  1. Nice to see some concrete action on this. Long overdue. I do not see any other way to get respect from the Liberal government.

    1. Linda, you will never get respect, you may get acquiescence if the stakes are high enough, but never respect. Upper Canadians don’t do that.

      1. exactly peter you define the situation. l got a buddy in Calgary beckoning me.
if there was a rule today regarding length of Alberta provincial citizenship to be then included in the Alberta nation citizenship l wd move a.s.a.p.

  2. I’m fine with this as a start.
If the AB Gov’t were to say, “we are separating” and it wasn’t obvious that we’d set out some last ditch examples of what we demand as our rights here, the other side would say the separatists of AB didn’t even try.

Even while we tolerated their crap for decades and were repeatedly punched in the mouth by them.

So set up the requirements, which are entirely not controversial in normal countries, and stand firm in them while the federal gov’t does its best to ignore them (remember when we last voted for a Senator here and were 100% ignored by Trudeau, then we voted on a demand to re-negotiate the equalisation formula and were ignored again) … then we can set the wheels in motion. Then the naysayers of separatism can see that yet again, we’ve been pushed away by the federal gov’t.

I know of a guy who lives south of AB who negotiates differently. Perhaps Marx Carnage will show us next week, all of his negotiating skills he’s picked up from Oxford, show us how it is done, lol…

Maybe The President of the United States will show Marx Carnage (right in the middle of negotiations), with the aid of Ms Bondi, if they have compromising photos of him visiting Mr. Epstein. You remember when the FBI took 11 minutes? for their safe cracking team to access Mr. Epstein’s secure safe. And then they emptied it of the photos and videos contents… there wasn’t anywhere in the house which wasn’t under video watch.
    lol…

    1. As usual, Marc has said pretty much everything that needs to be said.
Tomorrow’s meeting between POTUS and the Greatest Economist Ever (TM) will be a landmark moment.
Maybe Trump and Carney are pals because Carney bailed Trump’s son-in-law out
Maybe Trump has the goods on Carney and Epstein. Maybe there are no goods on Carney and Epstein!
Maybe Carney can convince Trump that he should leave canaduh alone. Maybe monkeys might fly out of my…ahem.
Maybe this is just a Trump negotiating ploy. Maybe Trump is just a class one troll
There are so many things that we don’t know and will certainly never be privy to.
If I can hope for one thing that would put a little smile on my face is if Trump told Carney to be rid of Supply Management by noon on Wednesday or else….That would certainly put the Greatest Economist Ever (TM) in a very tough place
Now Marc, I do need to ask a favour. Do you have a link for the referendum petition? I don’t do the X or the Facebook or any of the other social media things so if you could help a brother out?

      1. Here it is Chris:

        https://albertaprosperityproject-albertafirstpension.nationbuilder.com

I think this is the.. “signing to indicate the support for a question on a referendum for separation”
and this is NOT the actual referendum, as details need be settled, the actual and final question for example.
The SCOC did say the question must be clear, the result must be 50% +1 in order to carry the motion.
No asking, “Do you not support separating from Canada or do you?”
In 1970, Port Arthur – Fort William decided to amalgamate under one municipal gov’t and changing the name was paramount. The choices on the ballot were, Thunder Bay, Lakehead, and The Lakehead.
The 2 Lakeheads split the vote, and Tbay it is.
        Clarity.
I did receive a phone call this afternoon from the AI voice of the Republican Party of Alberta asking if I’d support this, and normally I don’t get too many phone calls from political surveyors. I don’t know who in the UCP sold/gave my phone number to them, but I was nice.

        1. Thanks Marc, I new about that one. I thought the “Take Back Alberta” one was supposed to be more formal and further along. What needs to happen is a founding convention so that we don’t have a whole bunch of disparate groups running around trying to do essentially the same thing.

I too have received the Alberta Republican ad through Rebel News. I don’t support republicanism (Maybe when I write the book I’ve been promising to do I’ll explain why ;-)) The very last thing we need is a split in the vote to allow the villainous NDP to ever come to power in Alberta again.

My Grandmother was born in Fort William – way before it amalgamated. Way before Alberta became a Province!

  3. Good speech…however, it’s been more than just the “past 10 years”. Sure that’s all those under 30 have the political awareness of. But a little digging into history and it’s very obvious why all political protest movements are born in the west as far back as the 20’s.
But let’s go back just through the Harper years where the man left 23 senators for Justin to appoint!! Nothing happens by accident.

