  1. A tariff by any other name.
… but … OrangemanBAD!!!! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh mommmmmaaaaaaaaaa

    1. The US has something called the Farm Bill that funds subsidies to farmers. Why should Canadian farmers compete with subsidized agg products? Why should US taxpayers subsidize exports to Canada? Get rid of the marketing boards and set a tariff equivalent to US government supports. OR get rid of the boards and ban crossborder trading of the disputed products.
Same with lumber. Stumpage is a reasonable method of calculating wood extracted from Crown Land. The US regards it as a subsidy. US lumber is usually on private land but is subject to stringent rules from the US EPA making US lumber more expensive. The tariffs the US imposes is a protectionist tax on competitors while framing Canada as being protectionist – interesting.
And all this proceeded Trump so we can mark it up to ongoing US protectionism..

        1. How? I agree that it should be terminated immediately. The issue is how because it’s a federal statute.

          1. “…the quota system regulated by the Egg Farmers of Alberta”
            Sounds provincial to me.

          2. ” The issue is how because it’s a federal statute.”

Yes, and one that all the major party leaders wholeheartedly support.

  2. Things like this is the reason concertina wire and .308’s were made. If this farmer and his tribe were goat humping brown guys all ready to go allah snack bar there’d be no story.

  3. How are drug cartels different from egg cartels? Not a damned bit of difference except techniques. If you cross any cartel, they will try to destroy you, either by politically legal means or by any means necessary.

Leave the egg farmer alone, political bastards! This is not about safety but control and tyranny.

  4. Couldn’t each family member be a farmer with 300 hens? Why would they even need to live on the farm? I guess it depends how the law is written. A farmer has no need to own land.

    1. Schmidt in Ontario tried to get around the dairy cartel’s rules by selling shares in cows and then he was hired by the cow owners to milk their cows for them. I think the cow owners wanted raw milk. Provincial government went hard against him. Process is punishment.

  5. I still think laws like this are easily circumvented….In this case I’d transfer ownership of blocs of 299 hens to relatives, and sign an agreement that he will care for them and collect eggs in exchange for them turning the vast majority of eggs over to him.

Additionally, I don’t think your “egg cartel” has any intention of “applying MAID” on the hens. I think they wish to covertly turn them over to those cartel members in good standing.

  6. Any update on the ostrich situation in BC?
    Ridiculous government intervention!!!

  7. “Also, he said the judge warned him not to get media involved” – another Liberal racist Party judge threatening citizens, that’s even more egregious. The authoritarians in this government want absolute power over information the public is allowed to hear, that’s fascist. Judge needs to be removed.

    1. exactly. sooooooooo judgey judge gets to issue edicts from on high on an activity that normally happens 100s times somewhere every day?
‘dont get uppity with me mister lm corrupted by power you doan know whut lm capable ovvvvv’.

      has to be a liberal

  8. not a fan of supply management in the first place, but limiting a non- member to 300 laying hens seems to be a reasonable compromise. Sorry about your luck Henk, but thems the rules.
