If some of the AI generated nonsense I’ve run across lately is going to become commonplace, it’s little wonder that investors are getting skittish.
Amazon.com shares slid 9% on Friday after the company outlined a planned $200 billion capital outlay for the year, stoking investor concerns about the scale of Big Tech’s spending on artificial intelligence.

But the dead internet theory goes even further. Many of the accounts that engage with such content also appear to be managed by artificial intelligence agents. This creates a vicious cycle of artificial engagement, one that has no clear agenda and no longer involves humans at all.
A huge amount of YouTube content is now AI generated. Especially popular is political commentary seemingly by actual people, except they’re fake. And YouTube does a poor job marking which ones are — either fully or partially — AI.

Yes, I too find a lot of political commentary, that is “new” to me, appears to be computer generated. I cannot even stomach computer generated voice-overs on documentaries and other content. It is obviously not a human because of the … pauses …. in places wrong. Maybe with, better
algorithms, things will
improve.
I’m not too worried about the one’s that people can readily detect as AI slop. It’s the ones that people can’t detect.
Over the past year I have evolved my criticism of AI as bots ending up talking with themselves and their human handlers, trending all the time towards a perfusion of mediocre memes, based upon arithmetical averages and human prejudice rather than truth or accuracy or originality. Now I understand this idea has been named Dead Internet Theory.
AI IS BS.
At some point, advertisers will come to understand that clicks do not equal eyeballs.
The return on general AI investment seems dubious considering the enormous amounts of money.
But is Amazon stupid?
They had revenue of $213.39 billion for the quarter and EPS of $1.95.
They know more than your average Joe.
Them effing boxes are everywhere. Nice to see Bezos taking a bath on the Washington Pist.
