Echo Chamber

Only customers with obsessive compulsive disorder would be bothered by any strike. The rest will just buy their latte at the myriad of coffee shops that can be found down the street from every Starbucks.

Starbucks Workers United said stores in 45 cities would be impacted, including New York, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Diego, St. Louis, Dallas, Columbus, Ohio, and Starbucks’ home city of Seattle. There is no date set for the strike to end, and more stores are prepared to join if Starbucks doesn’t reach a contract agreement with the union, organizers said.

  1. Why doesn’t the union open its own coffee chain and hire its own members?

I’m sure the American teachers union would put up money.

Mamdummy of NYC would provide buildings rent free.

  2. Say what now? Starf*cks baristas have a union? Aren’t they too dumb for something like that?

  3. I started my own personal strike against Starbucks way back in 1971.

When the radio waves were playing Canadian music like The Stampeders – Sweet City Woman

That was a long, long, time ago … which reminds me of another 1971 tune …

Yes, IMHO 1971 was the single greatest year in rock music history. A literal firehose of memorable innovative music across all genres. Oh yeah … and it was the year Starbucks was founded. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all.

    1. Yeah, 1971 was quite a year for seminal albums.

        1. Damn, Kenji, you just itemized a good chunk of my collection. I bought a lot of them from soon-to-be-starving university students who blew through their parents’ funding and had to sell almost virgin vinyl LPs at serious discount. I have some Frank Zappa discs ( I have his autograph), and as a good Canadian boy, some Rush titles.
          Live long and prosper.
p.s. – When Nazareth played the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada arena in the mid 70’s, Dan McCafferty asked if there were any Frank Zappa fans in the crowd, and I screamed “Yes”; he dedicated “Road Ladies” to me.

          1. Good story, Captain.
Kenji…your list gave me my long awaited acid flashback.
I just watched YES in their latter days, playing Roundabout, with Geddy Lee covering the bass for RIP Chris Squires. Howe and Wakeman still did it. Too bad Bruford wasn’t on the drums, but White covered it.
Close to the edge….blotto daze, yo.

      1. MikeT,
April Wine played at my old high school gym back then.
I smoked some hash in the parking lot, then hung out and watched the guitar guy.
Oh, and believe it or not, but Dr. Music also did a high school gig back then.
        Good daze back then.

    1. not Battlestar Galatica? or the movie about the guy who fathered 533 children through sperm donation?

  4. A Starbucks with a union is a Starbucks going bankrupt. The market is too competitive for a union store to survive.
