With the talk of secession since Monday it is of course inevitable that everyone is going want to have a say. What is also inevitable is that many of the opinions expressed will be ill informed.
You would think with treaty acknowledgements being in vogue that there would also be an effort to teach what is written in the treaties, but there isn’t. So let’s do it here.
Please take the time to read a few treaties in their entirety as they also list what First Nations receive in exchange for the peaceful surrender of territory; you see there are no limits on education or healthcare. Also remember that while seemingly well intentioned, the government of Canada did not serve the First Nations well. In some cases the provinces were even worse.
Another very interesting treaty is the Jay Treaty of 1794 that permits indigenous people to move freely across North America, living, working or going to school where they chose with all the rights of their chosen country, state or province, with the exception of voting rights which are reserved solely for citizens.

It’s time to LEAVE Canada!
I’ve worked with the First Nation People and they would be much better off in a free and Strong Saskatchewan!
Danielle Smith is on the right Tract— we in Saskatchewan must follow their Bill 54! (Sovereignty—–Referendum)
I agree, they should move all those Mohaws to Saskatchewan! (this is humour, I in no way supports deportation like the Brits did to the Acadians, etc etc)
Can someone please apply yellow highlighter to Treaty 6 for these clearly sight impaired Chiefs. Thank you.
Oh, they’re impaired all right.
First Nations can’t read; … reading is so colonial.
That’s not all, if I remember correctly, this is the band that had to hire WHITE MEN to teach hunting and trapping skills to the native yoots..
Things are not going well for canada under Carney, imo.

Isn’t there something about “keeping the King’s peace” or some such? Given the massive numbers of crimes and consequently incarcerated individuals, I would argue that has not been met and declare them null and void.
A few years ago, we had a guy (can’t remember his name) who gave us a quick course on First Nations treaties. He was an expert who had been recognized by the Supreme Court in First Nations cases. One story he told was that a band had claimed the treaty gave them the right to complete free healthcare for all time (of course at the time of the signing of the treaty there was no such thing as Canadian healthcare)….but what the treaty ACTUALLY said was that each band member would receive a medicine bag with a some “healing” plants. I always laugh when “First Nations” make a claim of some kind without them having had a written language and instead rely on nonsensical babble from “elders” who make it up as they go.
We have more than paid for the land relinquished, PERIOD. It is time for the First Nations to grow up and become contributing and functional adults, not subsidized children. The same could be said for a lot of immigrants. Pay your own way, regardless of nationality and pigmentation. It is called personal responsibility and it is a conservative cultural value, lest some not recognize it.
Land acknowledgment: “The aboriginal band/nation that claimed to own this land without proof sold it to the Crown as per treaty #xxx. This is now Crown land. Henceforth, there wil be no smoking, banging of drums or incoherent wailing. His Majesty thanks His loyal subjects for their compliance.”
there’s a long list of failed projects on the Sturgeon Lake and millions of $ spent in an effort to make them(chiefs and councils) happy, all for nothing. Chief Sunshine is blowing smoke. the key to prosperity is and always has been( in civilized countries with a Judeo-Christian basis), is PRIVATE PROPERTY, and until the Indian Act is destroyed and rebuilt with that principle in mind, we will never see the end of this BS.
The same could be said of too many Canadian citizens.
Every treaty gave up everything forever. Preference was given to whitey’s settlement and listed and unlisted economic activities. A residual was Indians could hunt on land not used for any other activity. This residual has been interpreted by moron judges as being superior to listed and unlisted industries that were given clear preference. Not only that, whitey was a conqueror with age old rights of conquest.
Who created the Indian Act ? Anyone please……….. the liberals have been in power for two thirds since confederation.
And does anyone notice that the liberal globalists are boxing us in exactly like they did to the Indians
It was passed into law in 1876 by Canada’s second Prime Minister, Alexander Mackenzie. It replaced the Gradual Civilization Act and the Gradual Enfranchisement Act.
Why bother? You really think some arcane legal argument is going to resolve any of this?
Perhaps it might be best that the people that sign the front of the cheque, and not the back of the cheque, have a say.
