Art Of The Deal

National Post- Trump says Canada’s Golden Dome membership costs $61 billion — or free as 51st state

In a post to Truth Social, he said the cost to join in the “fabulous Golden Dome System” — the multilayered missile defence program to counter foreign threats to America, even those coming from space — would be US$61 billion should Canada choose to remain “a separate, but unequal, Nation.”

But join the U.S. as its “cherished 51st state” and protection from the defence program will cost Canada “zero dollars.”

“They are considering the offer,” Trump wrote.

  1. New Nor’China is able to negotiate their own nuclear free agreement with the mother country.

  2. The history of building complex military systems does not lend itself to optimism. I’d lay odds that Golden Dome, if attempted, would end up costing over a trillion dollars and take over a decade. There’s a reasonable chance that it would be a complete failure, abandoned due to technical failures and cost overruns.

    1. Seems to be working for Israel. You have any better ideas?
Canada hardly has a fighting force.
      What sling shots for everyone.

      1. There might be a slight size difference between Israel and the USA that could be a factor here, you pinhead

        1. There might be a slight DISTANCE-to-TARGET problem for America’s enemies not present in the ME. Israel is quite close to Lebanon, Gaza, The West Bank … even Yemen and Iran. Makes defending her even harder. The US enjoys wonderful clearances to our enemies.

That is … until the ChiComs use Canada as their base of missile operations.

    2. You’re thinking of Reagan’s Star Wars program, which was never intended to do anything but bankrupt the Soviets, and did that job very well.

Every fighter jet is a “complex military system”, and the US has a history of producing pretty good ones. Their biggest challenge will be the metric-Imperial conversion at the interface points.

  3. The mere mention of “missile defence” was taboo in Canada for a long time. Even relatively short ranged Patriot systems were not welcome to any exercises held on Canadian soil. As for strategic missile attacks (ICBMs, long range cruise missiles), the concept of defending citizens against nuclear slaughter is deemed (by Liberals) to be a dangerous step that would destabilize the concept of mutual assured destruction. One could argue that a government’s first priority is defending its citizens and that if you have the technology, it would be immoral NOT to try and do so. But SOME governments only sees citizens as tax cows I guess. Having them held hostage is totally OK.

Anyways, to every deal offer there is a counter offer. The US need Canadian real estate to install detection equipment and ideally silos to house missiles. Etc. The offer is not out of Trump’s kindness. How about a lease? I think $61 billions sounds about right. A pittance for the Pentagon. For a 5 year lease. Renegotiable. Tied to tariffs. And pipeline pass-through the US – so we can give the fingers to greedy provinces or first nations.

    1. Good idea. I sort of had the same thought but not specific to Golden Dome as it had not been announced when I was thinking about this. Canada “leases” Arctic bases similar to the agreement that the US has with Greenland. In return we get favored treatment on tariff (and I like the idea of pipeline pass through}.

To be real we have no ability whatsoever to “defend” the Arctic and trying to arm up to do this would cost us a fortune. So we “lease” away completely useless and barren land. Its a win win. The US gets Arctic protection and we get access to US markets. (BTW, I think the Europe thing that Carney is proposing is completely useless and delusional.

      1. The arctic has a whole bunch of oil and minerals, that Canada has no chance to actually exploit, since our government is hostile to any profitable projects.

That and they seem to have the brilliant idea to buy Diesel subs to defend the Arctic.

        1. They are under the delusion that the ice will melt I guess. A squadron or two of large drones (such as the MQ-4C Triton) would do the job just fine. Arm them with some Harpoons. The useless offshore patrol vessels could do the boardings, because the Navy likes to board ships. A sub can patrol 400 miles a day. Maybe. A drone can patrol 400 miles an hour. And doesn’t need a large crew.

  4. Don’t be silly. Canada doesn’t need a militaristic dome. Canada is a post-National, post-Militaristic, peaceful place. The people are all “nice”. And “nice” people don’t have enemies. Mother Turtle can defend herself. She has a hard shell … something of her own golden dome.

