Peter Menzies- Media meltdown leaves industry red-faced and very unlikely to be forgiven for its sins and its subsidies
A week before we know the winner of the election, a debate debacle ensures the nation’s news organizations will be big losers when it comes to retaining what remained of the public’s faith in them

Why are any Liberal government funded MSM allowed at the debates when their very existence depends on keeping the Liberals who fund them with our tax dollars in power?
The Liberal funded MSM argue that they should have a monopoly, the reality is that they should be banned entirely.
As usual they have it completely backwards.
The independent media is asking Carney the questions the Liberal government funded media will not ask. Independent media is doing the investigative journalism on Liberal Party corruption that the Liberal government funded media will not do. Some of the anger towards independent journalists has to be due to the government funded journalists being embarrassed about their failure to speak truth to power and hold elected officials to account because they can’t bite the hand that feeds them.
Anyway, it’s comical in a way. Journalists portray themselves as fearless warriors who will go into dangerous battlefields and dark alleys to pursue their stories. In reality, they are afraid of ezra levant and other independent journalists because those journalists might attack their political sugar daddy with uncomfortable questions and hurtie words.
Menzies is pathetic. He outs himself here as a media snob.
He looks down his nose at Rebel, TN, PM, etc, because they aren’t ‘real’ media.
The cognitive dissonance is strong. They would not exist if we truly had a real, unbiased, informative media industry. But we don’t, not even close, it’s not just the TV medium, it’s radio and it’s print media, overwhelmingly left wing Liberal.
Unifor ensures that compliance is mandatory.
A simple solution. Abolish the debate. It’s a farce. Cheap theater.
Yes, the debates are farcical, but a good performance by a leader can make the difference. If we had a debate with just the two major parties, questioned by various media, both msm and left/right types, we might actually get some serious replies. Don’t forget the moment Quebec Liberal running for the PCC,Brian Mulroney, destroyed Ontario Liberal John Turner at the debate.
This one should have been Polievre versus Carney.
When the media becomes the story, you have lost all impartiality. The Liberal Pravda lost theirs a long time ago. The smug and condescending arrogance has turned real thinking Canadians, off. Plus the waste of taxpayers money for bonuses is Pathetic.
Liquidate all assets and repurpose all building for the homeless.
It was interesting to learn that Ezra Levant knows both Danielle Smith and Naheed NenshI from their University days together. Yet, I don’t recall hearing anything, good, bad or indifferent, from Ezra on the politics of either of them. What have I missed?
I think they (Ezra and Nenshi) “dislike” each other, they had some public words back when Nenshi was running for Mayor here… it isn’t just politics that divides those two, but religion as well. I’d expect Ezra to aim directly at Nenshi in the next provincial election.
Ezra had a couple of interviews of Premier Smith this year near to the US inauguration time and just prior to the tariffs beginning, I think the second one was 18 minutes? That’s all the time she had, and they appear to get along well, not that their politics are completely aligned. There are a few other times they’ve had on camera interviews as well.
Thank you very much. I don’t know how I missed those interactions
Video of those interviews were only on the Rebel News YouTube channel as far as I know. The MSM would never promote or mention anything Rebel News does.
it occurs to me, with the technology of virtually instant access to information, the concerted effort to manage ie manipulate arises as well. new ways of communication are censored. new avenues for the facts of a situation become corrupted.
the truth really becomes an esoteric thing. ‘science’ which was the forefront of the enlightenment is now in some circles a lap dog.
upside down topsy turvy backwards inside out. whatever happened to the notion with time things are supposed to get better? learning from mistakes instead of inventing new ones? when did that stop? was it 1968 when turdeau 1.0 started his reign of terror?
Carnage will win easily and Canada will become a Chinese proxy state like NK.
Should I brush up on my Cantonese or Mandarin?
Cantonese died when Hong Kong reverted back to the mainland. I’d go with Mandarin along with conversational Arabic.
I suggest Spanish. Speaking English and Spanish allows you to relocate anywhere in North America, South America and most of Europe.
Ha, half of the Brexit UK is in Spain.
Spain is a pretty country. Personally, I’d like to check out Uruguay. Looks like it was settled by Mediterranean Europeans from Italy and Spain. The photographs of Montevideo look similar to what I remember in Italy, Spain and Portugal.
LC Bennett, Uruguay …

Yeah, then there is Paraguay next to Uruguay. It is less developed (more rustic) but modernizing and has an even lower tax rate. Argentina also borders those two countries and it has had a remarkable economic turnaround. Will likely visit all three.
Sometimes I’m amazed at how naive people are relative to the media. I guarantee you that “credibility” is very low on the list of most journalistic types these days. They are a coopted tool of the left. Most journalist students start out with the goal of being just that. They have no ambition to tell a fair story, report an objective view or even present anything at all that would reflect badly on their team or positively on their opponent.
Mark Carney has stated that should he win on 4/28, he will continue funding subsidies to the media. He went as far as to list a specific amount, and added that additional funds would be applied as well. Those media conglomerates see one candidate bribing them with free money. They see the other one saying “no.” Media conglomerates don’t care one whit about objective reporting and a fair media. They care about funding, bonus revenue, and advantageous political relationships. And, they don’t have credibility to lose or feelings to hurt.
Carney’s promissory statement is outright, blatant and textbook defined bribery. And, it’s perfectly legal because back in 2009 your Heritage Dept. of Government started this ball rolling and no one went out of their way try and stop it.
All media is “produced”, marketed and pushing some agenda.
The people who hyperventilate at the antics of David Menzies or Ezra Levant clearly have no knowledge of the history of journalism, and would be utterly shocked at how reporting has worked for hundreds of years. It’s an industry traditionally peopled with hard-nosed, working-class men and big personalities. It’s the current pearl-clutching that’s the anomaly: not the occasional blunt question or opinionated bombast from Levant and independent reporters like him. They’d have fit right in with the crowd at almost any other time in history.
There’s a reason that so many early comic book heroes have an alter ego in the newspaper business. These were the guys who got in everyone’s business and who showed up everywhere there was trouble. The cigar-chomping, foul-mouthed J. Jonah Jameson from the Spider Man comics is more true to the spirit of reporting than anyone who calls themselves a journalist today.
what was that Jack Lemmon flic? ‘The Front Page’.
those guys really went for the STORY. now they *are* the story.
Carl Kolchak of the Nightstalker Series. Heh.
Unfortunately, Levant missed a chance yesterday when the CP journalist was bitching about Levant’s fundraising to say “Everyone who donates to us does freely of their own will, we don’t take government money extorted from taxpayers”