No, the CON-federation needs to be re-constituted to become more a republic with an elected effective and equal senate. And we don’t need 100 of them! Abolish equalization which is entrenched and more. This will only happen at the constitutional table with determined western premiers and the threat (hammer) of separation.

    1. Those “30-somethings” may have vivid memories of their parents having to sell the house, the car, massive cutbacks on all consumables their parents provided for them… because of the NEP. Remember what Energy Minister Marc Lalonde said about the NEP … “we know what we’re doing, we really do”.

Rest in hell you piece of shit.

      1. Older than that and I remember 20% interest rates too, and lining up for fuel..

    2. And don’t forget that she sold out the Wildrose Alliance once before. Nice words now, but I still don’t believe her because of that.

      1. People can change and improve. Danielle’s 7 year stint as a radio talk show host taught her a lot, and she apologized publicly many many times for her mistake in how she handled the Wildrose affair. I give her credit for that. I certainly trust her more than any liberal.

        1. Your mileage has varied from mine. A year or two into her radio career i heard her cut off a “denier” without listening to anything the caller had to say because they disagreed with all right-thinkjng people. I can’t recall if she called upon the Holy Consensus. I didn’t listen again.

I trust someone who has never been a turncoat more than someone whose beliefs have been inconsistent. She’s saying the right things now, just like she did as head of Wildrose. And if she turns coats this time it’s to leap to federal politics with something valuable (Alberta stifling separation) to trade. Trust her all you like. I won’t. Paul spent the rest of his life repenting, in far worse circumstances than Danielle.

  4. 1. Does the Liberal government have access to the names of petitioners for a referendum? Are those petitioners at risk of having their bank accounts frozen? Or worse?
    2. Canadians don’t need to worry abput losing sovereignty to the USA; it’s far more likely that Carney with his Liberals will cede more of Canada’s sovereignty to the United Nations.

    1. Agree with concerns. Sad but true, 2025 Canada under Liberal Rule. Leave it at that.

  5. 50% + 1 and declare independence. Then negotiate. We trade overflying and railway access for pipeline rights of way and port access. National debt? Doesn’t sound like Alberta’s problem. If any provinces join Alberta the new federal government to have a tiny list of permissible duties and no presumed sovereignty over the provinces. Any territories would have to agree to maximize extraction of resources so they are not welfare cases.

    1. Exactly correct on the order of separation – negotiation. If there’s a call to negotiate first, separate later, our grandchildren will be negotiating the terms before we actually separate.
Why… the federal gov’t will have planted 2 billion trees before we can separate.

      That’s the federal gov’t way, that’s the #Librano way.

  6. William Aberhart quote- Alberta premier from about a hundred years ago. It was on a bit of a different topic but the punchline still applies to the current situation in Alberta.

“If you have not suffered enough, it is your God-given right to suffer more. But if you wish to elect your own representatives to implement the remedy, this is your only way out.”

    1. But there’s the catch-22, they can’t afford to grant the “you are our equals” that Alberta and Saskatchewan ( and the bits of BC that are beyond Hope) will demand.

    2. Upper and Lower Canada can operate without the West. It isn’t U & L Canada that is protecting their interests by screwing the West. It’s the family compact centered in U&L Canada in alliance with their totalitarian operatives that screw the West. This unholy alliance also keeps U & L Canada’s resources in the ground. For example, L Canada has had natural gas effervescing in La Mauricie since the Devil came fell from heaven. The University of Trois Riviere even acknowleges the abundance of them in point six of this gem:
      https://oraprdnt.uqtr.uquebec.ca/portail/gscw031?owa_no_site=1456&owa_no_fiche=3

Screwing the West is all about keeping the power concentrated to a very few. Maybe there is an opportunity to change it. Don’t lose hope. Try to do better. The fight going on now is an extension of the fight Riel fought. It has more to do about the balance of power than about race. In the end all power is in God’s hand and only those that do his will are fighting the true fight. Carney says he is a Christian. God’s judgement on that will be delivered through his Son in God’s time. Unfortunately, because Carney’s a politician Canadians must judge with much less knowledge. Trump, the Great Disruptor, may shake loose a few kernels of truth. I pray so!

    1. Shaddup.
So she has a beard and bigger balls than the rest of Canada’s gelded little poofs.
      Thank God for that.
Oh, and as to C minor above reminding us of her sell out in the wild rose years,,,people change and grow.

      1. Leopards change their spots all the time. I think “fool me once, shame on you” should apply.

  7. Hey Carney, there’s a one two punch, Trumps tomorrow and Premier Smith to deal with. Lets see how the effete little Eurocrat handles this, lol.

