WASHINGTON — Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened Friday to yank $73 million in federal highway funding meant for New York after an audit found more than half of the Empire State’s commercial trucking licenses were issued to foreign-born drivers in the US illegally.
“What New York does is if an applicant comes in and they have a work authorization — for 30 days, 60 days, one year — New York automatically issues them an eight-year commercial driver’s license,” Duffy said during a press conference at DOT headquarters in DC Friday. “That’s contrary to the law.”
“But we also found that New York many times won’t even verify whether they have a work authorization, they have a visa, or they’re in the country legally,” he added.

When I saw reporting earlier this year that “American-born workers see significant job gains as foreign-born employment drops” (Fox News, 7/7/25), I said to myself “I know Joe Biden and the Democrats really hate the country and all, but would they really go so blatantly/maliciously out of their way to intentionally screw over native born Americans? I mean, if it’s revealed they’re doing this, they risk electoral blowback, right? Are they really this stupid?!?!” We have our answer! The in-your-face, thumb-in-your-eye depravity is just jaw dropping. This party has to be destroyed.

Why just “threatened to pull” and not “will pull” considering the transgression seems very obvious.
I’ve seen this formulation regarding other major violations coming from other Trump officials and even Trump himself, and then almost nothing happens.

My interpretation: Lest Sean Duffy actually take action BEFORE the DOJ provides the solid legal backing for such a cancellation of Federal Funds … he will just publicize the outrageous conduct of NY and CA’s licensing of illegal, unqualified truck drivers.
You know that as soon as Duffy cuts off the funding … the DOT action will be sued in Federal (NY) Court … with an immediate restraining order that ensures the money keeps flowing.
The process is the punishment. The leftist courts will Legislate! Restraining the duly elected Trump Admin. from getting anything done that’s in the interest of the American people.
Redirect the funding to enforcement on New York Plated Trucks.
Don’t worry New York state. A Democrat activist judge will help with that.
Is their driving record any worse than those of American citizens with a CDL? If not, the Feds are just prosecuting some more victimless crimes.
