off a standard template but adjustments and deletions will need to be made before I’m comfortable with the directive. After covid, I have very little trust or confidence in the Canadian healthcare system.