      1. We don’t want to hear about your games of chess and checkers, the adults are talking about politics.

        1. Dumb delusional adults are sharing dumb delusional fantasies. I am the reality check.

          1. You miss-spelled “comic relief”. You’ve been a parody account here for years. Your questions have improved, true, but there’s still the fundamental misunderstanding of how our side thinks.

          2. You and your type always assume that as long as the band is playjng it is best to stay on the deck of the Titanic. Then one day you wake up and your country has morphed into Lebanon.

          3. We’ve seen your posts. You are as far from reality as I’ve ever seen, which is why I named you “UnReal.”

          4. You’re a mountain of skulls promoter. You know that but you forgive yourself like all “good” comrades do.

          5. You’re the reality check? You have insufficient funds. And your bank has crashed.

  8. More performative BS. The only thing she’s going to accomplish is a flop of a separation referendum followed by Premier Nenshi.

    1. Unfortunately, there may be some minuscule molecule of truth to what UnReal is saying.
My sense is that the Separation momentum is slowing. That was as far from an impressive rally this past weekend at the legislature as you can get. I’ve already seen infighting among the separatist organizations. There still isn’t a leader, and the birth of the “Alberta Republican Party” is something we really didn’t need right now.
All that being said, Premier Smith must understand that her priority objective is to protect the interests and the welfare of Albertans. If she can somehow maneuver the push toward separation into negotiating a successful deal that would satisfy Albertans and keep Alberta within confederation, I will support that.
However, the reaction to her speech today from the so-called journalists back east is not at all encouraging.
They’re setting Premier Smith up as some kind of pariah — falling short of calling her a traitor to Canada while blessed St. Carney is trying to unite the country. Imagine what they would be saying about her if she outright endorsed separation.
My gut hasn’t failed me yet, and it’s telling me that the movement is weakening. It’s going to take some kind of policy catalyst from the feds designed to put Alberta in its place to fire up the engine again, and the feelers I’m getting is that the feds are scoffing at Alberta right now. My hope is that Albertans reclaim Alberta, and tells the feds to FOAD, but my hopes have been dashed so many times over the past 10 years, that I am not too terribly optimistic that will actually happen.

      1. The next six months will tell the tale. Smith has read the situation accurately. What the “journalists” back east say is of zero importance.

    2. Nenshi has outlived his myth. The media can only cover for a fraud for a certain amount of time. I always laugh when the brain dead (looks at you) whine about referendums yet often will miss the fact that one of the best performing democracies in the world has MANY referendums. That is true democracy…..that country is Switzerland. Now go play with your toys.

  9. Liberals have worked for decades to make “Canadian” and “Liberal party supporter” mean the same thing. So far it has worked for them but if they take this approach under Carney it will lead to the separation of western Canada because people will just take it literally and say “no deal.”

As they should have done in 1982.

  10. In the broadcast age, that hideous fat M’fer can’t get elected. Blubber Dougie managed it, but compared to Nenshi, he’s Ryan Reynolds.

    1. Yet. I think you’re right, but Liberals will liberal, and it will probably be in my lifetime.

    2. This is the correct take and it’s the fault of the separatists and the broader political right for sucking. Step 1: build an entirely new political right that is actually good.

      1. And you and your ilk also said Brexit wouldn’t happen, Russia is collapsing, Russia is an existential threat to European territorial integrity but their military is also joke, racism is bad but flooding your country with racist muslims is a great idea, China is on the verge of collapse but is also so strong economically that it will destroy America in a trade war, Israel will mop the floor with Iran but Iran has the power to wipe the whole Middle East clean, and so on.

So why exactly should anyone here listen to you or take you seriously?

      2. You’re idea of “political right that is good” is something to the left of Mao.
You can keep your ideas to yourself, thank you very much.

    3. Read “The Revenge of the Tipping Point”. It only takes 30% to achieve massive change. Think same sex marriage.

      1. That debate back in the early to mid 2000’s was what started the boulder rolling down the hill for Canada.
The liebs were so impressed with themselves and how easy it was to sway public opinion, castigating opposing views as social pariahs, that they’ve implemented the same psy-op tactics to get kanuckistanians to swallow more of their communist agenda, culminating with the policies reacting to covid with lockdowns and imposed vaccine mandates.
… and this is only the beginning. If Alberta doesn’t separate from this sinking ship, we will all go down together, and wake up to something that we do not recognize anymore. Already, this country has turned into something unrecognizable, yet we continue to journey down this rabbit hole.

