Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

That was fun, Francisco, Chet and Boots.
Chet was one of the best innovators ever, as many guitar guys would acknowledge.

Man … what touch and feel for the frenetic rhythm! Sounds like Denny Dias in the studio.
A more recent, higher-energy version of that tune, with Andre Rieu and his orchestra:

Who was that on the piano?

Thanks, guys. I had never heard of him, but he was really good. One of those people whose work you hear everywhere, but doesn’t necessarily get the recognition for it…
Might be the first time I’ve ever heard that song outside of a cartoon chase.
The Floyd Cramer 45 must have been for old folk as the label says “new orthophonic” and was produced by Chet Atkins….
Chat did a great spinoff version of that called “Yakkety Axe” in the 1990 collaboration album “Neck and Neck” with Mark Knoepfler, an amazing CD. Chet was a brilliant musician and producer and his recordings with Jerry Reed – another phenomenal finger-picker – are fantastic (watch their live version of “Jerry’s Breakdown” on YouTube).
There are many incredible guitarists out there but Chet Atkins was one-of-a-kind.

There’s another good rendition of this out there with Chet and Boots AND Ray Stevens on piano:
(How old do you have to be to know of Ray Stevens?)

I heard an interview with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame. He said that Chet Atkins invited Mark to his house one night for a jam session. After Mark and Chet had jammed for a bit Chet phoned a couple of friends to come over and jam with them. The two friends were Boots Randolf on sax and Floyd Cramer on piano.
Lots of people liked Chet. Do you remember this one?
