3 UBC professors and a graduate student are fed up and not going to take it any more:
A group of professors and a graduate student are taking the University of British Columbia to court to stop the school from engaging in “political activity,” which they claim limits academic freedom and violates legislation requiring it to be non-political.
The petition filed in B.C. Supreme Court Monday says the school is breaching the University Act through the use of Indigenous land acknowledgements, promotion of equity and inclusion initiatives and by taking positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A section of the act requires universities to be both non-sectarian and non-political, but the group claims UBC is engaging in activities that violate the legislation.

They won’t win because the courts are just as political.
The court will rule that all those policies are politically neutral … because they are politically correct in the eyes of the court. And the plaintiffs will be ordered to $Pay$ the University’s legal costs for bringing a “politicized” frivolous lawsuit.
There is more diversity of thought in an infantry platoon than there is in the whole of academia.
Can confirm.
I was a grad student at UBC many years ago. It was an intellectual cesspool even then. Anybody even slightly to the right of Mao quickly became unpopular.
See the proper lawsuit to bring since UBC continues to claim it’s on “unceeded” land is to force the return of the land, buildings and suitable payment of back rent including interest for the crime of building on land that doesn’t belong to them.
if UBC ceased to exist, oh well.

I like it, JD. Let them put their money where their mouth is (for a change).
