  1. But, but, but … the unknown girl actors have to be PAID the same wages as Tim Cruise, Keanu Reeves, and Tom Hardy … right? Equity … or something. And if the actress is brownish? Even MORE $$$

  2. Chicks don’t want to watch them either.
    Kinda like women’s hockey.
No body checking and they still can’t score.
    And apparently women play basketball.
    Who knew?

  3. Fans have been screaming this for 25-30 years.

Scrawny fashion girl CANNOT sidekick Huge Dude through a wall. Can’t. Do it. And everybody knows it. We’ve been saying it since Tomb Raider.

And now they’ve finally dissed the fans for a full generation. Kids going to the movies now do not remember movies of the 1980s and 90s, they are not reading the comics or the books produced by American publishers and Hollywood. Most of all they are not watching the movies and cartoons for Hollywood, they just don’t care about the stories or the characters, and they’re not listening to the music.

What -are- they doing? They’re buying manga, watching anime and Koran movies/TV on streaming, watching YouTube, gaming, listening to K-Pop, and going to K-Pop themed dances and events. And Anime Expo. That’s what the hippest of the hip are doing in Toronto. None of them give a f- about Hollywood. At all.

Critical Drinker is like a freakin’ prophet of our time, and all he does is watch the trailers and observe the reactions on social media. This is not rocket surgery, right? But Hollyweird can’t figure it out.

That’s not better. The anime -> trans pipeline is very real, and cons are now year-round Sexy Halloween for 16-year-old girls.

Remember that this stuff is Japan’s Hollywood, and they’re having their own problems with it. A Japanese MP opined in public a week or two back that isekai needed to be banned because so many teenagers were behaving suicidally in hopes of reincarnating into their favourite video game.

K-drama and K-pop isn’t the answer either, unless you think the salvation of the West is everything being live-action Jem and the Holograms and effeminate boy bands.

The problem is that there is no real culture worth being proud of being produced by any Western nation. The Critical Drinker is just tarting up freshman film crit and disaffected nerdrage in Dudley Moore’s Arthur schtick and peddling it to Gen-Xers who have been watching children’s entertainment their entire adult lives. Yeah, most current pop culture is shit. Most pop culture has always been shit, and it’s always had The Message. It’s just that most Gen-Xers and Millennials have no idea what was happening in the world before they turned 15 or so, so they don’t recognize it.

[sigh] See, this is why people don’t like Conservatives, Mr Ream. All those darn kids out there having fun wrong. They should do it properly! God, and Country!

And the “trans pipeline?” Dude. Worry more about your doctor than the comics. Canadian Medical Association supports puberty blockers for three year olds.

“A Japanese MP opined in public a week or two back that isekai needed to be banned…”

Yeah, about that. Why, oh why, would you think for even one second that a Japanese politician would be more trustworthy than a Canadian politician? They’re worse if anything. Japanese teenagers are suicidal because A) they can’t get jobs, B) they can’t get laid, C) they know they’re -never- going to be married, and D) because their government tries to blame things like teen suicide on CARTOONS.

Freedom is -free-, Mr. Ream. Yes it is true, Japanese media have their own messages, not all of which are entirely wholesome like 3% milk. But at least the 16 year olds playing dress-up and LARPing at conventions are having fun pretending “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” and not running around like Gretta the Doom Goblin pretending they care about #HamAss.

        So, could be worse.

        1. Dude, if you think 16 year old girls cosplaying as Poison Ivy by wearing a strand of ivy – and nothing else – at conventions heavily populated by socially dysfunctional 30+ men is harmless fun I don’t know what to tell you.

The F/SF con scene has had massive problems with s*x*al assault and PDF files since its inception, but the culture covers it up. Now that all this stuff has gone mainstream it’s ten times worse, and people like you whining about “having fun wrong” are part of the problem.

Japan’s mores for fan service in its pop culture are very, very different from most Western nations. Cross-dressing, gender-swapping, and the s*x*alization of children are par for the course in anime. If you think children aren’t affected by the media they consume, I don’t know what to tell you. Do you think 12 year olds ought to be consuming hardcore p*rn*graphy? How about softcore? What about drag queen story hour?

          1. “…if you think 16 year old girls cosplaying as Poison Ivy by wearing a strand of ivy – and nothing else – at conventions heavily populated by socially dysfunctional 30+ men is harmless fun I don’t know what to tell you.”

I think A) I’ve never seen that at a convention and neither have you, and B) running around yelling about the evil effects of anime makes you look like an idiot. Particularly when all the hardcore any kid can manage is in his pocket on his phone.

You seem old enough to remember when the Perpetually Offended were absolutely -sure- that video games caused violence. And they did all kinds of “research” to try and prove it was true, remember that? And then, eventually, turned out that no, video games don’t do squat. Zero effect.

You are doing exactly the same thing, but with anime. It’s -stupid- and you should stop doing it.

If you don’t like the way SF/F is written and you don’t like the stories on offer, go write your own. That’s what I do.

      1. Do they still consider those ‘uniforms’? Watched a game once.. dont recall the score….

        1. Other than the inevitable sandygina … I enjoy the *ahem* complete butt cheek reveal
