          1. GYM, not that I disagree with you regarding Catholic leadership. I myself cited the USCCB’s corruption, but really… does EVERY ISSUE with you have to center around religion?
            The Catholic Church leadership may be corrupt, but there are other factors contributing to corruption in our government, and society. Just look at the USAID manifest to get an idea of the real goings on in government. It’s not just the religious leadership that’s causing problems. In my opinion, the non-religious factions of our society are just as corrupt, and just as guilty of the criminality in our government as the religious folks are. More so, in fact.
            I’ll cite you one example: You constantly remind us of the pedophile activities of Catholic Priests, when in fact, priests are guilty in less than one percent of all child abuse cases, where public school teachers comprise far more instances of this kind of mischief. Why are you not attacking them?

  16. In the UK there are lots more corner variety stores, small money transfer shops, and Turkish barbers, the first and last of which discourage any shoppers. Yes, they all seem to be fronts for money laundering.

    Here in Toronto, I was wondering why so many variety stores owned for many years by Koreans or Chinese are now being staffed by South Asians or Middle Easterners. When one owner put up a sign that it would soon be under new management, I asked him what was happening and he said because he was offered such an unbelievably good offer, he sold the business (I’m think the new owners are Bangladeshi, but possibly could be Pakistani or Afghans) and was going back to Korea to retire.

    There are also a couple of nail salons that I’ve seen that never seem to be open on weekdays, yet never go out of business after years of being mostly dark.
