Douglas Murray- Who really built this country?
Anyone who has visited Canada or Australia in recent years might have noticed an interesting new tradition. This is the trend for issuing a ‘land acknowledgement’ at the start of any public event. Before discussion gets under way, some bureaucrat or other will get up and note that we are all fortunate enough to be on the land of X, and then garble the name of some not-especially-ancient tribe. The moment gives everyone a feeling of deep meaning and naturally achieves nothing.

I love land acknowledgments, they are a low key brag on all the stuff we conquered from them and they are whining to have back.

If King Charles and Mark Carnage are so enamoured with native traditions, they should live in animal tents, and walk everywhere for one year.
This would have the added benefit (?) of generating less CO2.
Giving a land acknowledgment is the best way to declare you are wilfully ignorant of history.
Immigrants didn’t build this city! This city was built on Rock and Roll!

Fil analyzes … “The Worst Song of all time”. And it is. It is a dreadful song about a topic that’s spot on. Rock and Roll DID build San Francisco. Fillmore West, Longshoreman’s Hall, Winterland, Slims, The Great American Music Hall, The Warfield, Bottom of the Hill. And Rock built Haight Ashbury … the epicenter of 60’s-70’s Rock culture. But what a nasty AM radio song to point out this CORRECT history.
And the Wiskey a go-go!

RIP Val Kilmer … absolutely brilliant portrayal.
If the land is ‘stolen’ they should give it back. If it isn’t, they should STFU.
I have a relative who a few years ago was droning on and on about the stolen land crap. I told her there was a simple way she could sooth her white guilt. Go to the library and find out what tribe roamed here when the first ship landed on Canadian shores. Seek out the current local tribe and council and sign over the title to her condo. I was met with a snippy, “Well I’m not going to do that”. Of course not. When I questioned where the reparations money should come from, “government” of course was her response. Need I add that same relative “works” for a federal government department and is pissing and moaning that she is now required to spend a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. She swallowed the covid crap like all the other good socialist automatons and was thrilled over the truckers arrests. At any given time during regular “working hours”, she either on Facebook (I see the little green light next to her name, indicating she’s online) or ordering Chinese crap off Amazon. She is also big on awareness ribbons for the latest cause du jour. Although not intentional, I think I may have just defined the average Canadian.
My sister in Law has banned me from any contact with her or her extended family (my Nieces and their kids) … because I might “infect them” with my … “right wing hooey … that sure stunk up the joint”

She is your worst caricature of a left wing psychotic toxic female on hormone blockers.
Oh well … it’s an ultra cool Steely Dan groove anyway
This same person was totally shocked that we vote conservative given my wife works in the school system. She also expressed her concern to my wife that I support Trump’s policies. It’s almost as if she wanted to stage an intervention! Hilarious!
My wife just retired from teaching … and steadfastly refused to ever participate in a “land acknowledgement” or to announce and post her pronouns. She got OUT just in time.
Men in denim built this country. Pissants in suits have destroyed it.
We have regular land acknowledgments at the public library in Calgary, and I’ve never found them objectionable. Partly because, in the form regularly used, they make no claims or even suggestions of illegality, wrongdoing or guilt on the part of the white guys, which is not the sort of thing one should countenance. And partly because Calgary really is a reservation town and the local natives are part of the historic community, and not part of the incoming detritus, and deserve some regard in a way that natives in other centres might not. And partly because historically this really was Blackfoot country and they played a vital role in preserving and protecting it, which deserves recognition. I have to doubt that I’d be so relaxed about it if I were back in Manitoba or down east, where the history was very different. And I’d walk out if somebody pulled the kind of crap the King pulled in Ottawa. Unceded land, indeed an incitement to onanism…
