Circling The Drain

In addition to the many reasons why DOGE failed, I would add this: John Q. Voter likes deficit spending and he will punish nearly any politician who begs to differ.

“The federal government is not a business, and the executive branch has very limited authority with respect to spending,” explained Ditch. “While there is tremendous waste and dysfunction within the federal budget, the largest problem is the government doing too many things it shouldn’t and subsidizing nearly everything under the sun. Congress has primary responsibility for the size, scope, and spending of the federal government.”

  1. I note your source for “Circling the Drain” is a fellow named David Ditch. Who, frankly, sounds authoritative in this. Though frankly, he should leave government and find his true calling in the bottled water business. “Ditch Water! Not as dull as you think!”” I’d buy it.

  2. The Fed is installing Italian beehives on the roof of their $2.5B renovation

The Wall Street Journal revealed in March 2023 that its basement now hosts the Fed’s private art collection, while a pair of Italian beehives were installed on the roof. The expensive makeover is controversial after the Fed posted operating losses of $77.5 billion last year.

DOGE didn’t even scratch the surface of government WASTE and unnecessary extravagance. Sadly … far too many US companies are feeding at the Federal cash trough.

    1. Are they luxury Italian beehives, or just Italian honeybees?…because Italian bees are pretty common among beekeepers. Just a breed of bee. Low aggression, easy to handle, good honey production…

      1. Not sure … but why is it the business of the FED to become Beekeepers? Were they “inspired” by the entertaining film … The Beekeeper?

A former operative of a powerful organization embarks on a brutal campaign for vengeance.

Does the FED consider themselves superheroes bent on vengeance against the BadOrangeman? Thus causing massive collateral damage to all the little people desperately paying usurious interest rates … making banks filthy $$rich$$ and the little people suicidally destitute? Is THAT how the Fed envisions their two symbolic hives on the roof?

  3. Deficit spending outside of war is theft.
As much as Americans think their the free-enterprise beacon in the dark Marxist world, they too have become a socialist shithole in many ways.
Not advocating, but until the citizenry revolts, the stealing will continue.

  4. A hundred years from now the collapse of the Soviet Union will probably be attributed to Islam.
    (Afghanistan war 1979-1989)

In 100 years the collapse of the United States will be probably be attributed to Islam. (Afghanistan war 2001-2021).

Islam will be the biggest religion in the world in 100 years.

      1. How did that Yeats poem go? The Second Coming…
Something slouches towards Bethlehem waiting to be born….because the centre did not hold.
        ETC.
DOGE is a joke, just like everything going down in Murica.
        Musk as the new Perot.
        Purrfect horse manure.
Piss off everything. you, too, evil In Carneyate.
        Have a nice day,

    1. Don’t get me started on “medicinal marijuana” as an official government Obamakkare sanctioned prescription for everything from “boredom” to “depression”. Yeah … THIS is what happens when THE GOVERNMENT starts sanctioning and certifying medical decisions.

  5. The idea that some unit can descend on a government department, make snap decisions about where the inefficiencies lie, correct the problem, and then move on to the next, was never a credible plan. The odds are that such an entity would do far more damage than good.

    1. Well if DOGE did nothing else … it lifted the lid on USAID … which is now being disinfected of every crazed leftist ideologue spreading the most dystopian of American Ffffagggg culture around the planet.

    2. Unless you are Argentina. Not desperate enough is apparently a thing. Why do people have to have their backs against the wall to snap out of it?

Jean Chretien proved it could be done. Every department, 10% reduction.

      1. He just downloaded most of the practical fallout onto the provinces.

Nevertheless it did get done and balanced the budget. Ten years later it didn’t matter.

        Democracy is the problem.

          1. Indeed. Isn’t there an old song about it: “Bottle of wine, fruit of ovine, when you gonna let me get sober?”

  6. There are few solutions, and it is unknown whether any will work.

The only workable path is return to Constitutional governance. If a program, agency, or policy cannot be traced to an explicit constitutional power of Congress, then it is unconstitutional at its face and must be eliminated.

Alexander Hamilton poisoned the Federal Government at the very beginning with the idea of implied powers. The Anti-Federalists, who would become the Democratic and Republican Parties, rose against the concept of implied powers. Once they had control, they were corrupted by the very thing they opposed, as they found implied powers to be a faster, more convenient means to pursue their agendas.
