1. Why they ever though opening their HQ in Chicago was a good idea to begin with is beyond me.

   1. I think because the owner or the person that developed the franchise system was there and there are a lot of food services in Chicago.

4. It’s all very Randian. Political ineptness creates an intolerable environment for businesses, businesses leave or close, and politicians condemn those businesses for their greed.

5. This effect shows the difference between academic theories and reality. Since the early 2000s, the progrssives have been arguing that academics have “proved” that many of the structures of society are artificial concepts and can be easily discarded. Turns out that ensuring property rights and prosecuting crimes are important societal structures after all. When property becomes threatened by impossible levels of taxes, fees and regulations then businesses and people will avoid an area/city or move somewhere else. Cities/areas that allow crime to run rampant lose businesses and residents.

   Progressives will never admit that the academic theories were wrong, of course, because that opens up all of the other academic nonsense to criticism and skepticism : Transwomen are real women, modern monetary theory, DEI, climate change doomsday scenarios, critical race theory…

   *( Progressive-ism is a brain parasite, that is often acquired in schoolrooms. It has become an out of control pandemic in universities. As with other contagions, prevention is the best strategy. Following diagnosis, simply mandate all infected faculty and administrators into early retirement or transfer them to isolation e.i. In Cuba or North Korea. Many of the students may be rehabilitated by reading or listening and participating in free speech about the Classic literature and thought of Western Civilization. Special attention to the 10 Commandments is recommended.

    Ironically the move from Oakbrook Ill.to Chicago was to attract top talent from Universities who preferred high density urban areas as opposed to the isolation and seclusion as well as the safety of suburbs.
