  1. As usual, Ottawa Citizen is out to lunch.

The “public service” doesn’t “produce” anything. They are regulators. They “regulate.” Which in Canada means they stop people from doing things.

They are extremely efficient at it, keeping the private sector from doing anything at all, pretty much. The one exception seems to be criminal enterprises which are allowed to do anything they want.

    Elbows up, dewds.

  2. Oh, we know how productive the public service is. We just can’t prove it.

But the answer is less than zero.

    Far less than zero.

  3. Nothing outside of the federal government matters in the Frozen Shithole.
    Absolutely nothing.
    Especially the citizens.
Get any public servant drunk and they’ll tell you.
Bribe any politician and they’ll tell you.
    Shithole.

  4. OK … how about this!?

If you receive a $Bonus$ as a government worker, then we get to see what you did to earn that bonus. We get to see your productivity report.

  5. A very, very bare minimum of public servants can enhance productivity. Make contracts enforceable. Facilitate air traffic control. Control the borders. Enforce vehicular safety standards and police offenders on the roads. Facilitate education.

Notice the word facilitate? That means pick a contractor and fund them in a competitive process. I’m guessing all this could be done with 5% or less of the existing workforce. Everything else is just parasitic overburden, reducing productivity, frustrating entrepreneurs,

An example: Global affairs Canada. The folks who give money to Lebanese diverse accommodations for ski soldiers, etc ,ad infinitum. Gone, from the deputy minister to the assigner of parking spaces. The government should give money outside the country, never. If citizens wish to give, so be it. There are literally hundreds of such organizations and agencies that can be eliminated. Productivity and investment would soar, given the lower taxes and less regulations that would prevail.

  6. Depends what you define as production.
Waste and destruction could be considered as products.
Government consumes the bulk of private wealth in this country and turns it into debt, destruction and waste.
    Very consistently.
Now if you define productivity as producing a product customers will voluntarily buy,as efficiently (cheaply) as possible..
Then government work has negative value..
    Very high negatives..
And when trust in government fails?
We now have even less wealth, because we have a low trust society while still having to pay for government..
Even after they fail to perform every role..
Of the acts that justify their existence..
Think of your government as a morality play,we put on for the slow learners and bandits, who we would otherwise have to shoot..
After 6 decades of failure,we might conclude the obvious..shoot your own varmits.
