Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

big alcohol is trying to fear monger plants again, now that millennials are putting the bottles down in favor of cannabis and psychedelics.
I honestly can’t believe Megyn Kelly or that 50 year old virgin she had for a guest could keep a straight face.
Alex Berenson, enchanted by the sound of his own blather, blathers on…
I think the evidence should be reviewed. If it’s reasonable, then let’s discuss. Just pooh poohing the author isn’t terribly constructive. I’m not saying that alcohol doesn’t have its faults, but I know people who have used marijuana for years who are currently totally off the rails. Perhaps there are other contributing factors…
Metabolism perhaps.
I had a couple of friends who could smoke cigarettes for a week or two or even much longer, stop, and then smoke a few every time we got together in a bar setting and they never got hooked.
“I think the evidence should be reviewed.”
It has been. Ad nauseam. By government weenies, physicians and also plain old people like myself.
TL/DR, the author is a talking head farming for clicks.
Yes, cannabis can be harmful if ingested constantly in heroic doses. So can water. It’ll literally kill you if you drink too much water every day for months, as the stupid water-bottle girlies found out in the 2000s.
And yes, people who consume too much cannabis have done bad things in the past. Did the cannabis -make- them do it? Or did they consume heroic amounts of cannabis because their brain had a bag of cats in it?
TL/DR again, there is no evidence that cannabis consumption will cause insanity or antisocial behavior. There are only correlations being drawn by dishonest people like the author here, whose ulterior motive is so strong it fairly glows in the dark.
To put it bluntly for the paid trolls, cannabis causes disorder the way guns cause crime. Or the way ice cream causes robberies, to take it to the limit of foolishness.
Evidence for the effects of marijuana has been reviewed… ad nauseam? Surely there’s more to it than that? Could they not have reviewed it to the point of madness? Or to the point where we all lose interest?
Today’s MJ is hugely more potent that what we had some 5 decades ago. However… like with a lot of self-medication drugs (including alcohol) there are some who can manage its use responsibly, and others who are completely incapable of controlling their use of that drug (and this was just as true back then as it is now).
The underlying problem we now face is that we have largely eliminated consequences for behavior while under the influence of “overindulgence”. And that is an Econ 101 issue… when bad behavior costs users less (in the way of consequences, in this case) you ALWAYS get more bad behavior.
The debate goes on and the argument that weed is less damaging than alcohol is not an especially good one even if it was eventually proven to be true. I’ve never seen people on weed or alcohol do anything especially smart and those that consume either in large quantities over time live shitty lives and ruin other peoples’.
Paging Winston Churchill.
I’m a Pot Smoker. 30+ yrs. I run large construction projects. Many others can’t handle half of what I smoke (+~ 1 ounce/week) Alcohol is hands down the worst poison in our society.
I get up at 4:30 everyday and work. I’m 58 and can still outwork pussy GenZ.
Stop wasting time on Demonizing Weed instead of the actual DEMON.
Reiner was a mental case. He had the crazy eyes. He owns what he did, stop blaming MaryJane. I’m in love with MaryJane.
As I said above, some can handle it, and others cannot (and it’s a spectrum, not a yes/no switch). Without significant consequences for those who exhibit bad behaviors as a result of their substance abuse, we will continue to see more of that substance abuse.
Agree with you. I’ve smoked (lightly) since I was 16. I’m 70. Retired lawyer, good career, family, successful kids, etc. I hate the effects alcohol has on my body, and like pot more.
But, like anything, people with existing issues will be affected differently. I know people who ruined their life chances with pot. Of course, I know way more who ruined themselves with EtOH.
Berenson’s pretty sharp, and he does a good job documenting his conclusions. I wouldn’t dismiss him.
(P.S. This thing about pot being SO much stronger now – the THC content is higher, but it doesn’t make me any higher than I used to get in college on ditchweed.)
Well said, Bobby B.
I am pushing 70 years old, and have been smoking steady for over 50 years.
I have worked hard, and achieved a comfortable retirement situation, complete with a loving wife.
I also enjoy a drap or 3 of whiskey along with a high test reefer, then go for a stroll in my neighbourhood and greet dogs and people.
Per gospel of Mark….It is not what goes into a man, but what comes out.
I paraphrase a truth.
Correlation is not causation.
A psychotic dude smokes weed. The weed didn’t cause the psychosis.
Etc.
I know a plethora of solid people who smoke and drink and have solid lives.
