  1. I’ve been to Wroclaw at least a dozen times to visit family members there and in nearby cities and towns (the last time in Sept. 2024), and it really is a marvellous place.

Also, no Muslims (well, maybe a few). All the cyclist and scooter delivery drivers are young Poles and the taxi driver are older Poles.

A couple of things the gal mentioned need further explanation. She said her family moved from Lviv (then in Eastern Poland) to Wroclaw and that the Germans in Lower Silesia moved to Germany.

Actually, the Poles who lived in Eastern Poland (including my mother’s family) were forced to move to Lower Silesia by Stalin who sliced off a large chunk of the territory and incorporated it into Ukraine and Belarus. Meanwhile the Germans were forced to vacate Lower Silesia to make room for the Poles and relocate to a redrawn Germany.

Finally, if your ear didn’t catch it, Wroclaw is pronounced Vroats-wav.

    1. I’ve heard “Wroclaw” pronounced many times and always thought it sounded more like “Rott-slav”. But I’ll ask my friends who lived there to phonetically write it out.

      1. The “l” in Wroclaw as writtten above isn’t accurate, it’s actually written with an angled hyphen across the middle and has a “w” sound.

Whereas the “w” is sounded like a “v”.

A “c” is pronounced “ts” in Polish, hence Wroc=Vroats and law= wav..

And yes, Polish does have a regular “l” that’s pronounced as in English.

          1. It’s a pronunciation nightmare when the consonants are combined, as in the city name Brzeg.

    1. Oh no! One of the hottest women to have ever lived – maybe the hottest! And IIRC – didn’t hold back when it came to criticizing the Islamization of France.

  2. Governor Gavin Newsom proclaims Dec 26 to Jan 2 as a happy Kawanzaa:

Kawanzaa is a celebration proclaimed by an anti-white extremist for U.S. blacks who still celebrated old African folk beliefs and rejected Christianity and Judaism. No African country celebrates this U.S. holiday. Kawanzaa celebrations have declined over the years. The crackpot who invented spent time in jail for burglary.

Bill C-12, or Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, includes many changes around border security along with new ineligibility rules for refugee claimants.

Uh-huh. What aren’t they saying? What are we missing?
