  1. The grocery section in the Preston Crossing Walmart in Saskatoon is now pretty much an Indian (dot, not feather) supermarket.

    I was looking at the multiple brands of ghee and wondered aloud “What is this stuff?”

    An Indian woman in the aisle turned to me said “It’s butter.”

    “Oh,” I said – “Thanks for clarifying!”

    No idea if f she got it or not.

    1. I’m old enough to remember the Galloping Gourmet was a clarified butter enthusiast.

      I substitute it for every recipe that calls for vegetable oil. Because Butter is Better

  2. Indian goes into doctor, saying her forehead is turning white and moving down. Doctor gives a prescription.

    Week later patient come in complaining meds taste like shit. Dr says, yes, you were down a quart!

    And yes, there seems to be an influx in ‘Made in India’ foodstuffs in regular stores, in addition to the regular displays of No Name pickles, etc., Ramen noodles for $0.39, potato chips for $1.39. There is already an East Indian supermarket open and a shopping plaza being built, with the same specific theme.

    1. Here in CA we get the Hindu nan and whatnot … but it’s mainly Tortilleria Y Carniceria in every strip mall. We have become Guadalajara del Norte’

      I miss the days of shopping at The Nordic House where my Great Grandmother bought lingonberries and fresh Herring for her SIGNATURE pickled herring

    2. For the past few weeks, the nearby Safeway has been busy rearranging its shelves to bring in an “international foods” aisle. It could be to compete with the Superstore a few blocks away, which has had a section for that for years.

      Another reason might be that there are a large number of “south Asians” in my apartment complex.

  4. Probably some of those international students we’ve heard so much about. Must be getting a head start on their chosen career.