This is a recurring, and tiresome topic.
I will now roll a high test fatty and read some Dickens.
God Bless Us, Everyone, and Happy New Year.
There would be a problem separating cause and effect. It may be that people with certain types of mental health issues are drawn to pot, which creates a correlation without causing violent behaviour.
“There would be a problem separating cause and effect.”
Finally, sense from the mammal.
Let me put it this way. Despite over 100 years of governments the world over desperately seeking to prove that cannabis causes harm, the most they can come up with is “ice cream causes robberies because there are more robberies on days with high ice cream sales.”
There’s nothing. And by the way, there is no known fatal dose of cannabis. That one is worth looking up, during a time when the media idiots are starting to yell “it’ll kill ya!” No, it won’t. Doing stupid things while wasted is what kills people, another “ice cream causes robberies” correlation.
People who drink will readily acknowledge that excessive drinking is bad for individuals and society, that minors shouldn’t drink, that strict social rules around drinking are necessary to keep it from getting out of hand, and that many people can’t handle their alcohol and shouldn’t drink at all.
Stoners will never acknowledge that there could ever be any down sides to toking up all the time.
Having witnessed multiple people have full-on psychotic episodes or CHS from overindulging in weed, there are very real dangers there that need to be publicized.
Second that. Filthy reeking shit, pollutes the neighbourhood entirely.
There’s a reason there’s stereotype stoner losers. Because it’s true.
Neighbour used to have get up and go. But, he started smoking weed thanks to T2. Runs a business, but, it’s not what it could be. Smokes because “it relieves stress”.
His home is a dump in a good neighbourhood.
Out of shape molson muscle, for what used to be a strong fit fella until he became a stoner.
Yes, I smoked, but stopped 39 years ago. Too many losers and dropouts, decided I wasn’t one of them anymore. To think, today’s shit is Times stronger than then, and I was getting sticky hydro, Cambodian Gold, whatever. Got tired of feeling sick and tired, so I quit.
It’s all been clear sailing since!
There’s nothing like driving down the highway, following a car up ahead that’s lit up. Dangerous, ignorant morons, and it’s all over BC.
Worst mistake was legalizing it. We now live amongst a permanently medicated society of people who’ve chosen being stupid, as a lifestyle.
Personally, I want all skunk weed smokers who stink up public spaces to be guillotined in the very same public spaces they ruin. Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia as an example. Formerly one of the greatest public spaces in the western hemisphere, the experience of walking through or hanging out there is now totally ruined thanks to the vermin that feel the need to assault everyone within a 200 feet radius. Total aholes.
IDGAF. Smoke your disgusting psychosis inducing weed all you want. Just move to some island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
They followed your advice and came to Victoria.
No wonder downtown is a dump of losers, the permeating reek of skunk shit is everywhere.
Dear me, next Thought Criminal will want cigarette smokers at some cafe or bar patio to be beheaded.
While I appreciate all your pothead testimonials, I have a dead son who was an early dope smoker (we tried), straight-A student in 8th grade, who rapidly degenerated into a liar, thief, and was eventually institutionalized by the time he was 19yo. My other two children – perfectly normal. The one difference – marijuana. Lots of marijuana. My son ended up taking his own life 6 months after I maneuvered him OUT of our home at age 26 when he had attacked the wife and I one too many time.
I still harbor guilt for having maneuvered him OUT of our home … and then read about the Reiner kid and wonder whether I actually saved my life and my wife’s. Today’s pot is bad news. For the love of your children’s brains … do everything possible to keep them completely clear of weed.
Marijuana definitely DIDNT kill your son, your narrow mindededness, selfishness, and lack of anything resembling compassion killed him and you should be ashamed of yourself for alienating yourself from your oldest child over a plant.
I have every expectation I will be banned from this page and I welcome it after reading the disgusting testimonial of any father like Kenji.
Your dead son hates you in the afterlife . And if you don’t already know that, your family does and loathes you behind your back so much they wish you were gone instead of your son.
Methinks, there was more at play resulting in the suicide besides smoking marijuana.
KATE – PLEASE REMOVE THIS POST. GRACIAS.
Thought criminal morphs into Thought police.
nice
Disgusting comment!
Show some respect, some empathy.
Please go away from this forum!
What I displayed was respect for his son, his family, and everyone else who lost someone from suicide due to a family member that was too stubborn and stuck in their closed mind to show any real understanding or empathy.
I have zero respect for Kenji or anyone that defends him.