    4. Perhaps not at the minute…..but in six months if we discover that Carney’s lunatic leftist green wife has her hand on the controls, that will change in a heartbeat. Don’t forget that Ukraine unilaterally separated from the Soviet Union because they decided they would not be dictated to by far away Moscow any longer.

  11. I watched this live and came away with three things:

    1. Alberta has given Ottawa a “To Do” list
    2. Any move away from the status quo will be a long extended process involving committees and special envoys. As they say, “Words are air.”
    3. The govt. of Alberta will not initiate a referendum vote on separation in the 2026 elections. But, Smith made a point to assure that should the people secure enough signatures to add the referendum vote, she wouldn’t stand in the way. (I believe I saw a bit of a smile when she said that).

    1. Agreed. A politician’s response. “I don’t agree with this action, but if you force this parade then I will lead it.” Seemingly a win-win for her.

Note- autocorrect made a material change in my original post.

  12. “There isn’t enough appetite in AB for separation .”Likely true at the moment. However, I remember just a short time ago,the Liberals were going to be wiped out and PP would be PM. Give Carney a little rope and I think he will hang himself. Everything they have done so far was designed to minimize scrutiny. They are determined to go forward with their agenda.

    1. The powers that be will not let that happen. Carny is their boy, and like Australia, Canada will two-step it’s way into global tyranny.

    1. If there’s anyone who is as close as can be to someone leading this parade, it’s Jeffery Rath.
Eternally optimistic… I just hope the feds don’t freeze his bank accounts.
Right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if the feds have a couple of details monitoring his social media accounts.
This is why I do not subscribe to X, (formally twitter), farcebook, Tik-Tok, Linked-in, or any of the well-known social media platforms.
Someone could find themselves getting into a lot of trouble if they say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Look at what’s happening in GB. This is Canaduh’s future.

  13. She will succeed because her plan is do this or this is what will happen.
Ottawa’s plan is rag the puck until this blows over and gas light anyone that takes Alberta’s side, which doesn’t address the problems and makes it obvious not just here but everywhere else…… that includes DC.

  14. Liberal, Green and NDP combined to get 34.7% of the vote in Alberta in the 2025 Federal Election.
Add in all the regular “middle-of-the-road” people who voted Conservative and none of these referendum ideas has a chance in hell of succeeding.

Smith is calling the separatists’ bluff to shut-up the Take Back Alberta people in her party’s machinery.

    1. Yet polling on the issue already has 40%+ support without any fanning of the flames. Don’t need that 1/3 as they are far left communists and will undermine wherever they find themselves anyways. Alberta will be getting 50%+ by next year. Personally, I think 60% is really needed to take any sort of action.

  15. Remember justin said that canada is a ‘post national state.’ ‘Canada’ no longer exist. If we were united country, each province will help another to achieve one common goal. Canada. Instead, the liberals created animosity among provinces to attack each other. No stability anywhere just anger, leaving our once canada vunerable to foreign entities like china, radicals to take over.

  16. I have no more say in Alberta’s future but in the 21 election I voted Maverick. Not mentioned is the PMO’s report predicting a crash by 2040 – 15 years from now. Alberta/Sask and BC outside Vancouver has the right and the duty to protect themselves.
As for separation levels at *only* 30% now, count on Liberal blundering escalating that rapidly. Guilbeault being reinstated as Environment Minister, a reaffirmation of the Net Zero by 2040, EVs, keep it in the ground legislation including blocking pipelines, and ’emissions’ control ‘ which is thinly disguised production reduction – Count on the Eco activist Carney to be separation’s biggest booster.
    Pass the popcorn

    1. Actually, Alberta wouldn’t have to become a State. Alberta has the same population roughly as Finland, Denmark or Norway. Alberta GDP per capita is much higher than Finland and Denmark and at par with Norway. Alberta could become a stand alone nation…with connections to the U.S. similar to Puerto Rico. I’m sure the U.S. would be happy to take over Cold Lake as an airbase much like they did in Germany after WWII. And just THINK what Alberta could do not having to pay federal taxes to be distributed to Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

  17. Even if Carney gave Alberta 12 senators to represent them, it would mean nothing since Carney gets to appoint them.

Even if Carney said infrastructure and nation building is important, he refused to scrap C-69 or C-48, and has never once said pipelines will be built.

Even if Carney gave Alberta more MPs to represent them, the gerrymandering by Liberal Elections Canada, would negate any gains in seats.

Ottawa is not going to let go of their meal ticket, surrender any control, or even accept any of Smith’s conditions. They believe themselves immune. Alberta has to have the vote, and hope for a 50%+ before Canada will even budge.