Upper and Lower Canada have spoken. They have said that they want to have a welfare state with ever decreasing rights afforded to its citizens. For some reason, they feel that their manufacturing base, a base which only exists due to heavy subsidy (said subsidy be provided by a decreasing productive base and industries that are being targeted for destruction), will see them through. That somehow Europe, China or Japan will want to start buying their manufactured goods even though those places can source those manufactured goods domestically or from much cheaper sources.
The only thing the world wants from canaduh is natural resources. Now the Greatest Economist Ever (TM) will be destroying that part of our economy. Big Screen TVs start to become very expensive when purchased with printed, and therefore, inflated currency.
Don’t worry our First Nations Friends, WE WILL HONOUR the treaties. You’ll still get all the benefits but it will be from a stable economy.
How’s that potable water going for you?
This is an easy layup combined with a slam dunk for Danielle Smith.
Fine, when you separate you can remain as wards of what’s left of Canada, your entire “nation” a national border, which you will have to cross, customs included of course, for your soirees to Edmonton and other AB environs.
You can contact them for payoffs and services, given you want no part of the new nation of Alberta.
Of course, a tax will have to be imposed on what’s left of Canada for all this inconvenience.
If you are unhappy living on sovereign Alberta land, you are free to apply for citizenship elsewhere.
Biggest problem the chiefs see is a potential end to their grift and power over their people. Reserves are essentially a microsom to what Carnage has planned for the rest of us.
^^^ + 100
Not incidently, reservations are also the template for Islamic colonization of modern North America.
The Frontier Center For Public Policy has a lot of good articles about this topic. How many indigenous children were saved from poor health and family situations by the schools? How many indigenous parents wanted their children educated? 200,000 indigenous children attended day schools- on reserve. Those who resided came from very remote locations. Did “we” do well for the 100,000 who never attended any school? Whom did the “sixties scoop” actually scoop? Those from neglectful homes? We have 2 adopted cousins from that time period. When they joined the family they would protect their plates so no one could take their food. What does that say? Yes many things were done wrong. But many children also survived hunger and abuse because of schools and “scoops”? Thomson Highway is a good example- his father wanted his children to get a good education. Said the years at a residential school were the best years of his life.
Natives: The white man screwed us over! All other Canadian ethnicities: The Crown screwed you over, just like us. Now take a number and line up.
That’s true we are all in the same boat.
They let their culture slide and so did we.
Have a good friend that was “scooped” from her classroom. Taken away from her family that was living in a shack far from the school. Her indigenous mom had deserted the family and dad ran a trap line trying to raise 4 kids. She went to a family in Saskatchewan that she loves dearly and reconnected with dad after many years. The way it was done was horrible for a little girl but she’s grateful for the rescue.
“
Popularity and truth have always struggled with each other.”
“To have and to hold the same to Her Majesty the Queen and Her successors forever.”
Sounds kida final to me.
May I suggest the US-Canada border agents all brush-up on the Jay Treaty. Because it is what allows my 1/2 FN son in law to travel freely between Canada and the US. Yet every time we travel … he is hassled and supervisors are called, and he is unnecessarily delayed. Perhaps it’s because he isn’t wearing moccasins and a feather, and presents as a paleface. But his FN status renders the border completely irrelevant to him.
Pssst … FN TDS’ers … you’re already AMERICANS just as much as you’re CANADIANS … you’re FREE to inhabit BOTH SIDES of the white mans line in the sand.
But you already knew this.
I was born here, and my family for over 450 years. Can’t I be aboriginal too?
I’d totally vote for YOUR fweedom … fweedom …
I have found that every treaty signed in Canada is available ‘on-line’ and details the entire agreement(s)
The reality is nothing like the Indians imagine the supposed treaties that live only in their imagination and the sniveling of some activist judges.
Can you imagine the howls of indignation if they bands were actually paid the sums agreed to by the participants and their lineage.
You mean like “Five bullets and a blanket” kind of thing?
FN’s want to nullify their 1700’s land grants to the Crown. Any attempts to assert the Crown’s land titles today are portrayed as neocolonialism, or environmental rape, or child murder by the chosen villain, whitey.
If this ploy works to negate a valid, Common Law land grant, then noone’s title to land in North America is safe.
Set fire to the treaties, tear them up right in front of the chiefs sitting in their Cadillac Escalades.
Our “charter of rights and freedoms” means squat, why should their treaties be any different?
