Before the Manitoba premier pulls out of US contracts, maybe he should have lined up a willing buyer? Because he really, really wants to sell power to Saskatchewan now, according to the press conference I listened to late Monday. Are we going to buy? Be sure to read his comments about neighbours paying mortgages…
Manitoba Hydro ends two US contracts, seeks to sell power to Nunavut and possibly Saskatchewan
Jim Warren once again knocks it out of the park.
Jim Warren: Manning said a vote for the Carney Liberals is a vote for Western secession. And he’s right.
I was interviewed in January at a Calgary conference by Robbie Picard. This is that interview, just published Monday:
“We need to diversify our markets. We need to get to other places.”

Canada’s LNG industry set to take flight as interest reignites in Alaska megaproject
I anticipate Canadian natural gas prices are going to go up as a result. Good for producers, great for Alberta and BC. Not so good for SaskPower, businesses and home owners who need heat.
Lol. Apparently wobbly canoe is a comedian. SK should make manitoba the same offer for the power that queerbec gives to the newfs. And then export it to the US and pocket the difference. That will will learn em.
‘succession’
dont you mean ‘secession’?
Fixed. Thanks.
Alberta and Saskatechewan, WHEN (not if) you have your separation referendum, RESTRICT the vote to those who were born in Alberta or Saskatchewan, at least 25 years ago, and have been ongoing legal tax residents ever since. Do NOT allow the Eastern scum to sabotage your future by shipping in their migrants.
Only those who helped BUILD the province, should have a say in a decision this far-reaching. End of.
I can totally see Carnage flooding both provinces with involuntary imports in the runup to any vote, and pushing for a mail-in system basically allowing a flood of bogus votes.
Not sure if restricting the vote would be constitutionally accepted. But it should be restricted.
There’s no Constitutional basis for separation of any province in any event. It’s pure realpolitik. Saskaberta can set whatever conditions they want for a vote. TROC can accept or deny the results of any such referendum at their whim. It ultimately comes down to which side is willing to roll tanks over the issue.
Agree.
I always thought it should be something along the lines of somebody that has resided in the Province a minimum of five years. Has held a valid provincial health card during that time frame or something along those lines.
I would not put it past the Greatest Economist Ever (TM) and canaduh’s single ruling party to pay a whole lot of people to get Alberta or Saskatchewan drivers licenses.
You haven’t been in a registry lately, it’s a zoo. Too late.
I try to avoid it all cost.
That’s why and Alberta or Saskatchewan Health Card. A valid holder will also have record of medical service delivered in the Province.
When I initially saw the Manitoba announcement, I wondered where the customers were. This is much worse than I expected. The cost of a line to Nunavut will never be profitable, and it’s unlikely that any line to northern Saskatchewan will be either. But Manitoba Hydro has never really cared about profitability.
More evidence why Crown Corporations must be abolished. These entities are not for generating revenue or providing quality goods and services but to push government narratives.
If Canadians vote for another LPC government, AB and SK need to leave ASAP. That will be the start of many problems and difficulties, but these will also hold many opportunities.
“Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew told a press conference in Winnipeg, “I have an order here to bring back 500 megawatts of power that we’re currently exporting to the United States of America, and I have an order here to dedicate 50 of those megawatts of power to stand up a new transmission line to Nunavut.””
So they will have to sell that 50MW to Nunavut at the same price the Americans were paying for 500MW? Good thing than Kinew can will those power lines to Nunavut into existence without having to go through any government environment studies, or construction.
It’s power to the people! There are no environmental issues. Full steam ahead, damn the cost tor-pedos.
Will Mark-Jag jump on this?
Cause Ontario is gonna get a hurt real bad in the auto sector.
First Stellantis
Soon Honda
Then GM & Ford
Production can shift stateside, death by a 1,000 cuts. Are we 6 months in Trump term yet?
Electricity interchanges with neighboring provinces and states is important for grid reliability and cost effeciencies. It is also and perhaps more important to have enough of your own baseload power production to supply your own provincial needs. Spending money to be the owners of your baseload power is better than spending a similar amount renting it from your neighbors.
If Manitoba wants to sell their excess electricity to Saskatchewan then it should at least share the cost of building the transmission lines.
When you’re Manitoba and you’re thinking about selling power to Nunavut instead of America, you’re on very shaky ground.
How about forgetting about selling electricity and find new ways to use it through manufacturing?
(insert Norm MacDonald crack whore joke)
I’m in and independence can not be soon enough. Western Independence is the first step and a big one, our future alliances will be decided later. One thing I know is that I can become American and be welcomed, I can not become Chinese.
THIS American would LOVE to annex Alberta and Sask. and add two STARS to our flag. Welcome friends.
Landlocked AB & SK have no shot at independence. It’s either as provinces or states or maybe territories.
Throw in B.C. and Manitoba and it would work. Only problem is socialists love to vote.
Landlocked Switzerland has no shot at Independence.
You clearly put no thought at all into your comment.
