  1. Quebec contemplatively considering how they can turn this into a few extra bucks out of Albertans.

    1. They’re cutting out the middle man. Smart move.

  2. Here’s a proposal… Each provincial government collects taxes, and remits a pittance to Ottawa to handle foreign affairs and the military, and all the rest is handled at the provincial level.

And instead of a parliament of MPs, we replace it with 2 times a year all of the provincial and territorial politicians go to Ottawa for a week each time and pass whatever federal laws are required to handle foreign affairs and the military.

  3. Well, the truth IS that in a Confederation, the federal government is not the senior government in the country. The provinces are sovereign in their borders. In a confederation, states/provinces come together creating a loose (often TEMPORARY) union for matters of political, economic or administrative convenience. Within a confederation, member states/provinces maintain their sovereignty and often appoint a weak central authority to speed up bureaucratic matters.

Time to crank up the Notwithstanding Clause and use it as often as necessary.

  4. Heh,as a beginning,whatever deals Quebec has with Ottawa?
    We are taking them too.
Then we will continue our exit.
Quebec has been faking separatism for decades, but that is no reason not to copy all their best ideas.

  5. In this association, I am reminded of the quote: Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

  6. I have admired my new Premier. Danielle Smith has come a long way since crossing the floor, leading her Wild Rose party into oblivion, and little by little, has earned my respect. She still has a way to go before she can earn my trust, though.
Case in point, this own-goal seeking an alliance with the province of Quebec.
This will pretty much feed into the narrative that Danielle Smith IS NOT a Team Canada player. Unfortunately, this will justify the liebs who say that Danielle Smith is a traitor to Canada.
She is right, of course, but timing of saying this right in the middle of an election that can tear this country apart might not have been the wisest strategy to implement right now.
She should have stayed silent about this until AFTER the election. It would have been a much more powerful statement to make if the liberals had won the election, and wouldn’t have been necessary to say at all if the Cons had won.

  7. Unfortunately Danielle Smith is too stupid to carry out any new realignment with Quebec. She will be played by Quebec like Putin toys with Trump. She’s a reasonably competent premier but is a moron when it comes to national or international politics. I will never forget the Wildrose debacle.

    1. It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.

  8. Eventually the elephant in the room will have to be dealt with.
The SCOC is going to err by insisting that individual rights are superior to a provincial government’s use of the NWSC.
Which puts the SCOC in conflict with the charter because in the preamble it states something about the supremacy of Parliament.
Which will cause the Trudeau charter to come apart at the seams.
You will get your new country.

  9. Another win/win for Danielle;
    a) if Quebec agrees to an alliance, suddenly all provinces are emboldened
and much stronger when dealing with Ottawa (as per Confederation).

But Quebec cannot agree, will maneuver out of an honest agreement,
in order to remain the only liberated province,
continuing their manipulation of Ottawa against other provinces.

ie, Quebec is the source of Liberal Party divisive policies and
history shows they can’t live without each other.

    b) if Quebec doesn’t agree to an alliance,
Danielle is one step closer to Independence Day.
