Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ruth Underwood was HOT and talented.
My fave Zappa ensemble, with George Duke on keys and Napoleon Murphy Brock on sax and weird vocals.
Oh, and Frank’s solo on that tune was one of his best, measured out by the smoke impaled on his E string.
Thanks, Francisco, from this Zappa fan
The Snowbirds just flew up ahead as part of their pre-fireworks thingy tonight in Vancouver. I spent many years in so-cal and the roar of a jet engine up above is kind of second nature!
I do! I do! Very nice …
However, as I’ve posted before … I absolutely adore the Violent Femmes Gone Daddy Gone. A quirky pop punk tune that is … well … simply catchy to the ear. I admit, I’m a pop-Rock aficionado… so anything with a pop sensibility … be it punk, alternative, prog. or classic Rock resonates with me. I love rhythm, melody and great musical hooks. . Not only do I adore the xylophone throughout this tune (played by the band’s bass player), but I am a massive fan of discordant guitar used extensively in alt. Rock … and featured beautifully here.

I didn’t go, but I think Violent Femmes were here in Calgary 2 weeks ago… still touring, live music.

Used to mark the spot for “Night Music” 1988-90 with Jools Holland and David Sandborn, where I first saw Modern Jazz Quartet, I’d never considered the xylophone as something I liked to listen to, but that changed with both this and the Violent Femmes.
I have the MOFI Modern Jazz Quartet lp …

Yes, the Femmes were playing in easy earshot of my balcony. They were quite good, though not as impressive as 54-40 a couple of nights earlier.
