In a case underscoring the growing infiltration of U.S. military ranks by China’s intelligence networks and troubling trends involving the recruitment of first-generation Chinese Americans, federal prosecutors announced indictments Thursday against three soldiers—two active-duty and one former—for allegedly selling highly classified U.S. military secrets to buyers in China.
The Justice Department unsealed indictments alleging that Jian Zhao, a supply sergeant with oversight of $55 million in Army materials in Washington state, led an espionage scheme involving the sale of top-secret U.S. military intelligence to individuals in China, including explosive information on U.S. military readiness to fight a war against China. Much of the case appears to center on Beijing’s plans to take Taiwan by force—a concern of growing urgency for leaders in Washington, Taipei, and Tokyo—and how U.S.-led forces would respond, including what weapons systems and joint-command structures could be brought to bear against China’s strategy to surround Taiwan with naval vessels, bombard the island with rockets, and deploy amphibious landing forces.
Zhao is charged with conspiracy to obtain and transmit national defense information, bribery of a public official, and theft of government property. He allegedly sold data on High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and detailed documents concerning U.S. military readiness and exercises with an unidentified partner nation, which most likely refers to potential conflict scenarios involving Taiwan.

Chinese spying for China? Now THERE’S a new slant!!!
ISWYDT
Careful. That’s a slippery slope.

I Xi what you did there…
But Magic Dirt is supposed to prevent this.
Why wouldn’t China send spies to immigrate and join the military to uncover secrets? Higher level security should involve being born locally.
“Much of the case appears to center on Beijing’s plans to take Taiwan by force – a concern of growing urgency for leaders in Washington…”
Why is the US defending Taiwan?
It’s a legacy commitment. Taiwan is the refuge of the non-communist Chinese military forces and political elements, the Nationalists, the U.S.A. supported against the Japanese in WWII. When the Japanese were defeated the Communists and anti-communists resumed their civil war, which the former won. With China communist, the U.S.A. has seen Taiwan as a necessary counter.
Because they outsourced all their integrated circuit manufacturing and without Taiwan to provide them, and other electronic components they face economic collapse is one reason. Another reason is that the US used to pride themselves as being a source for good in the world and they took pride in helping others resist evil. Another reason is it’s a good idea to have allies in other parts of the world when you want to be a global hegemon.
The US should recognize a single unified China, under the control of the Taiwan regime.
The first thing that pops into my mind every time I read these type stories involving China is how it is indicative of the failure of Communism. When you remove competition, meritocracy, and categorize your subjects, you lose innovation. There is no motivation to achieve, explore and apply creativity. Everyone has their set duty without the opportunity to take it “one step beyond.” And, in the rare occurrence where someone does achieve something considered to be a marvel or cutting edge, all credit goes to superiors and the State.
It’s why the Chinese depend so heavily on stealing from the West. It’s rare when a month goes by where some Chinese-American scientist in the Department of Energy doesn’t come under investigation. I’m sure most of them aren’t even publicized. China’s current space program is primarily built on the information that Bill Clinton allowed them to take.
Many Asian nations hold theft in high regard and consider it an acceptable tactical endeavor. One of liberal’s greatest insanities is believing that all cultures are morally identical.
China isn’t communist, its fascist.
European immigrants seemed to assimilate into Canada / US and became loyal citizens, pledging allegiance to their new country and leaving the old behind.
We don’t see the same type of mindset from immigrants from the Middle East or Asia. Their first loyalty seems to always be the motherland.
The only people who get out of China are people the Chinese state lets leave, so there’s a good chance any overseas Chinese is loyal to China, if for no other reason than any members of their family who didn’t get out are now hostages of the Chinese state.
Odious Herodias, Christianity and a Protestant work ethic may have helped.
(GYM/GRM, or whatever, save yourself some typing and don’t bother with your Bible pounder crap. We’ve heard it all before. Blah, blah, blah.)
Can’t wait for that firing squad execution to be televised.
Yup. That would work.
Haven’t Chicoms figure out yet that when they invade Taiwan, Trump will demand Taiwan gives him natural resources and then stop all military aid for the killing to stop?
I think they should do a bit more than dock his pay…

“What difference at this point does it make?” Gen. Milley has already sworn that he would give the ChiComs advance warning of any military actions taken against them by our unhinged POTUS.
Yes. Gen. Milley should be in the military stockade … right along with these spies. Hmmmm … ? Biden pardoned him, didn’t he?