Oh … that silly old baddy Orange man!

  5. Please. The Chicoms will just hide nukes in any of the millions of containers that come into North American ports (both in Canada and the U.S.) every year. In fact they’re probably pre-positioned already. The morons in the West (traitors, really) who decided to open up our markets to these mass murdering communist demons should be hung like Mussolini.

  6. I don’t believe taxpayers in 51st state Canada will get it free when taxpayers in the rest of the US will have to pay taxes for it. Or that it will come in on time and on budget.
Nothing is free from any government.

  7. Why pay? There is nothing worth nuking or conquering in this communist wasteland.

  8. Canada should start negotiating a defence agreement with Russia and China. It would be a lot cheaper and likely pretty effective.

    1. Russia? YES. China? Not so much. They are just to weird and creepy – like the Japanese.

Russia: Christian, neo-European, gorgeous women, cold winters, hockey, ice fishing, skidooing, saunas (real Russian saunas … 100 deg … . … centigrade!), superb food, vodka, skiing. Yes. Russia is a natural fit for Canada. China? Heck no.

  9. 61B? That’s chump change for a Liberal. Find a way for Brookfield to make money on it and the legislation will be given royal assent before tea time.

  10. $61 billion for the American military industrial complex.

Add $12 billion to translate all the documentation into French.

Add another $15 billion for Liberal consultants.

  11. My conspiracy theory:
I think the Americans – not Trump – told the Liberals to get rid of PM Fagboy or else.
    And install Carney.
I think they know shit’s about to get real.
How close or far away “about” is, I don’t know, but maybe Carnage and a few Liberals have been enlightened since they “won” re-election.

The “dome” could be militarizing space and that could be problematic, but the Russians and Chicoms don’t believe rules apply to them.

  12. The Golden Dome. Trillions of dollars to defend what areas of the US against whom?

How would one bypass the Golden Dome; aka as the American Maginot Line?

    Some possibilities:
    a) smuggle bombs in containers
    b) put bombs in commercial airplanes
    c) plant a pilot in a cargo airplane and crash it
    d) deploy drones to attack US power grid, or oil refineries, LNG plants, etc.
    e) truck bomb on a bridge
    f) derail a commuter train on a bridge
    g) sniper terror attacks
    h) hijack an oil tanker, and crash it into a harbour.

    I’m sure there are others.

    1. The real issue is the Houthis and North Koreans launching cruise missiles at North America from ocean vessels: the old “Armed Merchant Cruiser” trick from days past.

  13. Dear Comrades Kim and Xi

Please set your first strike coordinates to

    Latitude: 45° 25′ 29.31″ N
    Longitude: -75° 41′ 57.24″ W

    Thank you

    1. Shouldn’t you delete the minus sign if you are using “W”.

Or are you wanting to blow up Almaty?

  14. L – People, who have never negotiated anything in their life; which is many or most Canadians, are often overwhelmed by the very idea of thinking for themselves. For a generation or more,
Canadians have been taught that critical thought is impolite, because…well, it is critical !

As for me, I’m offended by both ignorance, stupidity and hubris.

  15. Trump learned from the best.

Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defence Initiative, according to all pinkos and Joe Biden specifically (1986),
… “constitutes one of the most reckless and irresponsible acts in the history of modern statecraft.”

It needn’t be built, dumbass Joe, it merely led the Soviets strait into bankruptcy,
since they “wouldn’t be left behind in the Star Wars race!”
    What a maroon.

Riddle: How did the USSR collapse?
    A: Ronald’s Ray-Gun.

    1. Spend trillions on missile defence?

For a few thousand dollars you can take out an oil refinery by hitting one or more distillation columns.

  16. Great to hear DJT talking about the 51st State again.

Any bets on how long before Carney becomes “Governor Carney”?