Use cannabis or don’t, I don’t care. But I’ll say it again. Cannabis didn’t kill your kid.
Thank you for your predictable potheadish response. You sound exactly like every pothead I’ve ever known … defending your magic weed to your dying day.
And PS … my son had a “dual diagnosis” … chemical imbalances in his brain exacerbated by pot use. Instead of taking the meds that put him in his right mind … he smoked dope … which made him an unhinged … dangerous … lunatic.
In death, I expect he regrets how he ruined his brain for a cheap, temporary high.
I’m not defending the weed, I could care less who does or doesn’t smoke it and I’m not a fan of the way it was legalized here either. At the very least, Government should not have legalized until there was an accurate way to do roadside tests for impaired driving whilst stoned.
I am a fan of common sense and compassion though, which is something you obviously lacked when your boy was still around.
You obviously still dont have any common sense, but I would like to think for the rest of your children’s sake, you have developed some compassion since then.
I’m gonna leave it there though, I have had my fill of cruelty for the day, and am gonna go enjoy my family.
peace
You have NO IDEA how much money, compassion, and care we gave our son for 17 years of adulthood after his initial commitment and diagnosis. You have no idea how we raised our kids as fully attentive parents. I won’t explain it to haters like you. Have a nice day with your children. I hope you are lucky and none of your children go out of their right minds after graduating HS. That’s the age when these things manifest themselves. You can look it up. Good luck to you.
And what other medications are these people on, I wonder. The side effects of many of these drugs also seem to be violent or suicidal thoughts. Rare? What if several million people take them? A little more common?
All I know is that when my son was on his Lithium and Abilify … he was in his right (sane) mind. He complained that the Lithium made him feel sluggish and dull minded. Some of that is simply a comparison to his manic episodes when he believed himself on top of the world. He wasn’t. He was simply unhinged.
Nevertheless, I worked hard with his Psychiatrists forcing them to modify dosage so he felt more alert and engaged. It was working well … but he kept ‘self medicating’ with pot which ruined everything pharmacology achieved for him.
Do some people go homicidal on meds? I have no doubt. However that’s NOT the experience I had with my son. BTW … my son had gone to TX to reunite with an old friend (who didn’t want anything to do with him … too unhinged and crazy). My son learned the hard way that TX ain’t CA. He caused a scene at a CVS and stole some cigarettes … was arrested, then didn’t show up for his Hearing. He was tracked down at his apartment (that I was paying for) … tried to flee the police … and was sent to Prison near Houston. By the time he was released from Prison in about 6mos. … he was properly medicated … and sounded/behaved better than he had in almost 10 years. The Prison Psychiatrists had dialed his medications in PERFECTLY. That lasted a few months as he was gainfully employed at a Cheesecake Factory where he earned “employee of the week” a couple times. But then … yes, you guessed it … he went off his meds and back onto pot … which began his slide into insanity and suicide. Psych. meds work perfectly well when administered correctly.
The majority of the posts on this topic are typical of a liberal’s emotional response to contrary facts.
Alex Berenson was the first liberal in recent memory to be cancelled because he dared to challenge conventional wisdom with FACTS. His book is a must read, and this interview with Megan is a must listen to episode. The conversation about alcohol vs pot meme is worth the time. Facts don’t care about your resume.
If you are one of those ‘please me conservatives’ with an emotional response to facts about pot, then you are just as emotionally chained to groupthink as the left.
“The majority of the posts on this topic are typical of a liberal’s emotional response to contrary facts.”
This is the thing that drives me crazy about Normies. Sorry boys, you’re being manipulated by media people who are not your friends, again, and you are going along with them. Again. Because you’re stupid.
Trump = bad or pot = bad or unvaxxed = bad, it’s all the same thing. The people telling you the eeeeeviles of the Demon Weed are the exact same a-holes that robbed us all of 2020, 2021 and 2022. Okay? Guys who are paid liars, fooling you one more time.
Should you believe some guy who says pot is bad? No. Should you believe some other guy who says pot is great? NO! You morons! Go find out! The freakin’ whole internet is right there on your f-ing phone! You can find out the facts with the click of a button.
Maybe try waking up to smell the coffee, huh?
Oh and by the way, shocker, Kenji is right. Medicated bi-polar patients should not be taking cannabis. No reputable doc would give that patient cannabis, it’s clinically contra-indicated. That means it’s bad, for the small-word people. Go look it up, you freaking lazy Normie fools.
